Well, no province can have more than 100 RV (a design policy ;) ).
The production efficiency that comes with others techs and inventions will increase that value for you.
So, keep 100 as the max value. ;)

But there are several provinces in the US and the Rhineland that has 150 (= 7.5)?

Luleå deserves a high value just as much as those provinces, I can assure you.

"Several"... ... only 9 regions out of 2862 has "150" as their RV... ;)

Well, look at Sweden.se

During the 18th and 19th centuries, Swedish iron and steel gained their positions in the world market due to their high quality with ores and charcoal free from phosphorus. Large and very rich deposits of iron ore with high phosphorus content remained unused right up to the 1880s, when the use of such ore for steel manufacture was made possible by the development of the Thomas and Bessemer steel processes.

Continental demand for these ores fostered large-scale exports, which accelerated after the great ore fields at Kiruna and Malmberget in Lapland were connected by rail to the ports of Narvik (Norway) and Luleå around the turn of the 20th century. More than 80% of production was exported. Still today iron ore bulks largest among Swedish exports on the basis of tonnage. Deliveries in 2002 from LKAB's Kiruna mine amounted to 13.1 Mt and from Malmberget to 7.2 Mt. Sales of the iron ore production amounted to SEK 5.2 billion (bn) in 2002.

The most important iron ore deposits are found around Kiruna and Malmberget, with proved and possible reserves of 1,600 Mt of iron ore. Sweden's biggest copper mine, Aitik, is also situated nearby.

What do you think? :)

Sorry for double-posting, but I'm still waiting for an reply...

I haven't found much more on the internet, but it seems that the iron in Norbotten and Lappland wasn't fully exploited until early 20th century, and mostly after WWI. So more than 5.0 would probably not be justifiable in this era after all. :)

I'm still waiting for your thoughts on my other changes, though.

I think we can use it... it will not cause much problems around the world after all... ;)

Thanks! :)

I'm also thinking about an event which'll change the goods in Malmö to fruit, to represent sugar beets.
I have to make alot more research on that one, though.

I was wondering and this isn't entirely limited to VIP-Scandinavia... the Danes made alot of money during the WW1 selling canned food to Germans. How to illustrate the importance on processed food products on the WM? I mean who here built canned food for exporting? Shouldn't the price for canned food be like the double of what it is now? If not then just to make those grain/fish/cattle provinces more valuable.

The problem is that most of the other factories are A LOT more profitable than canned food...
Also, to really make a difference, you should own all the raw materials needed for the factory, something that it is imposible in this case (DAN doesn't own those raw materials unless it conquers others provinces).
We are continuously improving the economic aspect of the game and we are also waiting to see the 1.04 patch with the promised corrections to the economic calculations.
So, you need only to wait to see a better scenario. :)

Wery good in my opinion. And since we produced that much iron with a rather few workers i could be justified.
The only way to simulate swedish export of iron and paper and steel is through immigration and that is not very historically correct.
The iron where and is of a good quality...

How much would you give Luleå, then? 6.0-7.5? (120-150)

You do know that the population will be multiplied by 4 in game, right?
Eg a POP of 1 (1,000 in game) represent a population of 4,000.
That would mean that with your POP file there would be 52,000 Finns in Luleå.

Also what population do you get with this file? How many percent Swedes do you have?

I'm well aware of this fact. 50+k finns is good estimate, since it was 40k finns in luleå in 1809.

file gives 12,1% swedish which is little higher than historical 11,5% but IMHO ok.

other percents

finnish 87,3%
swedish 12,1%
north german 0,3%
russian 0,6%

I'm well aware of this fact. 50+k finns is good estimate, since it was 40k finns in luleå in 1809.

file gives 12,1% swedish which is little higher than historical 11,5% but IMHO ok.

other percents

finnish 87,3%
swedish 12,1%
north german 0,3%
russian 0,6%

So, the number of Finns in Luleå increased by 10,000 in just below 30 years? I'd say 40-45k Finns in Luleå. I'll include it in my remake of the Swedish POP file (made using this site as source: http://www.tacitus.nu/historical-atlas/population/counties.htm). Interesting, there will only be about 10% Swedes in Luleå at start now :)

According to this site: http://virtual.finland.fi/netcomm/news/showarticle.asp?intNWSAID=26218

The number of Swedish-speakers would be around 14.5% in 1836.
My POP file for Finland looks like this currently, total pop 1,419,000 (very clode to the historical value according to this: http://www.tacitus.nu/historical-atlas/population/scandinavia.htm):

You have to remember that 280k may be just the old estonian province, which is just the northern part of estonia. Rest of estonia was part of Livonia. Also there is problem with Narva - City of Narva was administereted as part of St. Petersburg not as part of Estonia 1836-1920. if we add Narva area to estonian pop file then it's 80k+. (Or add 77k estonians to Luga province :)

I'll try to come up with something.

280,000 total (therefore 70K POP) sounds to me rather low from what I have read.

Toivo Raun, in Estonia And The Estonians, 2nd ed (Stanford:1991), which is one of the standard English-language histories of Estonia, gives a population of 485K in 1782, an estimate of 750K by 1860, and an 1881 total for the provinces that become modern Estonia of 881K. (Raun:50 and Raun:246). So if Raun is anywhere correct on his information, from what I am reading it sounds like 280K total for 1836 is really too low.

I'm not an expert on this part of the world, but wanted to pass what I found in Raun regarding estimates of population.

On ethnicities, he givesan 1881 breakdown (Raun:247) of :

estonian 89.8
russian 3.3
german 5.3
others 1.6

which pretty much gels with what you have.

I'll try this POP file in game, but I'd rather remove those craftsmen, they'll only add to the already terrible situation with craftsmen moving to totally unhistorical territories by day 3, lots of Lithuanians in Moscow for example. So IMO, all those unemployed craftsmen all over Russia and Austria should be converted to farmers, since they cause more problems than they solve (they don't solve anything at all IMO).

Yes, I misread. My source was for the province of Estonia. Nontheless, 280K is still more than twice than the 162K in VIP currently. 485K in 1782 and 750K by 1860 makes a population in 1836 of something around 668K. I'll modify the POP file using these numbers as a base. :)

Edit: I'm currently modding the POP file, numbers are as follows:

Total POP in Reval/Narva/Pärnau/Dorpat: 668K at game start.

89.2% Estonian
5.4% North German
3.6% Russian
1.8% Swedish

Numbers for individual provinces:

Reval 219K
Narva 175K
Pärnau 112K
Dorpat 160K

Edit2: Finished. I also learned that there has to be an empty line at the end of each POP file, otherwise the last POP won't be loaded. Something to keep in mind for VIP 0.5 :)

OK looks good. Depending on what changes may come with 1.04 might do a touch more tweaking on these in terms of pop categories, but at lest EST numbers will be more in line. Like I said it's not a part of the world I have much with - the Estonia numbers I happen to have a book on. Someday I'll try to look at some other regions and compare with works on Latvia and Ukraine in my collection. But for now beta testing is more my focus.
