Afrikaner AND Boer together, but separate  Fun!

Reminds me of a Russian game with an industrialised Greater Alaska. Apparently, in VIP, it is much cheaper to ferry coal from Mother Russia to Alaska to turn into cement and glass than to use the locally produced lumber in mills

Unfortunately the capi build system (which we at VIP have little ability to modify in terms of how it works) does not take into account local resources and distances. But then since the player would not have those restrictions if they build the factory themselves, would be wrong to have the capis be limited that way.

If you are playing VIP:R it is challenging but can be done. It will take time though. Most players in testing had China civilized by 1900-1910, Siam by the 1890s, and even Sokoto before the European colonial onrush of the late 1890s.

So yes it is possible, but it is a long, slow process given the new requirements dependent on technologies and inventions. But at least with VIP:R 0.1 much of the malus to RP generation for uncivs has been reduced, so that as your literacy increases, your RP generation increases as well (up to a max of 70% of the level of civilized nations).
it is really a long way
not to mention that the VIP has a much slower gamespeed - -
Why Siam? any special event she has?

I find that in VIP:R, it is easier to civilize with small nations. Indeed, the previous industrial and military (especially that one) score requirements meant dreadful times for many of the smaller-sized and populated nations. The endless queues of ships and native divs (if you're lucky, irregular if you're not) that just don't count for anything, then the need to staff those factories... Plus the non-VIP:R POP conversion costs...

So, it is not simple, but I find it to be simpler than before. At least if you're not China and its 400 million starting population >.>
yeah, the millitary point is easy to achieve for even Korea
don't need to produce a lot man-on-war
anyway, i will try China again, see if any chances to make the progresses faster
Besides, it is said that VIP:R will have a update vision which conclude Sino-Japanese war in 1895, ever heard of the new vision?

no special events, but the person who game tested it said he was able to get Siam to civilized status in the 1890s. This will change a bit in VIP:R 0.2 where there will be an event chain that will allow Siam to become civilized in 1909 in wake of the various treaties over borders with the French and British.

but yeah, this is a long process, but that reflects history - the West did not really begin to consider non-Western societies as even remotely their equals until the early 20th C, when you see the British form their alliance with Japan and end the last of their extraterritoriality rights. So having civilizing be possible for China, Siam etc by the 1890s is about right in terms of historical mindset.

en, i get it~thx a lot
the event chain of China is rather useless before the VIP vision since most players can get the machine part before 1843 and get the free trade+Napolean thought by sell lands. But now the "self-promot" event seems have some use for it can bring some one level tech

Were those players able to civilize without having to resort to violence?

afaik yes.

one doesn't need to be a warmonger to civilize in VIP:R, in fact being a warmonger might be the worst thing to do since it may make it impossible to fund education fully, which is the key to building up your RP generation and thus getting all the needed techs.

the requirements again

VIP:R 0.1 for Revolutions

If you are playing the Victoria Improvement Project the requirements for civilizing change. Instead of score it requires the following:

The Scores

10 Prestige
6 Military Score

The techs

Early Railroad
Ad-hoc money bill printing
Market Structure
Army Professionalism
Naval Professionalism
State & Government
Empiricism

The Inventions

Ministerial Government (You need State & Government and Empiricism for it to trigger)

Once these prerequisites are fulfilled you should be on your way to civilizing, but since the civilizing event isn't actually an event, but an invention it may take some time before it triggers. So have patience.

Note the pie chart. Not bad if I do say so myself. Afrikaner is a culture I created to prevent an unsightly mixing of north and south German.

Would that be the VIP and did you remove the colony blocks and peace treaties?

Woops. I just linked myself here from my good ol UCP. Forgot it's in the VIP forum

And speaking of VIP, I just really really have a hard time enjoying the year 1836. When I think of 1836, I think of gumdrops and pepermints, and also, six shooters in the old west, a rebelling Texas, and loss of European power at home and abroad. A revolted New World, independent states, carved with the blood sweat and tears of the Spanish and English, French and Portuguese, so much time, money, and lives put into the colonies, just to have their own kin rebel. Shameful, really.

No need to respond, I understand it's OT, but 1836?!?! Why oh why... :eek:o

*coughs* but anyway, back on topic. I think the most fun is taking away those two disclosable EUG's, leaving Africa alone, and then seeing who takes what. I personally always have enjoyed simple people (forget the word) leading simple lives. Not indigenious, not native, some other word.

Because that is what regular Victoria starts at, and the vast majority of players play from the start year.

And for American players, 1836 and Texas is actually a big draw to play. ;)
