Since the next patch will forbid us from cancelling movement if it's already past 50%, I would like to make a suggestion regarding how it's implemented.

There's bound to be tons of people miscalculating the time they have available to change their minds and potentially making horrible engagements. This could be particularly devastating in multiplayer, since you can't really selfishly pause there.
My idea is to add colour coding to the system. There are a few ways I can picture this working: coloured path arrows on the terrain, which go, let's say, from green, to yellow, to orange, to red depending on how much time is left to cancel movement, maybe even gradually changing the hue rather than just flipping the colours.
Another way would be a tiny bar next to a regiment which could either fill or deplete, also serving as an indicator on how much time a player has to cancel their orders. Sorta like the treasure fleet bars in the subject window, only next to the unit sprites themselves. That might feel a bit like UI clutter, though, so I would personally prefer coloured movement arrows.
At the very least, having an icon on the unit stack window that you could hover over for a tooltip containing the date of no return would be nice.

Maybe you already have a system like this present, or perhaps you can think of a better solution. Whatever the case, I feel that having a clear indicator of how much time is left until the midway point of no return would help a lot.

+1 to this. Without any indicator and UI improvement, this change will just force the players to micromanage even more without adding anything to gameplay. In the long run it will just make outsmarting AI much more tedious but not impossible.
