What's the point of taking provinces from RUS if you're BR or FRA? To get a few extra fish? I don't see any repurcussions further down the line if you declare war, send some of your fleet and get a WP. Am I right?

A quick question, if you please:

Obviously I'm new to VIP, and I'm trying to avoid the Liberal Revolution (playing first game as UK - just sitting back as a superpower & watching and learning all the new events, etc). I open the event file, and I honestly can't figure out what the conditions are (WAY too many and's... or's... but not's... it's confusing - it's like brackets gone wild).

So, in VIP is it any different than what the Vicky Wiki says?...

Vicky Wiki said:
Can I avoid the Liberal Revolution?

Yes; again, most historical events are avoidable in Victoria depending on what choices you make. As of 1.03, the Liberal Revolution can be entirely avoided in several ways:

* You have an (anarcho-)liberal government in power.
* You are a democracy.
* You allow "socialist" or "all" trade unions.
* You have voting rights set to "wealth" or "suffrage".
* Your press rights aren't "state press only" AND your party rights aren't "none allowed".

As long as you have at least one of these conditions met, you won't get the revolution. At the very least, try to avoid the liberal revolution till Feb 21st 1850, since that's the earliest date that the event that ends it will fire.

But be aware that, if you are playing as Prussia, there is a nasty Counterrevolution event that will fire if you have converted Prussia into anything other than a pure monarchy. Unlike the Liberal Revolution, the Counterrevolution does not have an end date where the Militancy and Consciousness settings revert to their original levels, though the event itself cannot occur after 1851.

-So, does that all apply to VIP?

russia needs to be defeated, not just white peaced, for the event chains to kick in.

However, defeat is scripted based on the number of provinces Russia loses control of during the course of the war, so if you play ENG or FRA you do not have to take provinces to get the event chain to work.

At the same time, a piece of land in the Baltic or Black Sea could become a base from which to ensure Big Green can be kept in its cage, so in a geostrategic sense getting a bit of land as ENG or FRA in the region *might* make sense, though personally I agree with you that economically it doesn't.

Not that geostrategic sense and economic sense very often go together in the world of international politics. ;)

this is the trigger in VIP 0.45

Code:
	trigger = {

		NOT = { local_flag = { name = LIBERAL_REVOLUTION value = 1 } }
	}

basically it comes down to this, you will get the liberal revolution unless

1) you already have liberals or anarcho liberals in power
2) you are a democracy or presidential dictatorship
3) you have one of the following sets of reforms
--- a) socialist unions and either all parties allowed and wealth voting rights
--- b) free press and either all parties allowed and wealth voting rights
--- c) wealth voting rights and either socialist unions or press
--- d) all parties allowed and either socialist unions or press
--- e) all parties allowed, free press, socialist unions and wealth voting rights
4) You have already had the liberal revolution

So a bit different from the listing in vickywiki

The Return of Byantium!

Hey, I placed, a long time ago, a thread about what nations can be unified in VIP. The answers were Mughalistan, Byzantium, Germany, Italy and I think there were a few others. But I'm kinda interested in Byzantium at the moment. How-this is especially for OhGamer-can get the event to unify Byzanitum?

At this point, the trigger is that Greece must control Istanbul, not own, just control.

That begins a chain of events that leads to Greece adopting the Byzantine flag (does not become named Byzantium however)

Ok. What will happen if that occurs? Besides the flag. Any territory granted to Greece?

yes you get a bunch of territory, capital of Greece moves to Istanbul, and if you defeat the Ottomans a second time IIRC you end up making them your satellite in the interior of Anatolia.

Franco-Prussian War Question

What happens if it ends in a stalemate? If I max out my defenses in Alsace and the Prussians can't break through, what happens?

In my own experience, the Prussians give into a white peace as me and my ally Austria invade Berlin and eastern Prussia, to much war exhaustion for them. But, if you just sit there, eventually they might try something and all die, I guess.

Every time I get into a fight with Prussia in the Franco-Prussian war it seems to either go one way or another. One is I sit there and wait it out, using my superior navy and help from Austria to crush their populace's support, or I allow them to break through and frustrate their serge taking provinces behind them.

My question has been, will the Prussians unite at any other time into a weaker version of Germany, maybe a free Bavaria? Why is there a lack of alternative events?

I always fear getting involved in the Austro-Prussian war, would in the end make a much to fierce Austria. Instead of just getting a weakened Prussia, you would have a huge allied state for Austria. I also notice that even after the war the Prussian during don't use the civil war to what they are capable of.

The AI seems to have no direction, or at least priority in taking on the smaller German states, which had been the priority of the real-life Prussia. Its a very logical strategy to, you knock out the small guys and feed off their strength to attack you opponent with double they have. I think Prussia accepts white peace and highly profitable trade offs a little TO early.

Well the popular Whig party (UK) appears to be liberal... that flower thingy with the yellow background says so, thus I'm safe right?

Btw, which is the lesser of the two evils in your opinion; granting free press, or 'all' trade unions?

Also why are those would-be liberal revolutionaries so content with 'wealth' voting rights? Seems counter-intuitive.

WM question I'm still not certain about

I remember this being discussed when the game first came out, but I don't recall ever being clear on this. Scenario: I'm playing the (VIP) GC as the UK, and I'm hoarding machine parts - not a single sell. In fact w/ my prestige, I'm buying anything less than 1k. It's funny watching the years go by, and almost no one else has railroads to speak of.

Anyway, suppose I want to suddenly dump several hundred machine parts on the WM, around the time other nations are finally starting to produce them. This is a 2-part question:

1) When I sell all at once, I get the price posted THAT day, not the higher price from the day before right? So I get less money. But definitely you get the NEW/updated price, not the other one that had just been there...?

2) The reason I'm dumping them all at once, is so that -hopefully- it'll trickle down right to El Salvador (or whatever), so all my main rivals will get minimal parts due to their prestige, because their 'buy orders' will all be filled, so it'll all keep getting passed off to the little guys, and their orders get filled. Effectively, all the major powers are hurt by this, as opposed to gently rationing 1 or 2 parts every day... where all the big dogs constantly get them.

So, is my understanding right on all this? Also, does the VIP mod change any of this WM functioning? I wouldn't think so, but I need to ask...

But just to be clear, I do get the lower price, yes? Btw, is this a reasonable strategy? By my reckoning, it's better to hurt the industrialization of the other major powers, and maintain my edge - at all costs.

edit: thanks^

Since this is 0.45 it's hard to say which is lesse of two evils, as we've changed the impact in VIP:R 0.1. Probably would say free press is the lesser of two evils, but both will cause some increase militancy among upper class, and decrease militancy among lower class.

And as I didn't script this version of the Lib Rev, I can't say for certain why wealth was chosen. Perhaps because in places like England where voting rights were at the wealth level you did not have a Lib Revolution, same with Belgium and Netherlands.
