Yes, probably it would have a 1:30 or 1:60 chance of firing. But what is this flag doing there? If no country has this flag, the event will never fire...

I think an option for radical / moderate modernization is a good idea, particularly for newly or backward civilized countries, similarly to the existing events of japan or persia...

Should the potato famine events for Ireland really permanently modify life expectancy in Irish provinces? The events say it is a permanent reduction...

Historically the Shogunate lost almost every single battle in the Civil War, so it's no surprise that they loss so quickly in VIP, ready my AAR if you want to know more.

Right off the bat I tried a game as Austria. After my crippling defeat, I took another stab at it only to do marginally better.

From what I can tell the VIP events mostly just added lots of militancy, no matter what.

Ethnic minorities just revolt. Even with a liberal, full citizenship government with full political freedoms, and a few social reforms.

I liberalize enough to avoid the liberal revolutions, but then all the ethnic minorities that are reactionary start rioting over the fact that they have been given the vote.

That's after the events to raise militancy of course. The first 5-10 years is pretty peachy.

As Austria, is there any way to get militancy down without just editing out half the events that VIP added? Sure Austria had its problem with rioting minorities, but you'd think my liberalizing would help that issue. I figured giving them the vote would calm them down a bit.

Where are the events for State support of industries located? Yesterday I tried find them to manually activate the artillery one (it popped in the worst place and I unavertantly rejected it), but I was unable to find them.

They are in the file VIPscen/events/VIP_FactoryBuild.txt

I tried to expand my already existing factories rather then gathering new ones, but obviously this "gain_building" command only works for provs which don't already contain such type of factory...?!

Can't find any reference to this in the thread - apologies if I have missed it and it has already been answered.

I have been playing VIP:R since it arrived and generally all is well. The only problem I have is that sometimes when I start up, the game tells me that it cannot find a number of eug files and aborts out. Sure enough, if I check the \VIP\scenarios\VIPscen\eugs folder, several of the files have disappeared. I have to reinstall VIP before I can play. This doesn't happen every time and is not a disaster as the reinstall only takes a couple of minutes, but it seems curious. Has anyone else experienced this? Any explanation / solutions?

Or is it just me?

Not sure if someone has pointed this out yet. Playing as Japan I noticed some of the conservative parties has Laissez-fare as their War stance. Looked in the party file:

NIP;12602;Genro;1868;1900;conservative;interventionism;protectionism;moralism;residence;pro-military;japanese;all;x

instead of "pro-military" it should be "pro_military". This error is also on two other parties for Japan. I haven't seen the typo pop up anywhere else yet.

Not really a big deal but this event's description is displayed in-game as EVT141003D:
Code:
################################################################################
# War of Bolivian-Peruvian confederation by erwan ar skoul, modified by Scythe#
################################################################################
event = {
	id = 138003
	random = no
	country = CHL

	name = "EVT107001N"
	desc = "EVT141003D"
	style = 0

	date = { day = 28 month = december year = 1836 }
	offset = 5
	deathdate = { day = 30 month = december year = 1846 }

	action_a = {
		name = "ACTWAR"
		command = { type = war which = BOL }
		command = { type = prestige value = 20 }
		command = {type = gain_tech which = 1402}
		ai_chance = 97
	}
	action_b = {
		name = "ACTNOWAR"
		command = { type = relation which = BOL value = 100 }
		command = { type = prestige value = -10 }
		command = { type = sleepevent which = 138008 }
		ai_chance = 3
	}
}
There is no such entry in the text files, while EVT138003D would make perfect sense:

EVT138003D;The formation of a confederation between Peru and Bolivia is seen by many of our advisors as a threat to Chile's independence by creating a potentially more powerful neighbor on our borders. Some of our advisors call for us to intervene militarily to break up this new confederation.;;;;;;;;;;X,

Sorry if this has already been reported.

Note that you do not get pushed back to Hokkaido if you can hold a front around Edo/Tokyo

Code:
		war = { country = NIP country = TRE }
		control = { province = 1641 data = TRE } # Fukushima
		or = {
			control = { province = 1644 data = NIP } # Kanagawa
			control = { province = 1642 data = NIP } # Mito
			control = { province = 1645 data = NIP } # Urawa
			control = { province = 1643 data = NIP } # Edo
		}

So long as you maintain control of those 4 provinces you have the ability to keep hold of the North half on Honshu.

So the goal as Tokugawa is hold the area around Tokyo and hope you can wear down the Meiji usurpers.

I am wondering: is the "normal/normal" setting wise?
I mean, I does not like seeing the map going messy... The XIX wasn't that much wary. In my game with Peru, Germany and Austria cannot repress themselves to attack Russia or Netherlands.
Well, no problem if the alliances system in Europe was even a little bit developped (just an French defense pact with Russia). But presently, They are grapping provinces without any reaction regulary, and all that sort of things.

If we are to have a good war, let's do it the way it happened: a full european/world war between great powers. Not the small limited that I saw in these game.
Hope I was unlucky with that GC.

One of the goals of upcoming versions of VIP will be to develop the alliance system further so that you can get the historical lineups in the alliances, which should reduce (with further AI scripting, as I've done for GER relations with HOL for the next hotfix) these unscripted wars further.

If not normal/normal, what would you play at? Harder aggression would make it more likely unscripted wars would break out. Are you suggesting play at less than normal/normal??

The Austria events could probably use an overhaul to make the triggers a bit more specific, so that if you democratize you do not get the MIL hits (though you should still get some, as the idea the various minorities would remain happy within a broad confederation, even democratic, is questionable. But that is a discussion for the regional thread).

Like i've said, this mod is constantly evolving.

Where are the events for State support of industries located? Yesterday I tried find them to manually activate the artillery one (it popped in the worst place and I unavertantly rejected it), but I was unable to find them.

Not sure if someone has pointed this out yet. Playing as Japan I noticed some of the conservative parties has Laissez-fare as their War stance. Looked in the party file:

instead of "pro-military" it should be "pro_military". This error is also on two other parties for Japan. I haven't seen the typo pop up anywhere else yet.

Thanks will fix
