If I were to guess by OHGamer's comments regarding a VIP for vic2, the guys at the team already have an idea of what to do, particularly by the many references that he made to Magna Mundi and the great praise he has given.

Or in other words: V2IP/VIP2 is going to be damn great. :D

You think majorca/mallorca is bad, try almost every Italian, French, or German city. Almost no town is left unscathed by the brutality of the English tongue. Firenze does not in anyway sound like Florence. They also deemed it necessary to change Roma to Rome, but that's more the Germans fault, as they also call Roma Rom. Then most atrociously of all, Munchen to Munich. What?! The situation only becomes worse when one looks at non Western European countries. No country is free of blame though. The Spanish call London Londres or Londra, very incorrect.

The way the English pronounce Greek places (and names!) gets me the most. Panikos (pronounced BaniGos) becomes Pan-ee-cOHs, Andreas becomes AnDJReas (without the propered rolled 'r'), and so on.

VIP2 will presumabley be a linguistics opack for Vic2, after this discussion!

Sure some games like Mass Effect or Dragon Age have some better production values in certain ways but even playing thru twice you are lucky to see 20 hours worth of playing time and those games are easy to forget about when not playing. Vicky had me thinking on the drive to work about my plans... so the entertainment extended even beyond the actual hours spent playing.

I know what you mean, I am always thinkig about my plans for Victoria whne not actually playing, whereas for games like GTA I lose interest quickely and don't think about it when not playing. Obviously Paradox is doing something right when this happns!

It depends how much value you get out of playing a game and what the future expectations of playing similar games are. Personally I don't think there are very many companies focused on the same target market as Paradox and to me the difference between US $19.99 in the bargain bin vs $39.99 is almost invisible compared to getting typically at least 50 hours play out of most Paradox games over a couple years if not much more(HoI2 and Vicky I probably played 100 hours each). I spend more than $20 eating a single meal with my girlfriend easily and that is maybe 3 hours worth of enjoyment... 1.5 eating and 1.5 other things.

It actually takes about 40 hours minimum to complete those games, so I think you're underestimating. ;)

This reminds me a Churchill quote:

I do not consider that names that have been familiar for generations in England should be altered to study the whims of foreigners living in those parts. Where the name has not particular significance the local custom should be followed. However, ‘Constantinople’ should never be abandoned, though for stupid people ‘Istanbul’ nay be written in brackets after it. As for ‘Angora,’ long familiar with us through the Angora cats, I will resist to the utmost of my power its degradation to ‘Ankara.’

You should note, by the way, the bad luck which always pursues peoples who change the names of their cities. Fortune is rightly malignant to those who break with the traditions and customs of the past. As long as I have a word to say in the matter ‘Ankara’ is banned, unless in brackets afterwards. If we do not make a stand we shall in a few weeks be asked to call Leghorn ‘Livorno,’ and the BBC will be pronouncing ‘Paris’ Paree. Foreign names were made for Englishmen, not Englishmen for foreign names. I date this minute St. George’s Day.

Um...'Florence' is a lot closer to the original Latin 'Florentia' than is 'Firenze.

It would seem the English pronunciation is closer to the older, Ancient Greek pronunciation than is the Modern Greek one.

(Mis)pronounciation and English spellings are not really the topic of this thread folks, as interesting an OT topic it is. My guess is there is no way to please everyone. Anyways, let's get back to the original topic, and take this other discussion to OT, where it really should be.

Hah, it all depends how much you have to work for those 20$. If you work all week just to afford it, your are a poor POP, but the girlfriend is lucky and should be grateful
However I agree, the price of the game doesnt matter so much to me either, but I think it must be in working condition to be any fun. A bugged game thats almost unplayable isnt something i wanna spend my time with. I am a consumer POP with high conciousness, and my needs are not satisfied unless i have good games to play with. That and a stockpile of tobacco.

:D Gotta love Churchill! Personally I can't even say "Istanbul" after I first learned that the city once went by the beautiful name of "Contantinople".

Well if it takes more hours of work to earn the game than you will get from playing it I would be surprised you have a computer to play it on... but actually that is the one area of piracy I'm sympathetic too. Some people I met in China and Morocco and some other places earn such low income that $20 is relatively alot and they end up stealing games. Anyone stealing a game like Vicky 2 though probably has higher income potential in their future I'd guess and will probably pay when they can afford though that is a really interesting question if it becomes ingrained into the culture like what I saw in China.
