I think you get an honorable mention somewhere in the tail end of some obscure configuration file.

I think Russian AI should be modified a bit so it wouldn’t attack Norway in almost all games. At the moment it looks like Russian-Norwegian war is scripted.

all countries are "free" - this is just the first step in a long term process. We do want testers though who are willing to play more than just one or two nations, but actually try out nations they may not be so familiar with, since this will give us a good idea as to whether things are set up to make it too hard for the newer player.

I'm sorry. I get frustrated too quick unless i use the money and resource cheat. I never can seem to balance my economy. I will not respond anymore in this thread because it will be considered spam and I will see pink (and suprisingly uplifting :D ) writing. I'll just go spam some other thread then!!! Definetely joking....

Or if I can play as one of the "majors" that have an easy economy. But I'm also afraid I'm not very good with commitments, that is why I always seem to be single... :eek:o Ok, I'm done.

Big Spenders

I am playing Austria in VIP: Rev and got to 1898. For about 10 years now my capitalists don`t invest any more. I checked and they usually have only about #80 - 90. So I lowered taxes and tariffs for them... but still. (I have a laissez-faire government in charge, of course). I tink this all started with the introduction of phones and cars. Is it possible that they simply spend all their money for luxury goods? )like first generation builds up a company, second keeps it, and third loses it)

well its quite simple you have researched too many commercial and industrial techs too fast. Techs from those categories increase the ammount of goods that pop need, plus at that point new luxury goods become avilable (like cars telephones etc.) but in very small ammounts which means they are very expensive for capis to buy which translates to no money for factory or rail building. What you could try is to totaly cut the tarrifs as they make things even more expensive for pops to buy, or just wait as things should be better in about 10 years.

Have you tried putting an exception in the alliance. At the start of a grand campaign I find I can't make a country join an alliance unless I put an exception in!!! Then later in the game I can form alliances with ease and I don't need an exception

Yes, especially if your economic growth does not keep pace with the rate you research commerce and industry techs, as POP need amounts increase with each additional tech researched. Since your Capi income is hovering in the mid-80s it means it is building reserves, but the cost of the luxury goods puts them below 100 so the never accumulate reserves enough to be able to build factories. In the end, capis build factories only if they can build reserve income after buying all their needs, including all their lux needs.

If you are producing automobiles, stop producing and exporting them and see if that allows your capis to break the loop they are in. Remember, your POPs get first dibs on goods your nation exports, so if you are producing autos your capis get the first chance to buy from the amounts you export. If that does indeed break the cycle, what you'll need to do is keep the auto factory closed and focus on economic growth (let capis buidl more factories and railways or install a government that lets you do it, split any RGO or factory POPs over 40K to increase production). At the end of the day, export income is what determines POP income, and it sounds like the capis are not making enough income to cover their luxury needs and build factories/railways. Cut off their supply of expensive lux goods (automobiles are VERY expensive at the start of the game), grow the overall national income, and in a few years hopefully the income capis make will be big enough to cover both their purchases of cars AND build reserves.

what in particular is not working - last time i tested things with all the majors AI controlled they seemed to work out.

Of course if the AI makes an ahistorical choice along the way, it might not work out 100% each time.

Ok. I don't know what you expect as "official source", so here are a few links:
Here is a good place to start:
(official governement presentation of NOWADAYS french languages minorities)
http://www.culture.gouv.fr/culture/dglf/lgfrance/lgfrance_presentation.htm

As of numbers & historical studies, I found nothing yet in english besides wiki; so here are the links to the main minorities:

Overview:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Languages_of_France

Individuals articles:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breton_language
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basque_people
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_Flemish
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_Catalonia

If you really need something else, I can digg a little more.

Hope this helps,

Slavery in the American South and VIP

I have been playing the VIPR mod for a couple of weeks playing a couple of GC's as the USA I just keep playing them over and over because I'm reading about the USA in the time period of the game. I was wondering where the demographics for the slaves come into play in the mod and the game in general. It seems like the south has far less slaves than they historically had. Is this a gaming balance issue? For Example Alabama had 119,000 slaves in 1830 but in Victoria there are only something like 38,000 slaves in Alabama not counting the Cherokee province in the north. In 1840 there were 256,000 slaves in Alabama. Do the Pop's represent actual population figures? Or is it all the male population? Or is it just a game balance issue that determines the size of the slave pops in a province? And if you need figures for slave populations in the South I can give these I have a chart that shows all the numbers. I was gonna post this in the V.I.P. America folder but it has dissapeared from the VIP forum front page.
