The Coat of Arms of Galicia-Volhynia is a picture of the actual coat of arms on a white background. This causes the COA in-game to be a shield within a shield.

Simply making the background red already gives something like the actual COA.

Maybe the cross can be made a bit bigger to make it look more like the actual COA.

Problem is that is not an actual COA of Galicia-Volhynia. It is a coat of Volhynian principality.

The real COA of Galicia-Volhynia is the golden lion on blue shield:

Or for a flag:

It is not a simple failure of the background, but a plain wrong COA in this case. The COA that is now could be a COA for Volhynia if it was a separate tag, but definitely not for a tag that should represent a kingdom of Galicia-Volhynia that ceased to exist a century before the games start date, with a long war for the succession for it's lands between the neighbors.

You know, Lwow is also outside of Lwow province which is awful. Plain wrong COA isn't the worst part about the region issues.

While we're talking about Lwow, they should really fix the spelling on that province. If they're using the Polish name, it should be spelled with an "ó" so "Lwów". Right now, the "ó" is only present when controlled by a Polish nation for some reason. Same thing with Tarnow and Krakow (though the latter makes sense since it's the official English spelling of that city but for the other 2, the "ó" should definitely be there).

Probably because Polish names are dynamic, not necessarily native to Polish provinces... including the "ó". No idea why it is not the case for Kraków for example.
In case of Lwow it can be at least explained by being Ruthenian cultured, which usually means that you use Eastern Slavic names aka Russian ones as it is currently set. Although it should be Lvov in that case.
I am not even sure if all names are correct and contain "ó" where needed even when controlled by Poland.

But it is a matter of separate topic, the issue about tags COA is plain obvious. I doubt there will be a separate Volhynia tag with COA that currently Galicia-Volhynia has, so at least Galicia-Volhynia COA should be replaced to a proper one.

Yea, both default and dynamic names for Poland and Polish culture haven't been updated in ages, even in the Polish update, which only added more provinces without correcting anything in the already existing ones.

Yea, that's true. I honestly wouldn't mind if it was called "Lvov" by default and "Lwów" when held by Poland, I just want to get rid of the "Lwow" spelling. The entire Ruthenia could use a province naming update as it's currently a gigantic mess. I might make a proper thread about that in the future...

Yea, you're right. Maybe Galicia-Volhynia was originally called Volhynia before release and the devs changed the name while forgetting to change the CoA. Either way I agree it should be changed, especially since we've got Galicia-Volhynia in CK2 and it uses the proper CoA there iirc.

I think maybe the reason might've been because at the time they possibly thought there were too many flags with lions on them in the game and it wouldn't be distinct enough or something. But then again there are tons of them with crosses too, and even multiple countries that have the same flag just with a slightly different shade of colour (I'm looking at you Lübeck, Lucca, and Imerina) so that hardly seems like a valid reason to use such inaccurate arms for Galicia-Volhynia.

Right now Red Ruthenia has all wrong provinces for example, along with city positions. It just needs another rework.
I am trying to use historical map for this and overlaying it, but it shows huge difference on such crude pic:
H1Vp6hP_d.jpg

Main issue is about Galician part of Carpathia and provinces there. It was somehow shrinked or done in a weird way, result in a whole region looking odd.
Perhaps, like in thread about European rivers was stated, they use different projection?
And I agree about Lwow.

I think it is a legacy issue. After all, it is a tag that is not normally alive and it is expectable that they aren't often touched at all. Hopefully it will get fixed.
I also wonder if Volhynia can become a separate tag since G-V may need more fixes. Besides, their tag is VOL already...

I think maybe the reason might've been because at the time they possibly thought there were too many flags with lions on them in the game and it wouldn't be distinct enough or something.
It is a tag that is not alive during a game start.
Besides, it is the only tag with lion east to HRE in Europe...
