Well, once again I'm stumped. The U.S. Boxer events won't fire if just Taiwan and Tanshui are owned by the U.S., without the Phillippenes.

Good thing I don't try to write code for a living.

Doing tests on my UCA filibuster events I discovered that some triggers don't work in some campaigns.

For example, I would get a CTD by f12 triggering the event that called for alliance with GUA, COS and ELS - because these countries didn't exist in the Grand Campaign. When I went to the '61 scenario it worked. Similarly, the other two filibuster events would fire just fine in the GC, but not in the '61 scenario - I think because the deathdate was past.

Try a different scenario and see if they work there.

Just noticed in my 'cheat sheet printout' of commands and triggers that...

command = { type = army_revolt } ... is for units to revolt.

Using command = { type = revolt } is for POPular revolts.
Hmmmm. Got this from Havard's working with victoria website:

type = revolt which = [culture/-2] value = [division_type] where = [province id/-1] (when = [state])

Incites a revolt of a military unit. You can use the which field to specify a culture (or use which = -2 for the largest minority culture). If no which field any unit is chosen.The value field can be used to specify division type. If no value field any unit is chosen. The where and when fields are used to specify the location. If where is a province id, only units in this province may be affected. If 'where = -1' any random province is selected. If you want to target a random province in a state, you can use the when field.

Aragos: do you know if you can specify building a colonial division with the "command = { type = add_division which = colonial when = 1729 }"

I've seen something that suggests the add_division command is FUBAR like the add_pop command, so I may just have to use "build_division" anyway. I know that one works.

I know add_division works; I did it in my ACW events and, bam,instant army.

The problem may be in that you can't (according Havard's web site) build colonial vice national divisions. You can only define by type of division (irregular, infantry, cavalry, dragoon) and by attached brigades.

Put up a new version of my Span-Am War events at Yahoo. It's now up to 24 events (one is trivia which I think you'll appreciate).

They're still missing a lot of triggers and commands, but if you get a chance to look, I'd appreciate the feedback.

I can't get into any of the files on Yahoo at the moment. Is something down?

Having done a bit more research, I'd like to propose this as a possible alternate Alamo event.

The research is from "The Handbook of Texas Online." To Quote:
"The impact of the Goliad Massacre was crucial. Until this episode Santa Anna's reputation had been that of a cunning and crafty man, rather than a cruel one. When the Goliad prisoners were taken, Texas had no other army in the field (see REVOLUTIONARY ARMY), and the newly constituted ad interim government seemed incapable of forming one. The Texas cause was dependent on the material aid and sympathy of the United States. Had Fannin's and Miller's men been dumped on the wharves at New Orleans penniless, homesick, humiliated, and distressed, and each with his separate tale of Texas mismanagement and incompetence, Texas prestige in the United States would most likely have fallen, along with sources of help. But Portilla's volleys at Goliad, together with the fall of the Alamo, branded both Santa Anna and the Mexican people with a reputation for cruelty and aroused the fury of the people of Texas, the United States, and even Great Britain and France, thus considerably promoting the success of the Texas Revolution."

Adding much manpower would not be correct. According to the Handbook:
"The Texas armies that took the field in the Texas Revolution in 1835-36 had little continuity in membership, leadership, or organization. Virtually all of the participants served as citizen-soldiers. Those who came from the ranks of the Texas colonists demonstrated a militia-like tendency to turn out during crises but then dismiss themselves at apparent lull times or to take off and care for the needs of their farms and families. A total of about 3,700 men joined the army between October 2, 1835 (the battle of Gonzales), and the concluding engagement of the war at San Jacinto on April 21, 1836. Only about 20 percent of the Texas residents who volunteered during this period served more than one stint in the military. Non-reenlistment resulted in the numerical inferiority of the Texas forces in the spring of 1836, particularly at the Alamo and in the Goliad area. The enrollment of about 1,500 recruits from the United States in the period from October through April partially offset this disadvantage in the size of the Texas army. Nevertheless, the army suffered from organizational chaos as well as episodic enrollment, so no commander succeeded in bringing more than a fraction of the full weight of his potential force into battle. A total of 1,300 men saw duty in the fall of 1835, 900 of them in the loosely conducted siege of Bexar.qv Yet, only about a third that number rallied to the call of Benjamin R. Milamqv when the Texans stormed the city from December 5-10. Similarly, more than 1,900 men turned out east of the Colorado River under Sam Houstonqv and other leaders in March and early April 1836, but Houston led a mere 900 or so onto the San Jacinto battlefield. The others had been retained to guard the rear, received or simply took furlough, volunteered too late to make the engagement, deserted, or served with units that had detached themselves from the main army out of disgust with the general's policies."

Hmm, don't forget the "control = { province = 1187 data = MEX }" trigger, so that Mexico has to control San Antonio. I like the addition of relations. As to manpower, I've been in on many discussions on the boards. And I know that Texan and American armies were small, but so was the Mexican army. And in the game, I typically see Mexico fielding armies over 50,000 strong, almost three times their maximum historical strength. So in order to balance this, a certain measure of manpower is definitely needed for Texas. They were certainly outnumbered, but not quite overwhelmed.

I left out the control trigger so that the event would happen regardless. Typically it takes an AI Mexico until later than March to invade Texas, and the Treaty of Velasco event usually fires before San Antonio ever falls into Mexican hands -- so there would be no battle of the Alamo if the control requirement is included. This way, it happens automatically.

Your point about manpower is well-taken. Up it to 10 like in the original. But the addition of another division as well would not seem in accord with history.

Granted, since Texas would be bogged down by the manpower. I'm hoping the Texian Revolt Spreads event and the transformation of the West to colonies instead of states will give Texas a slightly better chance at survival.

Granted, since Texas would be bogged down by the manpower. I'm hoping the Texian Revolt Spreads event and the transformation of the West to colonies instead of states will give Texas a slightly better chance at survival.

Where's the Texian Revolt Spreads event? (By the way, I love the Pastry War events.)

It's one of Aragos' events, which gives a little militancy to Mexico since there was a lot of civil tension in the country due to Santa Anna's suspension of the 1824 Constitution. Eventually, I'd like to give Mexico a more thorough treatment. One of the big reasons of Texas' survival is that Mexico couldn't always give it their full attention.

I've looked at the event now. It's interesting. I find that the Treaty of Velasco event is basically sufficient to allow Texas to survive and prosper (at least againt the computer). Why is the Revolt Spreads event thought necessary? In case the Treaty of Velasco is repudiated?

(A sleepevent command will have to be added to the Battle of San jacinto event so that this one is turned off if Texas gets independence via that event.)

Looking at the US and CSA events for European Intervention in Mexico (14106 & 14201), I think the 100 point prestige loss for failure to ally with Mexico against the Europeans is way too high. I've lowered it to a 10 point loss in my files.
