My response when people say the Shadow Hawk is useless...
It's the quintessential Jack-of-all-Trades-Master-of-None 'Mech; it can do everything okay but nothing great. Which means it is the perfect 'Mech for a mercenary commander just starting out in the 3025 Periphery... :)

Exactly! There are disadvantages to having a super specialized mech that a mech unit might not want as it limits their usefullness to a specific role and misssion type.

Sometimes you just have to use your head...
From what I recall of the applicable Q&A (the Q&A where a HBS Developer mentioned that they looked forward to the challenge that putting Quads into BATTLETECH represented) the then-current "Head Butts" were being adjusted to be more of a "Shoulder Block" by Launch.

The Stock model is, you mean. You can refit that bad boy with at least three SRM6's and do some serious damage. Even the stock model does exceptional melee; they gave it a hefty +15 damage relative to others in its weight class. Shadow Hawk and Dragon both are contenders for middlweight boxing champions. Hunchback and, on the higher end, Awesome currently take the championships with their melee bonus stacked with a support hardpoint, but inflation of support hardpoints may tip those scales, we'll see.

Yes, I only meant the stock SHD-2H - with customisation, it can indeed become a specialist instead of a generalist; just removing the AC/5 and ammo gives you 9 tons to play around with (although I'm pretty sure you cannot squeeze in more than a SRM-4 in the head missile hardpoint).
I'd probably do something like this if I wanted to max out SRMs on a 2H.

Huh... you may be right. I had thought HBS battletech hardpoints were all created equal... but... I see this for the shadowhawk's head in a json file:

"location" : "head",
"weapons" : [
"chrPrfWeap_shadowhawk_head_lrm5_mh1",
"chrPrfWeap_shadowhawk_head_srm2_mh1",
"chrPrfWeap_shadowhawk_head_srm4_mh1"
]

I'm always jumping to the Shadow Hawk's defence, but IMO its problem isn't even the jack-of-all-trades thing. It's just that it does even that a bit unefficiently.

That 'mech simply does not need 12 heat sinks. Take one off, and you can for example upgrade that SRM2 into SRM4. Also makes better use of that ton of SRM ammo (25 salvos instead of 50).
