Political manipulation

Ok quick question. How does one manipulte the pops to push them into the political realm one wants them? I know for example you can tax the hades out of the lower classes and remove some political reforms to push them socialist. However, how does one push the pops towards communism, fascism etc?

Communism is just socialism with higher militancy. If you can appoint ruling parties, do that a few times once you have socialists and there you go. Soldiers and officers are natural fascists late game, don't know if anyone else can actually become fascist, but if you put them in power they take away voting rights any way. If they need to be voted into power, either their issues need to be very popular ones (pick issues in preference to parties) or their opponents must be very fragmented. Either that, or you could just mobilize your troops and then hold an election, that could work. I always try to keep these crazies away from my people, so I can't really offer more specific advice than this.

Support for fascism rises if one of your core provinces is under the ownership of another nation - simulating an "irredenta". In fact there is a random event in V:R that fires adding new random border-province cores for nations to help stimulate this further. Haven't really played around with it much for VIP, since we're really not at that point of the game in terms of the overall mod development, but in the future that is something we'll probably work with more (removing the chance for the event to fire for those nations that did not have significant fascist movements, for ex)

Lost a Thread

I could have sworn it was in this forum... but I can't seem to find it.

Someone was talking about the correct order to install VIP, along with Vicky and Ricky, and someone mentioned the versions being weird.

When I install Ricky via CD, it doesn't say I have version 2.00, it says I still have 1.04. I thought the CD was supposed to have 2.00 on it. The old patch isn't around anymore, so I can't apply it.

I did just go on my merry way and install the hotfixes from OHGamer, and then on to VIP, but my version is still stuck at 1.04. So far, it hasn't caused problems, so I assumed nothing was wrong.
But I can't find that thread anymore, so I don't know if anyone replied telling me what was wrong with my version number.

check in the upper right corner of the first menu screen after the game loads (the one which has you choose single player/multi player.) it should say, in small and somewhat difficult to read red print, Victoria 2.01

but if you are not having any issues then you should be allright.

How to unsattelite a nation?

I'm playing a game as the USA Ricky:VIP. My goal was to take the Monroe-Doctrine all the way and clear the America's and Pacifica of all European influence. At the moment I have conquered or bought all of the European territories in America and satellited most of the Southern Amercian nations. I choose war in the Oregon Territory dispute, and satellited Canada before I made peace with the British (later I found out that this way I missed an event that gave me most of Canada :( ). I even released Quebec to give my American empire a little bit of a Harry Turtledove feel (Roll out the barrel, whoohoo).

My problem is that now the only British Satellite left in America is the Creek-nation of central Canada, and I have cores on them because of the "Fifty-Four Forty or Fight" event. Monroe was turning in his grave and the groundskeeper started complaining so I decided that I had to take the Creek nation (it also looks way better with those provinces in a nice shade of blue. The problem is that every time i DOW them, naturally the Brits come to their aid, but after a couple of days I automatically make peace with the Creeks. This is probably to protect satellited uncivs in the beginning of the game to keep things historically correct, but at the moment it's a nuisance. Is there a way to stop this? Can I unstatellite the Creek Nation someway(without cheats), for example by satelliting the UK?

Moved, as this is a VIP Question (Cree don't exists in base Victoria, which is what threads in the main forum are for)

Because of the nature of how the satellliting system works, there are events for the various non-civilized satellites of nations to "peace out" on the outbreak of war between their satellite masters and another nation, as for the most part these kinds of wars did not involve the native peoples fighting for their satellite master.

Here though, since you are playing a highly ahistorical route that we have not envisioned, the events are trapping you in a circle. Best thing to do would be to edit your savegame file to remove the Cree (tag MTC) from being a satellite of ENG, then DoW the Cree who will now have no allies.

We do our best at VIP to cover as many angles as possible, but the highly ahistorical lines like the USA conquering all the Americas have not been worked on yet. In general the more ahistorical you play your nation in VIP, the more chance events will cause problems since they are not designed for ahistorical play, but more generally historical play.

Okay, thank you for the information. It's true off course that VIP is meant to be played more historically (although it also offers a lot of a-historical possibilities in events) but sometimes I get a little bit carried away, I guess. I'm sorry for posting in the wrong forum, I will look for it next time.

But one of my questions still stands: When you satellite a nation (and that way decide over its foreign policy) does it keep its satellites?

I have just satellited British India and they didn't lose their unciv satellites. They event-allied back to the UK next day and joined the war against me again. Great way to take them appart, just conquer them, take land + satellite and then they automatically join the war next day.

REligion of Wurttemberg accurate?

in the Victoria Improvement Project, the religion of Wurttemberg (WUR) is set as catholic. however, ever source I can find points to the state religion being protestant. is this an error on VIP's part, or am I mistaken?

The region is predominantly Catholic AFAIK in this period, but Panzerschreck might be the person to confirm, as he's our German expert.

Bug?

I annexed Krakow by doing nothing (playing austria R:VIP + Hotfixes). They got an invent called something like: we can't stand against the austrian army in the austrian army enters the city.
It just happened, I haven't had a single regiment near krakow.

I thought there was a lead-in event for AUS to choose to take over Krakow, but one of the choices for Krakow is to accept Austrian takeover, rather than resist.

Austria did annex Krakow in 1846, so that is historical.
