Argh is the Search function lost again ? ...
OK I haven't seen any complaints about Portuguese occupation of rightfully Herero territory yet, so I will do what I need to do ...

While there are peace treatys between the African Tribal states and the foreign powers Herero to prevent a-historical and unrealistic "colonialization" of certain areas Herero is strangely missing the Peace treaty with Portugal and in 3 of 3 games I have seen Portugal taking not only Herero but making moves into Belgian Congo as well. After taking a look at the event files I can't see any events to regulate such AI behaviour to give Herero territory from Portugal to Germany and such so I have come to the conclusion that the missing peace treaty(s) is/are a bug.

I recomend: Take alook at ALL treatys between tribal states and colonial powers and edit in possible missing peace treatys like that between Herero and Portugal.

Just checked - the treaty is there - it lasts until May 1885.

Code:
treaty = {
        id = { type = 4712 id = 1001063 }
        type = peace
        country = "POR"
        country = "ORI"
        continent = 0
        startdate = { year = 1836 month = january day = 1 }
         expirydate = { year = 1885 month = may day = 1 }
}

Does not mean that players or the AI will 100% honor the treaties, they can be broken just as any other treaty, with an extra -100 prestige hit of course.

AI in general do not break them, but could be that since POR borders Herero they decide to take it out anyways. I'll check the AI files to make sure that Herero is not on POR's combat list and, if it is, will remove it.

Just finished my sweden - scandinavia game and a few more things have appeared
1) could you copy the swedish factory events (the ones which allow you to buy factories) for scandinavia?? As of now scandinavia doesnt get them at all which is a big handicap especially when you take goods like tanks and airplanes into consideration.
2) copying russian event 251943 which makes it move its capitol so that it fires for scandinavia too
3) as i have noticed France tends to make a gigantic army early in the game and then keep it which is a drag too its economy. In my game it had about 180 divisions in 1910 even though it wasnt fighting any wars since 1871.

1 - forgot about scandinavia :eek:o

2 - will check that

3 - AI unfortunately does not dot disband armies or reduce amount of soldier POPs, and its not something we can control via VIP except perhaps by hardcoding lower target number of units in the AI files, and even then it is not guaranteed to remain at those levels if it feels threatened by other nations.

I see US events 304292 and 304293 for example. They are impossible & unnecessary if Apache exist. I think there's a lot of events in the same case.

Not impossible since MEX does own the California coast - just needs to have the triggers fixed.

And when you get a mod made by multiple people over several years, there are going to be inconsistencies and events that may have worked in earlier editions but not in later versions due to changes that were missed.

Like I've said before, VIP is not a finished mod, but one that constantly evolves and improves, and it's by feedback from players like this that we make it better.

Still my game with Monarchist Peru. :D
Regarding Europe: all went quite fine, except that Romania was annexed by KuK. Well, they choose the wrong side of war.
What bother me more is that Germany is awfully agressive toward netherlands! A war break out almost every five years and now, 1902, Netherlands are a city-state with an holding in west indies!

Some tweak to do in AI?
Or may be "agressivity = normal" is too much?

hmm haven't seen GER be aggressive to HOL, in fact IIRc they have preferences to be friendly toward HOL, not attack it.

Did HOL go to war with GER earlier?

No.
Germany suddendly attacked her late in the 70's. Then, regulary.
There had been also a German vs KuK war, but it was Italy that triggered it. :D

I don't think there was any conflict in the 1870ies and later on between HOL and GER until WWI, and then of course WWII. Which conflict you are referring to, Emp_Palpatine?

After the Napoleonic Wars 1815 there were some diplomatic border adjustments in the regions of Kleve and Geldern (shifting the border at maximum 20 km eastwards, mostly less, so not suitable for simulation in Vicky).

Actually, after 1870/71 GER didn't participate in a military conflict until WWI, if you exclude the colonial campaign in South-West Africa and the Boxer rebellion in China. So IMHO one can't speak of regular conflicts between HOL and GER.

.

Not a scripted war - the AI just attacked HOL. It's not completely possible to eliminate random DoW's by AI countries against other AI nations, they still happen on occasion.

Another problem, in the same game i got the bug with Hungary (it's is really a bug, not a b option, there's a thread explaining how that happens in the VIP forums).
May bugdet shows i'm gaining about $55 but my treasure is actually decreasing, it's happening for a lot of time, it has nothing to do with closing hte budget menu because i did it a lot of times and even reloaded the game a couple o times and it's still happening, what could that be?

Random Events

With the ever-growing sophistication of triggers for events, I think it's important to emphasize that random events only occur when the situation merits. For example, the below event:
Code:
######################################################################
# The Brain drain by MrOuija(Modified by Tyrel68)
######################################################################
event = {
	id = 399002
	random = yes
	show = yes
	invention = no
	picture = 554

	trigger = {
		is_GP = yes
	}

	name = "EVT399002N"
	desc = "EVT399002D"
	style = 0

	action_a = {
		name = "ACT399002A"
		command = { type = research_points value = -10 }
	}
}
The only trigger is being a Great Power. The description of the event talks of scientists leaving because of emigration. Why is being a Great Power going to drive scientists away? Some would say it encourages them to stay, especially in the case of Germany or the USA. I think this should be tweaked to technologies or radical government forms - as it stands the trigger is far too broad.

You know, I was thinking about this myself earlier today. The "Random" events seem like a real good place for me to get back into actual VIC scripting, anyway...

There can be several reasons: An economic downturn, a repressive government, or just nationalistic reasons (Imagine Isreal being formed and important Jewish scientists moving to their beloved new homecountry instead)
it would be hard to check all these possible reasons but in general you are right

Yeah those randoms were made a long while ago, probably could use an overhaul with triggers.

Socialists and VIP:R

I am playing as Belgium with all the latest updates. Its 1854 and there are no Socialist/Communist Parties. Is this on purpose? And when will the socialist parties be enabled?

My concern was actually that after Belgian revolution, the netherlands had quite a peacefull history in Europe... But in my game, Germany can't stand them and keeps attacking. What bother me most, but it's more an AI issue, is that nobody move. Nobody seeks to make alliance with Netherlands or try to stop German expansionism.
And Netherlands doesn't seek any alliance. If I were a country in Europe, I would have made a defensive alliance by the time of German unification... Or I would have supported them in the very first war (especially if I were France or Britain).

Ohps, know I got your point. I misinterpreted your post. :eek:o

In some older versions of Vicky vanilla (IIRC, pre 1.03) you could observe AI-Denmark constantly making an alliance with Russia. In a way it was annoying, depending on the country you played. But maybe the AI was more active at that time? Although I cannot recall HOL being in an alliance back then.

Maybe it would help the AI to give HOL a guarantee by some contry like UK?
