Vista problems

I bought HoI anthology recently and and then installed DD and Armageddon with latest patches. The game starts normally and after the intro movie the loading screen appears but suddenly the game just crashes to desktop with some kind of error reports

I have already tried to manually uninstall the game using the stickied instructions and then installed the game by using the instructions by Coreymas that i had found from the earlier topics. I tried to play but it still kept crashing to desktop. I still tried to uninstall/install the game again but it just wont work.

Any ideas what to do next?

First off

Rename the avi folder to aviback to avoid the intro movie.

Then let us see if it still crashes.

Okay,

Try this,

1. Uninstall HOI2
2. Turn off UAC here is how http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/wind...nt-control-uac-the-easy-way-on-windows-vista/
3. Make sure you are an administrator on the machine.
4. Install HOI2DD by NOT using the installer that pops up when inserting the cd. Instead navigate to the Doomsday folder on the CD and use setup from there. Make sure that you do NOT install the game in the default folder. Install it outside of the Program Files area.
5. Run the game... see if it works. It should already be patched to 1.3.
6. If it works ... install Arma using the method in 4 above.

I followed your instructions step by step, but it still keeps crashing! I am wondering that if Paradox Interactive are aware of these vista issues and they could possibly do something about it?

It has not been determined that Vista is the problem... so i would not categorize it as such just yet.

Second i play the game just fine on my Vista machine.

Third....

Post the information that i have written below (DXDiag and Settings file) ... there might be a something there that might be causeing the problem.

Roll back your driver 1-2 times stopping at each one and trying the game.

The problem is Vista. I've never seen a worse operating systems, tons of my old(?) games does not work in Vista, even in compability mode. At the moment I am running HoI2DD on Arch Linux, works like a charm.

Yeah, Vista sucks ! First it uses about half of my computer`s RAM on idle and it has so many issues with "older" games and programs. I am really considering a getting a new operating system.

HOI2 works fine in Vista... there is a technical issue behind this specific problem with your install Perkele.

How do i know this -- I have HOI2 on my Vista machine and it works just fine.

Did you try and roll back your Video driver like i recommended?

Sorry, but i am little frustrated because i paid 30 euros for that anthology and i have tried to install that game about ten times without results, but you still have my gratitude because there are not many goodwilling persons to help people out with their technical problems.
Oh, and i tried to rollback my drivers, but no results.

EDIT: I am going try this game on my mom`s vista laptop and see if there are any issues.

Maybe HOI2 is having troubles addressing the 1 GIG of RAM and that is why it is crashing.

Pretty weird because i have never done that RAM-sharing, perhaps the computer done it by itself. Anyway, where i can adjust that RAM-sharing, on BIOS?

I doubt the RAM-sharing causes crashing because that vista laptop ran DD without problems, even dxdiag said that comp has 1gt RAM and it also shares half of it to the video card.

Things i have forgot to mention:

I`ve had pirated version of DD on this comp and i just worked perfectly, but how come that a legal version doesnt work.

First time i installed the legal version, the game loaded and i even managed to choose a nation to play and then it crashed. Normally it crashes before main menu.

I am beginning to think that you are having issues with your OS.

Also I have to say this .... talking about pirated stuff on this forum is a bannable offense.

So here is my final recommendation.

1. Reformat your drive, reinstall the OS and then try a fresh install of HOI2 without using the launcher that pops up when you insert the CD.
