Vladimir's Second Choice

Jumping back into CK3 after not playing for a while I'm going for the Vladimir's Second Choice achievement.

I am on my third ruler in 950 AD and I've conquered most of the Empire of Rus and have the Emperor Title. I see the suggestion is to convert to Qarmatianism because of Mendicants and Fundamentalism and it will take a while to convert all those provinces.

If I convert now it looks like almost all of my vassals will convert with me. OTOH my current ruler is 54 and his genius and only son is 11...so if I wait another 5-10 years I'll get a better ruler to deal with the new threat of Norse invaders...but he won't have the long reign bonus either.

Thoughts?

real varangian bois snipe a couple islamic holy sites and become caliph of their own islamic offshoot. anything else and you might as well be a weak and effeminate greek

nah though jokes aside if your vassals all like you enough to convert along with you, thats probably going to keep the realm relatively stable for when your heir takes over. trying to convert with a new ruler is a good way to get dogpiled with civil wars by angry heathens. wrt the norse adventures, it kind of doesnt matter if you do it now or later, its still going to be p much the same fight (and after you flip youll probably have some secondary wife slots to grab a few alliances and avoid being overwhelmed - if you die and the alliance invalidates mid-war, they still have to help you out because they already agreed, so its a win-win really)

I'd have to agree with Tilly, if most of the realm is onboard, you're better off doing it now rather than later.

Also, on a side note, being Qarmatian actually fits with the idea of being a Viking. The Qarmatians were infamous raiders who sacked Mecca and stole the Black Stone. Second best religion would be Almohadism since it's still Fundamentalist for the conversion speed but has the Warmonger trait, meaning your vassals and the peasantry will actually like you *more* for constantly going to war. It's also Male Dominated unlike Qarmatianism, which means you don't have to worry about daughters mucking up your succession.

Ok, I converted to Qarmatian and went and conquered all of the Russian Empire PLUS all of the Kingdom of Galicia-Volhynia and converted all the lands to Qarmatian. I started as Rurik and I've been playing as his descendants since then.

And...the achievement hasn't triggered. The requirements of the achievement according to the wiki are

Has North Germanic heritage or Norman or Russian culture

Is Muslim

All counties de jure part of Empire of Russia are Muslim

My save game says Ironman Enabled and Achievements are available

I am Muslim, I am Norse which has North Germanic heritage, and all my de jure counties are Muslim. So....why didn't the achievement trigger?

You should've expected this from a company where if you want the full experience, you'd have to pay around $300 worth of DLC's.. Looking at you EUIV and CK2.

I mean, every game with DLC has DLC related achievements so its not a Paradox problem. It is kind of weird that you can see a DLC achievement without the DLC, or that they are not clearly separated, though but that seems to be an issue on Steam's end, not Paradox's.

maybe. if you load the game and wait a day tick minimum, month maximum, theres a fair chance itd fire. this used to be the only way to get the end of an era achievement - you had to finish the game and then quickly, without closing the program, start a new ironman game and let time move forward a bit until it figured it out

if waiting doesnt work, you could try educating your heir in a different faith, inheriting as them, converting a single county, flipping back to muslim, and then converting that county back so it registers as you having just that exact second fufilfed the conditions. again though, this is a maybe, because theres always the chance you could get whammied with checksum nonsense

i dont think anyone here can give you a definitive answer honestly. like, all i can offer is the things you could possibly try provided the savegame loads up alright. i think itll probably be fine but i cant give you any definite assurance im afraid
