British victory over the USA?

I am about to play as the UK and am planning on pursuing an American strategy. My question is, if the UK defeated the US in a Canadian border war, would any events fire granting territory to the Uk and forcing the US to surrender? I had already noticed the events giving Canada to the US, but could not find a British victory event.

British India

I'm currently playing a fantastic game as them now.

However it's 1890 and I'm getting bored. I have the worlds 3d largest economy, second largest military and greatest prestige. I've conlanized the whole of east Africa and a bit of the West. My Empire stretches from the Philippines, Java and North Korea in the East to my Syrian, Armenia and Persian puppet rump states in the West. From Kazakhstan and Siberia to Mozambique, Angola and Madagascar.

So. My problem is that I have a majority liberal wealthy population but only one party, the Raj. Which happens to be conservative. I also can't split from the UK as would be expected in this game as I out rank them by two great power places. Anytime I try this they inherit the whole of my nation and I lose the game.

So any ideas on what to do?

I've recently been playing British India as well and am in the 1890s. I'm just wondering how you got all those factories and filled them with pops as The Raj party has an "interventionist" economic policy and a "residence" minority policy, which really limited what I could do beyond build railroads, even though a few British capitalists built some factories that remained empty. In the end, I went in and edited the party files for British India to give myself the Indian National Congress party so I could industrialize (and how!), as historically the INC was founded in 1885, but the the game does not have them, or many events for British India, something I may try my hand at changing.

Anyway, you go to where you have VIP installed, in my case "C:/Program Files/Strategy First/Victoria/db/parties" and find the text file called "IND" and paste "IND;9801;Indian National Congress;1885;1948;socialist;state_capitalism;protectionism;secularized;full_citizenship;anti_military;all;all;all" on the next line after The Raj and save it. British India will now have the INC as a party from 1885. This works for saved games as well. The policies I gave to the INC were based on my approximation of them from a read of the Wikipedia article. If they are wrong, feel free to correct them. Alternatively, you can write an ahistorical custom party for British India.

I found the info to do this at the Vicky Wiki, specifically here:

Considering the number of political parties in India, I went back and wrote in all the parties I found that existed prior to 1936.

Just delete everything in the "IND" file and paste this in instead:

Nice suggestions there. Personally I think that pre-1858 there should be the East India Company ruling, with "The Raj" afterwards, just to show some difference in internal policies. There were some suggestions on this over on the other forum, but I like yours too!

I'd forgotten about the British East India Company, so I wrote them in. The only thing is that I don't really know how to get the EIC to change by event to the Raj with the Indian Rebellion of 1857, and I'm not exactly sure what's going on with the Subcontinent for 0.3, although I've started reading the thread on the topic.

triggering the second arrow war

Anyone know what the treaty vale = 3 refers to in the 2nd opium war trigger

trigger = {
flag = { name = chi_treaty value = 3 }

for some reason this event never fires for me.

I thought maybe I need to refuse the final repayment to the Brits or something

Thanks

Based on flags set by previous events.

IIRC, the flag value is increased each time China pays a part of the indemnity from the First Opium War. If the Chinese decide not to pay, and the British end up keeping the ports, then the whole raison d'etre for the Second Opium War is pretty much gone, and the historical thread is broken.

It's 1964. I've got the Democrats in power, and the US mostly conservative. Is it possible that I can evade the Civil War, and what concenquences will it have?

yes you can so long as the Republicans don't take power. you should be able to keep the civil war from happening at this point.

There will be events starting in c. 1880 that will allow you to emancipate the slaves if you wish

Japanese Event chains

Been playing as Japan a lot lately and have noticed recurring themes. For some reason, and I am playing very closely to history (only real different choice I made was accepting limmited Dutch Involvement). However, despite me making no ground breaking choices, the chain for the Meiji Restoration always fails to go off, starting all the way back from the Chosu Domain events; none of them fire. No Anglo-Satsuma War, no Boshin War, though even without the Meiji Restoration events (the downside of these not firing being that I don't get free civilised status and lots of free-techs), other such events such as the movement of the Imperial Capital to Edo to fire. This has been consistent for the past 3 games. I think for 0.3 these chains need a good looking over...

did you tried to create a revolution in your country ? (by raising taxes). for regular countrys which are under satellite status the occupation of your capital by rebels makes you independent. (after a few days)

im not sure if this causes bugs playing british-india because of the scripted payments to great britain but if youre bored give it a try.

Cannot release satellites at start of VIP

I was just going to start a new game in VIP:R V0.2, I wanted to play as Ireland from the start (1836) (which I did before with Vanilla Vic). So I started as the UK and was attempting to make Ireland a satellite, but it won't let me. The button for releasing satellites is greyed out and I can't use it, what gives?

I thought maybe it was because the UK had cores in Ireland, so I removed them in the save file, but that didn't help. I went back to my Vanilla Victoria install and I am able to release Ireland in that. I know that satellites are governed by the "revolt.txt" file, but in Ireland's entry it says they can be satellited from 1836 onwards.

What exactly do I have to do in order to be able to release Ireland (or any other satellite) at the start of the Grand Campaign?
