Japan, march 1868.
I am, thanks to my massive insutrialisation (ind score 305) a great power. I am also uncivilised, and I am also the vassal of the dutch, as I accepted their letter and opened up my ports. Now, two post-Meji events (shinto, and Edo as capital) have fired, yet, there is not a single sign of Meji itself firing.

WAD?

IIRC Yes.

With VIP:R there was a reworking of the events building up to the Meiji Restoration. If you choose the ahistoric route, accepting the Dutch letter, you sleep that chain and have to civilize on your own without the Meiji events.

Keep in mind that the requirements to civilize have also changed in VIP:R - it's no longer simply having ceratain scores, but also having a group of specific techs and inventions discovered. See post #10 in this thread for the specifics.

I've had a similar even come up. Been playing a GC with US and I'm in year 1861. I have to say I'm doing far better then the first time I tried this however Texas never offered to join me and naturally I've not gone to war with mexico due to event either, although california joined up nice and early.

I think mine might be due to events firing that gave me massive low relations with texas that I never thought to alter as I assumed that texas went to join me per event no matter what. I say those smuggelers I caught really helped finacially though.

Also he civil war hasn't started yet but the whigs are still in power so I assume that might be a factor as well. I think I might roll a new game and see if I can't sort some of this out.

If you did not get Texas that is going to likely make the Civil War much less likely to happen as the events surrounding the annexation of Texas are a key to setting up the triggers for the Civil War to fire. You might still have it when the Republicans come in though.

For those who have VIP for Revolutions, hotfix 3 includes a new event to fracture the Whigs once the Republicans are created, which most often results in the Whigs (or Rump Whigs as they become) losing the next election to the Republicans.

normal/normal difficulty

UK ships are not outdated, at least most of them. They build a couple millions of them in the recent years...

Only GER and UK are like this... others are somewhat OK
GER spends over 5000 gold per day for land units maintains!

IIRC natives produce 0.1 MIL score, so you'd need 60 divisions if you based it just on natives.

Lazy capitalists

Hi!
I'm playing as Spain in the VIP scenario for Revolutions. The problem I have is that my capitalists are not doing anything for their country. At first I managed to turn around 3-4% of the population of each state into capitalists and they started building factories and railroads like crazy. However I noticed they stopped building factories, and then once I researched early railroad they no longer upgraded the existing railroad network, so I'm underdeveloped in 1880 with a laissez faire government and an experimental railroad network and no modern factories. Taxes for the three groups are 20%, tariffs as high as I can (with a free trade government), voting rights are set to wealth (though I changed it to universal to see if there was any difference and nothing happened), workers have no social rights... What is happening? What can I do?

Capitalist need money to build things, and as the game progresses and you research more of the industry and economy techs their goods need rises. Since they will spend all their income to acquire their goods first, if you're taxing/tariffing them to high they will never be able to save enough money to build anything, especially if your economy is stagant from lack of development while their needs keep increasing.

Try lowering tariffs and rich taxes down to zero, and observe one of your capitalist pops to see what their daily income is.

That isn't tons... capitalist usually need at least 2,000 reserves to build anything and by end game sometimes they can have over 99,000.

In capi building, there is both the base cost plus the cost of inputs to consider. In VIP:R 0.1 for L-F the base cost starts at 650, but rises with each new factory that is built by 5 per new factory. Then factor in the cost of the railway inputs and you are looking at the start for level one rails of about 1150-1500 in reserves for capis to start building. I'm not exactly sure how the increase in rail level works into this, but I do think it does raise the amount of reserves needed, so my guess is you'll need somewhere in the low 2000 range of reserves for your capis to start building railways again. And it may very well be that the game engine is having them focus on factories now that you have level 1 rail in place, and that may mean you may not see rails for a while as the capis build various factories it perceives would be more beneficial to your economy.

Out of curiosity, what are the triggers for texas joining the union and when should they fire. I don't know how to read the code in the txt files or I would do so. : ) I know most of the time it leads to war with mexico which works for me since that means money from them.

Texas must exist
US must not be at war with anyone
Relations with TEX must be >0
texas can not be a satellite or dominion

event can fire between 1 Feb 1846 and 30 Dec 1847. In VIP 0.45 for 1.4 there is a 90 day offset, so the event will be checked approximately 7 times before it dies to see if triggers are all met.

I was wondering why it is only possible to play VIP:R as singleplayer? Is it possible to make it work in multiplayer as well?

We have not tested it in multiplayer, and with all the events, new nations and AI switches the time lag issues for multiplayer will be severe, but to play multiplayer check out this Post and follow the directions.

Again though, we do not really recommend playing VIP multiplayer and have not tested it at all.

I have tested it with 3 players (lan) And that worked exelent.

That is good to know. Though aren't LAN networks ones where you are in the same immediate vicinity? I'd be a bit more worried about games where one person is playing in the US and the other in Europe - that indeed might cause some issues with lag due to the amount of data in VIP
