Could be. We might want to consider some cleanup work on our old files, the working versions that we were all uploading for 1.0 and 1.1 before aprof combined them. Or at least put them in fewer directories. It's possible that visitors might be confused by the subdirectories, even if we are telling them just what to look for and where. :)

I think the only requirement for a random event is to mark it "random = yes". As to putting the event into the randomevent file, I don't think that should be necessary, but maybe there is some small advantage to it re: processing the files by the game engine.

The events did not fire while in the regular file when "random = yes." They fire fine if "random = no."

When I'm done with testing other things I'll try putting them in the random events file and see what happens.

We do have most folders with sets of each contributor's events - Mexico has Jeno's G-H events and btg's Sonora and Chihuahua. Texas has Theo's, Mo's, Achiles and more. I believe all are tested and working versions, but it's possible that some of these have minor probs or aren't the most recent tweak.

Should we combine all the folders for individual countries into a folder, so that the first file page will show just 1) the downloads folder, 2) the various vip_xxx folders for our submissions and events in progress and 3) the folder for individual countries?

Yes I like that. That way people know where to go. Country folders, a Download folder, and the In Progress folder, each with its own subsets.

This event needs to be changed as shown below, so that it won't fire if there's an alliance between the US and Texas. Otherwise a computer Texas will usually break an alliance with the US to become a dominion of UK. That is not historical. (Texas becoming a dominion of UK if there's no alliance with US is fine. Texas would have turned to UK if rebuffed by US, perhaps.)

I now have the Texas events firing from a unified file. I will attempt to finish testing this file asap, but real life has some demands in the next couple of days.

I have tweaked some of the events to provide B choices. For example, the Texas player can now choose not to send Somervell's expedition, but only at the cost of turning the white population against the government. The player can also choose to avoid the rebellion near Nacodoches, but at basically the same cost. If the player chooses the historical result in each case, the cost is that the spanish population of Texas takes a long time to forgive the crushing of the rebellion, and Somervell & Company destroy relations with Mexico.

The Indian raids and battles now increase militancy on the part of the native populations in the states concerned, which means that in many cases they will eventually go on the war path and require military attention. Peace treaty and reservation events, and certain battles that closed campaigns all reset native militancy to a peaceful range, while the fort establishment events also quiet the population a bit if the fort is built.

I've toned down a few of the diplomatic event bonuses, because they improved relations a bit too much.

Well, I'm going to put my Canada and Mexico research on hold until the weekend so that I can redo my existing events to follow Generalisimo's guidelines for using commands.

I've already identified about ten events that need to be given a different mod - and I haven't even looked through all the events I've done. I also have three events that I'd rather have a followup event that removes the benefit.

I think the only ones I need to adjust are my New England events, so I'll look at my stuff and let you know what to update for the submission file.

Off hand, none of my CSA or USA events changed anything his post was discussing --if it changed anything, it 'unchanged it' at the end of the war.

Here's how I redid a couple events that contained Generalisimo's problem commands. Mexico's events 213005 and 213009 were conservative and liberal versions of the same thing. The commands in them were different versions of this:

I have set a sleepevent command in each of the followup events to sleep one of the other four events. What (I think) should happen is that two or three of the events will pop up that way. The first event to fire will sleep one of the others - leaving two to go. It's possible that the second to fire will sleep the last remaining event - meaning only two will fire. But it's also possible that the second to fire will have the sleepevent number for the first event that fired, allowing the last remaining event to come into play - giving three in all.

The investments are railroad building, the growth of RGOs or a random factory.

Reading the General's comments in his email, I agree that the Texas Industrialization event seems too cheap. But it's based almost verbatim on the CSA event that Paradox wrote. So I would say that the General is correct, and both the Texas and CSA events need to be rebalanced. (And someone should ask whoever at Paradox wrote the CSA event how they came up with the price involved. It's not like I thought most of this stuff up on my own. I based my own approaches on the pre-existing Paradox events, for consistency's sake.)

In regard to the capitalist bonus in the railroad events, I am removing those, except for the ones granted and then later taken away by the subsidy events -- and those will probably get toned way down. But I don't agree that building railroads in Europe was the same as building them in the U.S. There wasn't excess land in Europe, and the building of the European railroads did not to my knowledge involve the massive land grants and other immense subsidies showered on the railroads in America.

I am in full agreement that balance issues should be paramount, but we also cannot follow a path that assumes all things were equal in all places. Because they weren't.
