Not in very large numbers, and on a contract basis. At most were talking a few tens of thousands - no more than 10K in Victoria pop terms total.

Same in Britian - even with its huge empire, the non-European population of Britain as late at 1931 was IIRC well under 100K total, in Victoria terms that is 25K POPS.

Especially in VIP, where we strive to ensure a historical gameplay environment, the last thing we would want is to encourage mass migration of non-Western POPs into Europe. It just did not happen on more than a small, haphazard scale.
yes, but the thing I tried to explain is that if I see western POPs migrate to other continents (America or Australia for example), is normal that the non-western POPs migrate to Europe, even if not in a huge number as the europeans to America or Australia. I like to see this, because could add an historical thing that there isn't in VIP now, the migration of the POPs of our colonies.

Strange that only years after the Napoleonic wars, France is so weak but I'll try ;)
Because unlike other european nation, France did not had any demographic boom. All of sudden, the country moved in the 18th century from the old scheme of demography (much kids, few survive) to a few kids that all survive. There was no transition like in other countries (when they experience the same change in 19th century) where there was still a lot of kids but all survived. So French population did not skyrocketed like germany's or UK's ones did.

And you have to add to that the loss of 2 millions men thanks to the corsican butcher, and 25 years lost in our damned revolution: in 1788, France was on the same level as Britain. She lost all her advance because of the 25 years of turmoil and had to start again industrial revolution and such.

It's one of those things that's hardcoded, so we don't really have the ability to mod it unfortunately.

If the sourcecode is released, I would be minded to remove the absolute immigration ban to Europe. Third World POPs won't move into Europe anyway, because a) most of them are short range and b) Europe can't compete with the Americas as an immigrant magnet.

I wouldn't be death against two or three colonial POPs cropping up in European capitals now and again. As long as the migrations aren't massive (i.e. less than historically occurred) I think it might add an interesting dimension to the game.

Hi. I'm playing VIP:R and was wondering why Africa is all filled up with small countries with peace treaties with everyone. This forces me to colonize by force rather than the usual expansion and take great influence hits every time. Why was it designed this was?

Basically Emp Palpatine got the main points

The treaties blocking expansion until 1885 allows better simulation of the scramble AFTER the treaty of Berlin fires in 1885. It also keeps the AI nations like Russia unlikely to colonize in ahistoric places (though this is less of a problem in Revolutions with the new colonial system than it was back in 1.04 and earlier versions of Victoria when it really was open season for colonization, which is why this system was developed in the first place)

Also, the vanilla setup in Africa was, to put it mildly, insulting to the dignity and actual historical legacy of statebuilding in Africa and the nature of the imposition of colonial rule on the continent. Africa was not a tabula rasa. Europeans did not just walk in and be greeted by African peoples as bringers of some special "light of civilization" to illuminate their benighted world. Far, far from it. By dividing up most of Africa into states that human and AI nations must interact with, it allows for the actual political, economic and military dynamics of the colonial process to be modelled in a much more accurate way. The process of colonization in Africa was not peaceful, it was often bloody and brutal, and having Africa full of states helps to better capture the true historical nature of the imperialist moment than having it be represented by buildings and auto claiming regions colonies with no local input to the process whatsoever.

I do not like it for nuts. Hadn't we have that useless blood bath, France (and Europe too) would be a by far more healthier country politically speaking, she would have been able to stand on the same level as Britain during XIXth century, while following its own liberalization of politics, the same way britain did.
But that's stuffs for the history forum. ;)

I think it would be pretty good if France hold the same speed in everything as UK during this century. And who knows, perhaps it should have been France invading europe during the WorldWars instead of Germany ( doubt they would have joined in one nation than ) ;)
I also think France should have been stronger and a more stabilizating power during the 19th century ( like them better than UK :p )

But that's for Hoi2...

Now that french version you linked me to, what's the problem if it can't open the'db/fevents(yes, fevents )/randomevents'?

Japan Civ Nation

Okey.. First off... Oh my god! Why can't I become a Civ Nation? I've done my homework and I need 100 Prestige 75 Industry and 25 Mil Power... The problem is that 25 Mil power is really hard to get when you only have Natives.. Ande then I discoverd that you could get an Event 19 May 1860 that should Civ Japan.. But nooooo. Why? Please help me.. Can I modificate the event Civ for any nation, to more moderate numbers like 20 Industry power and 10 mil power?

Help me..

French Capitalists

I am playing Viky Rev with the VIP mod and the latest patch and I was wondering if the problem with the French capitalists not producing factories and railroads has been corrected? If not is there anyway to play France and get around this ?

I am in the middle of a french latest-patched vip/ricky game at the mo , and the capitalists are creating rroads and factories quite happily. Currently in 1959 with Liberals (the party not the ethos) in power and they are merrily toiling away. I've not seen any evidence of them lounging around doing nothing though, as normal , they are being reluctant to expand factories.

see Surt's post above. We changed civilizing for uncivs in VIP:R 0.1, so as long as you are playing Revolutions with VIP:R 0.2 (the current version of VIP for Revolutions), then the requirements are as Surt noted.

Hmm I dunno but my first game with VIP 0.2 which was also my first game ever as France I found it quite easy so that I lost the will to play it before 1883. Maybe I will continue it someday but this is the current situation.

I have around 200 infantry divisions, 240 reserves division (which i never used yet ;) ), and around 40 ironclads.
TBH I didn't plan to go Napoleon way but after seeing how everyone was week I just said to myself fuck it I am going bad and well the screens are the current result.

Anyway this is how I started it:
- I build up reserves from day 1 and each time that its possible
- I make 4 infrantry units each time I was financially able to do it
-when the home situation was chilled (no more revolts), like in most game i play, DOW Korea and took all the iron and coal producing provinces after that I also try to take some good provinces from Indochina.
- with this completed I go back home and I make alliances and independence guaranties with countries that I know will one day have a war against one of my main enemies (this are the countries that might attempt to take my number 1 position :D )
- ah yes usually I take Sicily for its sulfur mines
- the last part is to build at least 10-20 ironclads as soon as I am able to to rival GB

and that's it I fight the wars i get into and take what its useful to me. Also the best way to stop the USA to become a super power is to guarantee the independence of the CSA. The situation above happened because I forgot to re-guarantee the independence of the CSA and well the USA attacked so I had to cut the continent in 2 :D . With this the CSA and USA are in war for like 6 years now I think with USA having 100% exhaustion

I've done it before. I managed to conquer all of Europe and a large chunk of European Russia as France by 1900. I also still found time to create the roughly traditional French colonial empire (with Spanish, Dutch, and Portuguese additions of course) as well as the entire American Northeast.

The critical thing that I did was strike Prussia RIGHT AWAY. If you hit them at the beginning of the game you still have the upper hand. I managed to grab the Rhineland and just about permanently ruin them because of this. Of course, militarizing early hurts your economy (I was in quite a bit of debt), but your new territories should help you pay it off.

It was a fun game too. I managed to just about destroy all of the great powers except for the UK and Japan (although I ignored Japan for the most part). The last 30 years of the game were effectively a cold war between me and the UK, with me controlling all of Europe and the UK standing against me. We had a big naval race and a few colonial wars that ended in stalemates. It was fun!

They had included a file ( 'Include' ) in which it said what event files to include and in that map they had managed to write fevents and when I looked in the db/events folder, there were the ones said in that folder except the f, so I renamed all the events in that 'Include' file and then everything worked with all the events :p
It's by the way a great mod with many events, but it's on french ;)

Xseno: Just like that is what I want to do. But how did your economy survive and did you take all those colonies you get by events, like Aoethera or attacking Al Djazir and all those industry events, how did you 'get it rolling'?

Taybaxter: As well as I asked Xseno I have to ask you to: How did you do with all the events? And the problem I see with attacking them in the start is the Empire of Austria? Or do I survive them?

Shall test a mix of both your strategies someday ;)
