Well, I hadn't coded anything for the Monitor/Merrimac, though I suppose I could whip something up. What I remember about the Confederate ironclads is, iron was a huge limiting factor for them. I know the Louisiana was in drydock in New Orleans and was scuttled when Farragut captured the city..it had been delayed for lack of iron. I think the events for these ironclads should be contingent on possession of enough iron. And of course, having the requisite tech period. I don't know the name offhand but I can find it out tonight.

What do I do with these individual ones I code...like the Pastry War for Mexico and the Alamo event? Do I make a pot luck file, Aprof, and put it on Yahoo, and then you past them to the right files? :)

I just did the Alabama Claims, CSA Raiders and Monitor/Virginia events. I don't have all the data here at work, so it is currently missing some tech event numbers and province numbers.

Let me know what you think.

I thought I fixed that last night... sigh. I fired the events last night at home and got them to working and I THOUGHT I had uploaded the newest versions.

Doh!

Aprof--if the event is missing its }, I know the Russian Fleet event will lock up the game.

The thing about the monitor events is...we're giving the Union 3 techs and some ships for $10,000. That's a great deal. :) I'm wondering if the events shouldn't even fire unless they have these techs or are we saying that this crisis propels both nations into the world of iron tech?

So if the US suddenly lowers tariffs, those who oppose it would become more militant. Yet the tariff question itself would probably make all groups more aware. It sounds like each tariff choice should increase everybody's consciousness - at least the farmers, laborers, craftsmen, and capitalists - and then the militancy of whoever opposes the choice.

You can definitely make that argument. Though I would include aristocrats too since they were essentially the main group opposing protectionism.

Yes, I wanted to find out what we need to do to provide Generalissimo with those event descriptions.

The convention is to put in the description field "EVT_304XXX_DESC" and then add another line to the event_text.csv file:
EVT_304XXX_DESC;Event 304XXX's description

If I remember right, you can't give out units/forts without the supporting techs.
My approach was that the IC/MO program in the USA and CSA were crash efforts. Now that I think about it, we should make it double that amount for the USA (20K?). Hey, they were rich :)

So aristocrats were just as opposed to protectionism as farmers (thus southerners)? Makes sense. I'll edit the events then. Thanks for the help! :)

So, if I get this right, we're taking the basic approach that the RGO producing areas are in favor of free trade (cotton, etc) vice the Factory areas (to keep their prices higher for finished goods)?

Makes sense to me.

Makes sense to me.

It was a big sectional issue. Northerners (yankee) favored the protection of industry while Southerners (dixie) wanted lower tariffs for imports. Of course we'll still be figuring this out as we keep developing these events. This is why I would wait, Aprof, before the final final assembly until we know for sure that the General wants our final submission. Of course, we can keep tinkering and testing with what we got. :)

Just fixed the amount. Doubled the cost for USA to build the ships and get the tech.

Basically. Though that tariff was all wrapped up in the Nullification crisis, the 'Bloody Bills', you name it. Missed it by only 3 years! :D I think we've got most of the sectional stuff though I forgot to code Senator Hammond's "Cotton is King!" speech. :)

No problem. :)

Yeah, the political allignment between the aristocrat and the poor [white] farmer is pretty damn interesting to me (of course I'm easily amused ;)). It's not everyday that a bunch of slave-owning plantation owning aristocrats like Jackson make common cause with the poor to the point of being the political force pushing for their enfranchisement. Which only makes sense when you realize that what they're after is a stronger check against yankee protectionism.

Fearing supply problems, when Sherman reached Savannah, he drafted special order no. 15, which set aside land abandoned by plantation owners in the coast and islands of South Carolina to freedmen, where each family would receieve 40 acres of land and an army mule. Several months later, the special order was countermanded by the President, Andrew Johnson, and the freedmen were forced to be enserfed to their former masters.;;;;;;;;;;X
