You could try making AUS target TUR more and have FRA and AUS have the italians in their protect list.
Oh yeah, if you make events involving PRU could you make them work for PRU or GER so an early GER has something to do? :)

Historically austrian government was almost racist regarding italians, and as Dark wrote on his site Metrnich thought Italy as a geographical expression and not a cultural one, If it was up to austria Italy should have been even more disunited I think, even Milan and Venice were formally satellites, but they didnt have all the freedom satellites get in the game...

Surely I'd do, but being a bit afraid about testing (I bought my computer directly from Bismarck himself) is there a quick way to write events and a quick way to test them... is it there? No eh? :) What method do u use guys?

If you're editing an event rather than making a new one make sure you have a backup :)

As for testing, just start a game. The worst that can happen is you'll get an error message which you can either ignore to continue loading or abort to quit out of Vic.

I haven't tried editing AIs, but I'd just make a backup, change some values and see what happens.

Hi, I read the whole thread. I'm happy that people are treating this so seriously.

Anybody consider the possibility that the small states just shouldn't be involved in the war of 1848, even though that's unhistorical? Would it be such a big difference?

Anyhow, How do you represent the 1848 revolt in Rome being put down by the French? Perhaps Papal States should be a French satelite if they lose the war with Austria?

Also, what about if of all the capitols: Milan, Venice, Rome, Naples, Frienze, and Turin, get occupied by rebels, then randomly SP or Naples inherits ALL Italian cores , and Italy becomes a democracy, and Austria declairs war on italy? This would represent the possibility that Mazzini's revolution had actually succeded and his more extreme Italy born. Of course you could combine it with high revolt risk or something.

Milan and Venice revolt upon "liberal revolution" hit of Austria (actually they did it mid march 1848).
SAR has a choice between "taking the mantle" (i.e. declare war to Austria, form alliance with Milan if independent and change constitution and ruling party) and giving up (i.e. create internal turmoil: being hit hard by liberal revolution).
Sicily should revolt and form a liberal government.

If Austria loses Veneto then an early unification should occur.

If SAR is again defeated by Austria (losing one of their core provinces) then an armistice should fire, but SAR should remain liberal and with cores on Italy.

This is what I think about it too. Sicily should have a very reactionary AI and also the constitution event should be limited (it was just a thing Ferdinand II gave to the rebels until he had again the possibility to return to the tiranny as you know). It's very interesting what you write about the early unification, I think one of the important historical points is that Italy was in SAR ideas originally just the North Italy (needed provinces Venice, Milan, Piemonte, Firenze), it was the "Italy" they were aiming to (I must admit this even if I dont agree with the parties that in Italy would like to separate north and south Italy). The whole peninsula was more a Mazzini and Garibaldi idea, in fact SAR troops never fought below the Tuscany and obtained the south from a Garibaldi's and popular initiative and its acceptable to think they wouldnt have invaded SIC, at least not in those times... The works we have about Italy after the unification clearly explains the whys, south Italy had a low literacy (but also SAR had literacy much lower than how it is in the game, actually literacy in the unified Italy in 1860 was 25%), no infrastructure, high crime activity and I have even read that once it happened that unified Italy north troops arrested a Calabria division thinking they were camouflaged Austrians and not italian regulars cause they didnt uderstand their language. It would be interesting to have some "what if" events in this case. But its not time for this, hopefully I will have some time to write something today...

Yes I agree on this, they should have an option to join the war or have revolts and its not unhistorical at all, Modena and Parma had the same problem of other minors on those times, the difference is that they choosed to remain loyal to Austria and infact they faced big revolts in their respective countries

They didnt lose the war with Austria, they just retired their troops. PAP was liberated by AUS, FRA SPA and SIC and this can be simulated IMHO with alliances by an event (in Vicky ur allies often intervene against rebels at least in my files) dont know if they intervene even if its not an alliance but a guarantee (???) (BTW the intervention could be consequence of an event like "Catholic Great Powers help the Pope") or making the catholic great powers AI to be likely to guarantee PAP... this could be an obstacle to the conquest of Rome as it actually was until 1870... Dont know if this can be simulated avoiding someone taking any province...

In this case (I like the what ifs even if there more urgent things to do I think :) ) who cares if SAR or someone else get the provinces? It is Italy now and a democratic republic as u say. But I think all this work even if very interesting has to be done after the historical events... Personally, as inexperinced as I am, I guess will have many problems in trying to do what I would like to write... I must impose to myself a step by step policy...

I do not think that is a good idea...
If we made that event, people will just let the rebels control all those cities to become Italy, it will make things a lot easier for the player only... :(

Everything is nice in the III independence war. Just two things: dshonouring the alliance iMO should cost more prestige to Italy (its a deal too good to be not accepted) and why Austria is losing prestige? they would be already penalized enough in both cases.... last thing: in event 185012 if by default the first option is the one which has more chances to be chosen by AI they should be inverted...

i will change it to 50% / 50%, so there are more cases that the AI accept it... because a player will 100% accept that ;)

well, i think that Austria will be seen like any prestigious nations when they are "surrendering" all of their southern part of their country... and -10 is not that much for avoiding a war.... the provinces that they loose are more valuables... ;)

i will see if Italy choose too much the first option, if that happens i will reduce it even more... also i will check how Italy ends after this event, to see if i need to take more prestige from them for accepting this.
