Haiti would get a lot more immigrants if it remained L/F and funded all the social reforms at max.

Haiti shouldn't have a problem building factories because it has a 5.0 sugar and that should provide more than enough income for Haitian capitalists to non-stop build.
In fact that's why I usually conquer Haiti in most of my games, it becomes immensely profitable when conquered by a foreign power and can be conquered with a measly two divisions! :D

What are the conditions to attract immigrants?
Do I have to have a democracy with liberal party in power? How would I change my population to become liberal dominant?

Also for my social reforms do I have to put everything into maximum? Or is it sufficient if I put everything on the minimum then set my budget social expenditure to max? How would I fund them anyway?

Plurality is the key factor when it comes to immigration, you don't have to have a liberal party in power, it's more important that it is full citizenship and that you're a democracy with all social reforms (except max work hours).

You don't need to fund the social reforms to get the immigration boost, just enact all of them (again except max work hours) on the highest level and set the funding to zero. You also need to stay out of debt to get immigrants.

Ah thank you very much
I think this is straight on the point
Unfortunately the only other party which has full citizenship is an anarcho-liberal one - is it advisable to switch to it? (I'm currently on Constit Monarch after the event, for some reason I can't get it to turn into a democracy even with the political reforms)

I've got idealogical thought researched, it's 1850+ but I'm still on 19~20 plurality. The consciousness of my population are already quite high (I think most of them are on 8~10 thanks to my ruthless taxation and cutting back on the social fund) but the plurality still goes slow, I'm worried that my plurality will not be up in time to get my immigration (and industry and military) booming before the time ends.

yeah, that is a pretty fair complaint. I never have fun playing as the US. You can only conquer the entire western hemisphere so many times. The Civil War is never very difficult unless one plays historically and has a pitiful army.

As you can guess I prefer Canada for North American domination...or Texas, they are fun too. But yeah, America is pretty easy and not too much fun.

Fighting the U.S. as Mexico was depressing. It was about 1880s when I had my original lands plus parts of the South and Midwest. At the beginning of the war I had about 10 more divisions than the U.S. By the end they had a good 20 more, nevermind that I had wiped out about 20 by encirclement a group one by one.

Wait until a socialist party is available and get them in power. If you are a democracy you might have to raise taxes to max, close all RGOs and factories to make the people go socialist.

To sum it up: yes it is. :D

the U.S. has retardedly rich RGOs, has a privileged position, immigration bonuses, democractic right from the bat (plurarity therefore decreases militancy), and so on. Barring a highly spartan gameplay, you own the game by the 20th century.

I think that the only countries that can give a run to the U.S. are Britain, Germany and an industrialized China, honestly. Perhaps Russia too?

How else did you expect a former Colony to go from that to becoming the worlds premier power? In short: They should be easy to play as.

Not in the civil war they shouldn't :p

Not in the civil war they shouldn't :p

I think part of the problem is that the CSA AI handles the situation not too well. When the civil war starts I sometimes disable fog of war to watch how it goes (unless I'm busy myself at the time) and it's almost making me tear my hair. I also can't remember seeing them using leaders.

What triggers the "have we sacrificed too much?" or what it's called? Recently in a game as Netherlands I send an expeditionary corps of about 120k men just for fun and I've been confident to turn the tide, but shortly after I took my divisions back to reinforce them, suddenly the war was over :(

Basically, 40% or more CSA provinces need to be occupied. The event's deathdate is 1880.

You have to be in full alliance with CSA to prevent the event from firing in its earlier form. Without alliance, it fires if ~40% of CSA is occupied, if allied with a human player, not until ~70% or so.

If you want to actively change the course of history, actively involve yourself in it - ally with the CSA and bring the union down. Just sending a piddling expeditionary force with no further commitment is not going to get the confederate fat out of the fire when both USA and CSA are AI-controlled.

Thank you very much Eaerendil
My Haiti game was almost a success, while my Venezuela game gets even better. Immigrants are rolling in thanks to the Full citizenship/secularized federalistic (liberal) party and my industry points beat the entire continent combined.

How to organize research?

After playing a few games I almost always research Industrial techs first and the Commerce techs come second. For the culture techs I think they're quite helpful in getting me immigrants with the plurality and prestige boosts so I also quite often add a few in my list.
But so far I have only experienced with the South American countries which are not exposed to much military threat thus I tend to slack off in military research, whilst I think would be a big mistake if I later decide to play one of the European Great powers or the uncivilized countries where they will certainly see more actions than in South America.
So to prepare myself for it, would someone tell me how should I organize my research list which will keep me up-to-date in case of aggression (how often should I do military research) but will also allow me to stay ahead in my research for industry and commerce? As for culture techs, should I get them?

I noticed that :)
It has been a spontaneous idea, I had good relations with all my neighbors and so I had spare divisions. Perhaps I'll commit myself a bit more in another game :)

Oh wow! Checo, it's Saffron, don't know if you remember me. I saw your signature before seeing the name and I knew it was you instantly. No one else would have that signature.

Any way. Lite is a version with less events, etc for slower computers.

Also; sometimes events don't go through since VIP has the chance for alternate history--albeit slim in most cases. If it doesn't work again it is most likely a bug.

IIRC French intervention in the 1860s won't happen if there is no revolution in 1854, which itself won't happen if Mexico holds on to Texas rather than loses the war to the USA.

So if you go off the historical path too much early in game and are more successful than Mexico historically was, there will be no French intervention, which was of course caused by Mexico both defaulting on European loans AND Mexican conservatives wanting European help to regain power after their defeat during La Reforma of the 1850s.
