Thanks for the reply. While I was in the interregnum between the two wars against Hungary, the aid from Russia event fired even though I was at peace with Hungary at that time. Was that supposed to happen as well?

will check the triggers, most of the time AUS and HUN are still usually at war by the time the Russian aid offer fires, but there may indeed not be a war trigger check as part of the overall trigger, as the scripter assumes AUS will still be at war - of course prior to the changes in how alliance leader worked with Revoltions that was a very safe bet to make, now it's not 100% guaranteed as you found out.

growth rate goes negative when either

1) the life rating of a province dips drastically for a period - usually that is by event though.

2) pops can not afford to buy even basic life needs, and thus are literally being starved to death

3) pops are emigrating because they find conditions in other countries more appealing than conditions currently in your country

watch your total population numbers for a month on the main interface - if you notice you are losing a few K every few days, most likely you have POPs emigration out of your nation. If however the POP is declining only at the start of each month, then it is most likely #2 if you did not have any events that were to cause life ratings for a province or state decline by a specific amount for a period.

If the problem is #2, cut taxes and tariffs, increase exports, and make sure your POPs are able to buy their life needs.

If the problem is #3, look at your political and social reforms, tax and tariff rates, level of plurality and make your place more inviting for people to want to stay.

aahh I see. I have been overtaxing them to make them socialists and didnt think it had any negative consequences, but I see now that it does.
This should be mentioned somewhere in the vickywiki since it does not appear in any anything I have read so far.

Thanks for your help, OHgamer

So much for that -- virtually no difference in rate of building PDs. I need to go see how rich in steamers, cash, etc. everyone is.

1899 -- France and GB are near 100 PDs each. plus 75 PCs each.

Now 1911 and GB yet to build a DN or BC, still has 91 PDNs and 60 PCs. So it is satisfied with its navy, despite not being most modern. Usually AI builds most modern ships, so this is interesting. Curious if others have had this happen, or if it has to do with me raising the price (I went pretty high on DNs and up).

USA has 5 DNs now and is building 7 more -- so they are still doable -- of course USA has no PDNs, so it "feels" the need for more of a navy.

See what happens after 1919 - that is when the "postwar" AIs kick in for the major nations and for some there is a change in the target naval size and composition of naval types, which may very well lead to ENG building whatever the latest ships are at the time the AI file changes.

Roughly : The French are around Geneva and along Lake Geneva, the Italians are in the Ticino (Bellinzona province) and the rest is primarily German-speaking.

Guadalupe Hidalgo/Gadson Purchase (and other US Issues)

So do these events not exist in VIP?

I had the mexican american war as usual, and stomped the mexicans quite quickly, and grabbed the rest of texas + the two california provinces that aren't normally sceded by the Guadalupe Hidalgo treaty. So I'm sitting here waiting for the treaty to fire.... and nothing happens.

I figure it might just take a bit of time, so I wait. 1850 rolls around, and still no event... I figure something is broken, but I let the game go a few more years. Time passes by when the Gadson Purchase should have occured (1853), and still no Guadalupe Hidalgo, and also no gadson purchase. What gives?

Also, the event that fires that costs you $15,000 + life sustanability hit OR a factory destroyed in new york needs to be seriously altered. I had it fire on me 8 times through 1854- after the second I just started cheating the money back in because it was getting ridiculous. Sadly I don't remember this event name, but man was it pissing me off.

Another random thing, I think the % chance for britain to accept the 54th parallel in the oregon treaty should be changed. I chose the 54th because they were at war with france and austria over morocco, and figured they would be busy so I could fight the war without an issue. To my surprise- they accepted without the war, and did so on my 3 reloads testing (i had happened to save just prior to the event firing and was curious).

Finally, the assimilation rates are game breakingly bad at the start. I'm guessing this is because of the whigs slavery party, but all my immigrants are in stacks so large they dont assimilate- new york is now 20% german and rising, and any new immigrants simply join the large german or irish stacks. Even once I get the repubs in power for the civil war, the damage has already been done, there is no way to assimilate stacks that large (i have 6 different german stacks N. & S, of both major religions, both laborer & craftsmen, all above 10k in size, and 2 irish >10k) and all future immigrants will just join those large stacks and refuse to assimilate, and since no mainstream us party has full citizenship, my economy is going to be pretty screwed for the rest of the game, especially since I can't seem to get california from my initial problem. And even with all that german immigration coming in, my pop growth is still lagging the historical numbers, although that's a relatively minor issue compared to the assimilation.

Not sure why G-H is not firing in your case, so long as you control one of the three East Texas provinces, TEX does not exist, you win war with MEX, and MEX has at least one province north of the current border (bar Tucson) it should fire.

Gadsden won't fire unless G-H fires, so not surprised it has not yet fired.

Can you post a screenie of what the current geopolitical situation is, will help me see where there might be problems.

On Oregon, it's hard to say what the British would have done in the case of Oregon. 50% accept 54-40 was what the event designer decided to put in. Whether it should be lower is up for debate.

As for the event with the factory being destroyed. It's completely random and hardcoded into the game.

What might be the cause of both this and the G-H issue though, is your gamespeed. What gamespeed are you playing at. We recommend playing at no faster than above-average and saving & reloading the game at least once every two years. The Victoria game engine was designed with low specs for RAM and processing (being designed in 2002 and released in 2003, when the average home computer was much less powerful than today), and the sheer volume of data VIP adds for the game engine to number crunch each day increases the chance that data will be skipped, including event triggers and effects. Playing at moderate speeds puts less strain on the game engine, while saving and reloading helps "clear" the engine and has it read all events with date starts before the start date again so that those that have valid triggers and have already started their time of being valid events have a much greater chance of firing.

Re assimilation - nothing we can do about it, that is hardcoded in the game engine. To increase the rate, have parties that are full citizenship in power and have high plurality. In the end though there is nothing we can do in VIP to alter assimilation rates, though from our experience most players complain that assimiation runs too fast more often than too slow, so you got the odd-man out experience in this.

Would good relations and higher prestige with the norwegians help, or is the norwegian bit just random?
I don't believe so, although I don't claim to know the complete inner workings of the Victoria engine (executable).

It's all about how an AI nation makes a decision in the game. Events that have more than one choice work this way for the AI. We will work with a two option event to keep things simple.

OPTION PERCENTAGE
Option A = 94.4%
Option B = 5.6%

The historical choice is always option A. The ahistorical choice is always NOT A. So, IF the Scandinavian event were only a two option event, then there would be only a 5.6% chance of the event firing. I haven't look up the event for forming Scandinavia, so this is way over-simplified. I believe there are multiple events that have to take place to actually form Scandinavia.

A three-option event would break down this way.

Option A = 89.4%
Option B = 5.3
Option C = 5.3

Four Option:

Option A = 85%
Option B = 5
Option C = 5
Option D = 5

And I got all this information from VickyWiki. :D

it would definitely be VIP with that event.

Do you have the hotfixes installed, they fix the problem with the Fante Bond event that causes the crashes.

While I'm still asking questions,

Does anyone know where I could turn algeria into a accepted state? I mean cheating technically. I feel the event that turned other cultures into french fired at a really unfair moment and that if it hadn't I would have gotten french as a primary culture.

My selective emigration program had hardly had time to do it's job and so on.

So if there is a "algeria = state" thing I could put somewhere, please let me know.

will need to look at the chains to figure this out. The prestige loss is automatic, and in the end French intervention is ahistorical, so there is less need to balance prestige since the mod is designed with an eye to encourage historical behavior, not ahistorical. France promised in the earlier event to uphold the agreement to resolve the issue peacefully, if it then chooses to back the Egyptians against the British and Turks again after having already agreed to a cease fire, it should suffer the consequences.

Not sure which event you mean by converting pops into French???? What was the name of the event?

And to make algeria a state, before you start the game change the listing in the .inc file for France's colonies so that the algeria section say colony = no instead of colony = yes

Will do OH -- I also went in and scrapped about 25 PDs for GB to see if it would trigger a new building frenzy.....we shall see.

So will "The U" win the championship?
