Event ideas for Canada
I'm wondering if this has been thought about at all, but I'm playing a game as Canada and it's 1898 and I only have cores on a couple of provinces in Quebec, Ontario, and Manitoba. Maybe an event chain could be introduced to give it cores on what would become the rest of the country progressively after 1867 as it expanded westwards, with the accompanying immigration.
Admittedly, I started the game as Britain, released all the North American colonies and reloaded as Canada and became independent and annexed them. If you don't, and play regularly according to what happened in real life, is there something that works to this effect?
Also, I was wondering if more events could be made. I find that there were only a couple of events: the fishing rights, and the first and second Northwest Rebellions. If there were more, it would definitely spice up the experience. Since it was a late-bloomer historically, most of the events would probably fire in the mid-to late game. I have a few ideas, although I really don't know how to make them myself. They include:
- admission of the provinces into confederation in the proper order, and the cores assigned appropriately
- the beginning of building of the CPR. lose tons of money and railway building supplies
- the last spike of the CPR, Hooray! Nice prestige boost and an iron/steel railway from Halifax to Vancouver?
- an event that fires an immigration event in the late 1890's when Sir Wilfrid Laurier was PM and introduced the eastern-European friendly immigration policies that populated the prairies. Maybe gives you a dramatic increase in plurality?
- a possibility to buy Alaska off Russia if the US doesn't. Obviously transfers ownership of Alaska to Canada if Russia agrees.
- an event, if you don't have a navy, that fires, giving you two of Britain's protected cruisers, which did happen in real life in, I think, 1905. The "Tinpot Navy" as it was called
- possibility of admission of Newfoundland into confederation later in the game if it is still British or a Dominion of Britain, and the cores on those provinces transfered to Canada
- the reciprocity debate over free trade in the early 1900's, again under Laurier's PM-ship, maybe influence 25% of the population to a free trade or protectionist primary issue depending on which way the debate goes
- if the Great War is properly implemented, then like any other participant, events for war bonds and the war effort in general?
- if the US bought Alaska, the Alaska boundary dispute, I think in 1898?, should fire for Britain, Canada, and America, to determine who gets ownership over the Alaskan panhandle, since we can't simulate transferring a slim strip of territory within a province and a prestige boost/loss depending on who wins the legal proceedings.
- the event that fires making Fort McPherson the precious metal producer in the Yukon needs to be changed as well. The Klondike Gold Rush was actually centred around the city of Dawson, and thus it's respective province in the game. I also wonder if 10,000 people should appear in Dawson to simulate the mad rush of people there.
That's what I came up with sitting here at the computer. I'm sure there are many more that could be incorporated as well, but those seem to be the main events that I remember from my history lessons.
Cheers,
