I was playing the VIP GC as Prussia and managed the entire series of historical German Unification events (more or less, anyway, the Austrians backed down instead of fighting me over German supremecy).

The game was nearing its ending years and, having an advantage in military strength (I had developed tanks and produced them in good quanitity, so had developed a good number of infantry with tank attachments), I decided to go on a true war spree. I declared war on Russia, and did rather well, but some of the WW1 related events fired, namely, the sending of Lenin to Russia, the Russian revolution, etc, that much made sense. At the end of the war I had a modest 25% war score and all was well. I then suddenly got the Rebellion event that occurs to Germany if they lose WW1, which made no sense at all.

I'm unsure if I installed VIP correctly, seeing as your 1914 scenario crashes when I try and run it, an improper instillation is the only explanation I can think of beyond the event itself not being written correctly.

My guess is you installed correctly. The events for the 1914 scenario are designed also for later game firing in other scenarios IIRC, but have probably not been looked at all that much in VIP lately - later game has not been the primary focus for the developers up to 1.04B, so the potential for oddities to come up later in game with events designed for late game is quite possible, especially if they are vanilla events.

I figured that was the case. In my above post I said 25% war score, I meant 25% war exhaustion.

I haven't looked at the event itself, but my guess is that being/having a war and war exhaustion over a certain amount triggers it, I had also accidently made myself a Con-Mon through expanding voting rights to wealth which may or may not have been a factor.

But in any case, the triggers for the event, assuming the event is kept in the GC, need to be seriosuly reworked, and it may need to be reworded as well, refrences to the Treaty of Versvailles make no sense at all when WW1 didn't, and won't, occur.

To be expected as many events for VIP have "ahistorical" options. The AI can choose them just like human players, and has approximately 1 in 20 chance of doing so in normal events. Considering the number of events there are for Prussia and for nations with events caused by Prussia's actions, the chances of things not staying "strictly historical" will be high, especially with the lower emphasis on post-1880 events reducing the "channeling" of nations along more historical paths.

VIP does endeavour to make the game "more historical" especially in AI-controlled nation behavior, but it can not make it 100% historical in all areas. Some areas we need to expand the ahistorical element more, other areas players may feel we need to channel events more historically than currently. It's an issue of balance, and while we are not perfect at it, VIP does make a good attempt at it : compare how ofter GER, ITA and SCA form in VIP under AI conditions in comparison to 1.03C unmodded.

(not a big deal anyway, since it is an unnecessary event that should be removed... All German minors were monarchies or constitutional monarchies in 1850, and yet Germany didn't unify)

Not true at all. This event is the historically correct outcome. In 1850, the Treaty of Olmutz did trigger a crisis of german leadership, but in fact Prussia backed down and the german Federation was restored. Taking this event out would make the historical path impossible to follow.

However, the event does seem to be broken as it simply makes you Germany as an absolute monarchy from what I can see. I'm looking through the events to find a way to try and fix the chain.

Edit: On further research, the chain actually isn't broken. The one, slightly odd, thing is that the events to get the german minors to join the Conservative empire (3605 is the example for Bremen) has a death date of 1852, whilst the end of the unification war is capable of firing until 1858. Perhaps the minors joining Germany events should be changed to a death date of 1858?

Triggering the events manually, Germany is formed correctly, and most states join. Badboy gain is about 25.

I would rather like tro see an event that checks if all other german nations ar AI controlled and that simply add the command "Inherit = BRE"

If a germany would be created there where no real "choise", and if they had a problm they would try to "fix" this problem internaly...

Th german minors would rather be forced to join germany, and not only by the new regent, further more by their own population... I mean it was the wish of the entire german bund to form a germany...

But after my Political overhaul many german states will be const. Mon. in 1836

I should also add that I think this should happen only after the dismissal of Bismarck (1890, although there perhaps should be an event to simulate this). The Chancellor favoured keeping close ties with Russia and remarked that as long as he were in power, he would have no quarrel with Russia. This is also evidenced by the fact that he intervened when Count Andrassy time and time again pushed for war against Russia in 1878. I shall write the event chain after my exams are done.

Then if the Germans beat Russia so thoroughly they make Russia a satellite (thereby having all those previous cores go to Germany), Russia releases a lot of revolters. I'm not sure about the Central Asian states but I threw them in anyway. Azerbaijan is not a revolter in Vanilla Vicky and I think it should be. *NOTE, U23 is now Azerbaijan following the changes in Victoria Revolutions. NB - Crimea not released now as this would mean no Black Sea port for Russia.

Then Germany has a choice. The usual one would involve a Brest-Litovsk style ring of puppet states (ai = 99%), the other would keep the conquered territory in German borders (ai = 1%). This is followed by a border readjustment event since Germany wouldn't let a Polish puppet have West Prussia or Silesia.

i swear the quality of VIP should be studied by other projects for other games even. vicky is the best paradox game imho and VIP is the best mod.

These events should be included in either a modified or 'straight up' form.

Glad to see the responses coming in so quickly.

So, do you think that:

1) Crimea should be released by Russia, or just Ukraine?
2) Should Germany get more than a 500 prestige boost? This is happening in 1891, and bear in mind Britain and France will have (usually) claimed much of Africa leading to huge prestige boosts. Surely claiming most of Eastern Europe would lead to a greater prestige boost than Africa? This is however a difficult thing to model, since we never know what happens with the Scramble for Africa.
3) The historical Treaty of Brest-Litovsk created a ring of puppet states for Germany. Should Germany get further BB increases if it decides not to release the puppets? Or do you think the BB increase from embarking on this war (a lot for the annexations and +5 for just choosing empire) is enough?

Any further thoughts and recommendations are most welcome.

Basicly the events are good, but they are little bit to much ww1 style will the pangermanism was litle bit differend...

so your events will be included into the pangermanism events, only slightly modified...

I've made some changes. Crimea won't be released, and now Russia cedes the territory to Germany first and then Germany releases. 99% of the time the AI will release the puppet states, and then I have a border readjustment event to fix things up (German Poland-puppet shouldn't get West Prussia or Silesia).

The AI is almost never going to be able to pull this off - making Russia a satellite. It'll be a challenge almost always for the player only.

Quite right about it looking like the Great War. Problem is, the events in the 1914.txt file have nothing to do with VIP since VIP only starts in 1836. This perhaps leaves that option open. Note this can only happen if the Alldeutscher Verband is in power - the AI will never vote it into power. I'm rather sure that a reactionary party never gets voted in, unless a Con Mon player sets it as the ruling party.

Is there a chance of a Lithuanian, Baltic State kingdom too, which is what happened during the end of the Russian Revolution?
It'd just be a quick thing to drop in little events for Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia to monarchise them, since if released normally that doesn't appear to happen.

An interesting idea that just came to me (and hopefully has not been discussed before):

What if there was an ahistorical event chain that would cause the German minors to unite against Prussian and/or Austrian domination, in the late 1840s or early 1850s?

I think it could be an interesting way to throw a wrench into the plans of players of the big German states.

Maybe something like this:

-Bavarian event fires to kick off the chain (biggest minor rallies the other minors), Bavaria changes tag to German Federation (using either NGF or SGF tag)

-yes/no events fire for other German minors to join, if somehow no minors join, German Federation turns back into Bavaria

-events for Prussia and Austria to either declare war or let the matter drop. (note: either way, Prussia loses all of its extraPrussian cores to prevent the satellite trick)

-a second 'join?' event fires to try to get any remaining minor to join the GF if PRU/AUS declare war (any remaining minors see that the big states really are intending to dominate them)

-maybe ENG/FRA/RUS intervention?

-if the PRU/AUS win, they could either divide the GF between them or simply shatter the GF again.
