To my understanding volunteers are under the control of you the player rather than the AI. In my opinion thats a rather good addition and i am highly looking forward to it. On the other hand isnt that a bit inaccurate? What i mean is that shouldnt volunteers fall under the receiving nations military command rather than the sender nations command? Im all for the controlling of your volunteer units. At the same time Id also like to see however an option to let the AI use them as they see fit, or to be able to see the receiving nations battle plans so you can position the troops accordingly. Now some may say that ''just send an expeditionary unit so you dont have to control them'', but arent expeditionary units only for nations allied and in a war with each other? Me personally id like both the option to control your volunteers and also give the AI control of them if you so choose. So if you let the AI control them you would also be able to view their movements/battles/casualties and area FOW. Or is there just an attach division to feature where they will follow friendly units?

Continuing on about volunteers(posting here so i dont create a new thread) I noticed on an image where your volunteers can not be recalled back home at anytime unless you are at war. Personally its not a big deal, but the nation should be able to call their volunteers back after certain pre-requisites are met and/or a certain period of time has gone by Example: They have been deployed for 1-2 years, been in X amount of engagements, lost X amount of troops. I am not up to date on the game so im not sure if things have changed.

I think the devs went for "rule of fun" rather than realism. Furthermore I think many volunteers weren't sponsored by their home country but went on their own accord - HoI 4 volunteers are more like a state-funded expeditionary force.

For sure i do like how we can control them, but it wouldn't hurt by adding the option to give AI control. Yea theres a small exception regarding volunteers being sponsored by their home country as far as i know. The Blue Division for example was set up with the use of recruiting drives by the government of Spain so wouldnt that count as being sponsored by their home country?

It's fairly accurate. Taking the SCW, neither Soviet or German "volunteers" (which the kind of situations the mechanic is for) were taking orders from the Spanish.
I guess its only in certain circumstances. I use the Blue division as a prime example because they fell under the Wehrmacht command structure rather than the Spanish Army command.

In game terms the blue division was not even spanish, since it was trained and equipped by germany, and even had some parts of the division staffed by germans.

As far as the DD explains, the volunteers mechanics is there to get you something to do in the early years, as well as earn experience. For giving AI control there is the "Sending Expeditionary" option for allies in war.

Thats understandable. On a rather smaller note I was hoping for events and such to be able to receive historical units etc. For instance im certain in one of the dev play throughs when playing as Germany there was an event regarding the SCW where im assuming the options were to lend support or not thus enabling the possible creation of the Condor Legion if they chose to lend support.

Volunteers can only be sent during peacetime to neutral countries and are under your direct controll. Your soilders are basicly going there "on their own behave" and support their side without (officialy) representating your interests. It is basicly a way to get involved without actually getting involved if you know what i mean.

Expeditionaries can only be sent to allies and are under their controll. This is an much more aggressive move of course.
