Here is the event:

event = {
id = 304744
random = no
country = USA

picture = 14207

trigger = { local_flag = { name = flg_secede_southcarolina value = 47 }
local_flag = { name = flg_gop value = 1 }
ruling_party = 14100
NOT = { exists = CSA }
slavery = yes
campaign = no
atwar = no
}

name = "EVT304744N" #South Carolina Secession Convention
desc = "EVT304744D"

style = 0

date = { day = 1 month = january year = 1854 }
offset = 20
deathdate = { day = 30 month = december year = 1880 }

action_a = {
name = "ACT304743A"
command = { type = trigger which = 304999 }
command = { type = sleepevent which = 304746 }
command = { type = sleepevent which = 304747 }
}
}

From there it looks like to me the Repubicans must exist and be in power(which they were) and south carolina must be at or above 47, which it was.

You need all of the following to be true :

1) SOuth Carolina flag to be at 47 or higher
2) Republican Party exist
3) Republican PArty in Power
4) Have Slavery
5) Not be in the middle of an election
6) Not be at war
7) CSA does not already exist

At this point all I can say is change the command from 47 to 44, save the file, and try it again (actually if you have a save game from the early 1850s (before the start of the event in 1854 and start from there. When you save the event change the new game will read the new trigger settings).

I do not think there are any events that would sleep this event, but I could be wrong. Will have to check when I get home.

Okay I seem to have gotten the civil war to now fire on both computers thankfully, thanks for the help. The next problem is one I noted above, the CSA, whether human or CPU controlled, never gets its historical leaders, only random ones, no matter when the Civil War fires off. The Union ones populate normally. I checked the leaders.csa file and it is there, is there a place where it's noted that this file should be loaded?

Is it perhaps that CSA does not have enough leadership upon creation to use the leaders in the leadership file, so on creation it gets default leaders? As long as VIP's CSA file overwrote the default vanilla CSA leader file in the db section of Victoria on your hard drive, you should be seeing the historical leaders leading CSA units if CSA has the leadership points to create them. But I am kind of unsure as to what the difficulty might be.

Don't follow you there. Doesn't every leader cost the 20 leadership points? What I'm saying is on both my laptop and desktop when I try to create leaders with leadership points I get generic made up leaders and not the historical leaders it should get.

Not sure then, because the file used in VIP for leaders is the same one that was included in the Victoria 1.03 Patch, so if you uploaded all your patches correctly they should appear. Anyone else have ideas on this?

Okay I've determined this is a VIP problem. When I did a clean install of vanilla and got the American Civil War the CSA leaders show up just fine, it's when VIP is installed that the leaders never work. I have not looked, but usually with this stuff it's duplicate leader IDs somewhere.

I believe I found the problem. The IDs for the CSA generals are 14200-14215. When I looked in my savegame file I found pops with those IDs. Here they are :

Code:
province = {
    id = 1827
    life_sustainability = 10
    pop = {
        id = 14200
        culture = "fulbe"

        religion = sunni

        dominant_issue = anti_military
        secondary_issue = secularized
        militancy = 5.000
        consciousness = 5.000

VIP is not the problem it is a Vanilla bug!

The bug is the leader file does not load if the country does not exist at the start fo the game!

Test it yourself, just change the CSA revolter entry in Vanilla, change General Lee's start date to 1835, start the GC and release them. Reload as the CSA after saving and give yourself 20 leadership points and create a general.

You will never get General Lee. It's differant if you start the House Divided Campiagn as the CSA is there at the start and the leaders file is loaded.

I will report this to Johan immediatly

P.S.

I am doing the final round of testing but I am 90% sure of this

I got the CSA leaders in Vanilla from starting a regular G.C. Not sure why you didn't, plus I've gotten Italian leaders and German historical leaders after their Unification events...

I just tested in 1,03c releasing Ireland with their leader set to 1835 and still got a random leader so maybe this is a new 1.03c bug? I replicated it over 3 countries though.

Replicated this bahaviour with the CSA during the Grand Campaign at the historical Civil War during the 1860's.

I didn't get the historical leaders with the 20 leadership points.

Sent this savegame to Johan as well.

this was done with 1.03c vanilla and it was 1860 in the Grand Campaign

I'm going to see if I can replicate my results as well and see how it worked for me, but not for you. Really strange....

Now that I finally bought a PC on which Victoria is acctually playable I have been playing it alot lately with VIP and did a Mexico game into 1860s yesterday.

I have see there has been alot of good work put into it and I thank you for that, but it often felt as if on auto-pilot.

I got an event that raised militancy by 4 or 5 for all in Mexico, because I supposedly lost a war against the US. But the war was a clear draw with a white peace signed after only a couple of months. The event obviously needs some flags in the trigger.

The whole revolution thing was too rigid again for my taste. I introduced a democracy via this 3 choice event (though I had done most of the reforms manualy before already) only to have it changed for a presidential dictatorship via a no-choice event a year later. Its like who is playing this game me or the events? In Vic you are supposed to be a man behind the scene influencing stuff and pulling strings. Shouldn`t that give me at least some option even if a costly and a hard one to avert this coup somehow??

Then its the whole Indian states thing. First seeing them I thought, oh great we get Indian wars. So I plan ahead and build a large army with an intent to DOW the Cherokee during the ACW only to discover there is some kind of mechanism there that instantly makes a white peace beetwen us. Great, more auto-piloting. So I am stuck with events that slowly give me territory from Apache basicaly meaning A) I can`t influence my northward expansion B) I don`t have to do anything for it.

Not to mention the Mormons probably shouldn`t be moving into Apache if I haven`t lost the Mexican-American war and am stil maintaining hegemony over the Apache (and on paper as far as civilised nations are concerned thus de jure own that land).

I will check out the Cherokee Peace out - I thought I had designed it only to fire during the Mex-USA war and not later, but apparently not.

As for the Mormons, you are probably right if Mex defeats the USA in a war before the event happens. Will look into it.
