I think as someone already mentioned - it's possible but very, very, very unlikely ALL the German minors, Prussia and Austria will be Con-Mons or Dems.
It didn't happen historically either, so there you go.

Other than letting them get 'swamped' in the Liberal Revolutin (i.e., not sending your troops to put down the revolts) - there's not much you can do.

In my experience it's ususally Baden and 3 or 4 of the smaller minors that turns C-M or Dem by 1851.

Disappearing "Open Negotiations" button?

I'm not certain whether this is a VIP bug, a general Victoria bug, or just a feature I don't know about, so bear with me if I'm asking in the wrong place.

I'm playing as Siam, running VIP 0.4b. In two separate games, sometime in the late 1840s the "Open Negotiations" button has disappeared from the diplomacy tab - it's not grayed out, it's simply missing. This doesn't seem to happen with other countries. Does anyone know what might cause this?

If you have negative prestige, you cannot open negotiations = you do not see that button ;)

As Siam you could have ran into negative prestige..while if playing some stronger country you probably avoided that.
Not a bug :D

Why is Persia blocked from colonizing until 1881?

Why is Persia blocked from colonizing until 1881? Everyone else starts two years earlier, and a few weeks after they start there are no coastal colonies left anyway. Is there a historical reason for treating Persia differently (in effect preventing it having oversaes colonies unless it goes to war) or is this just an oversight by the modders?

In the development process for the colony ban system it was decided to give a slight head start to those nations that were historical colonizers, and to have non-historical colonizers held back for an additional two years. this is therefore a WAD for VIP.

satellite

I think that satellising a country should change his political regime to the same as yours. A democracy that satellite a presidential dictatorship should automatically change the regime to democracy.

That way it could be easier to satellise Austria while Prussia is a comMonarchie or a democracy and so Austria change his regime.

The popular unification would be easier

Austria is a Con Mon in 1836(although i havent checked in VIP this is definitely so in Vanilla(unless i did some editing i can't remember  ))
But usually there fires an event (again i cannot be sure if this is so in VIP), to counterrevolutionise the country and it goes to absolute monarchy.

It's not a con_mon in VIP, Austria had the same type of goverment as Prussia.
The counter revolution happens a bit after the unification event methinks. no need to worry about it.

When all revolutions happens to Austria and the rebels is taking the country they are very likely to become a democracy.
I had the popularunification fire every time I tried it in VIP. Just two games but hey, it worked.

Slight head start? It's an effective colonization ban! A slight head start would have been to delay it by two weeks, not two years, since within a month of the ban being lifted virtually all coasts and islands are gone. Hell, if you don't press the pause button on the first day most of what you want is gone. I don't think the modders had any idea of how quickly the AI colonizes.

Well it is something that is still a work in progress and especially after Victoria 1.04 is released will be looked at again. I believe the 2 year gap was included because of problems with AI-unhistorical colonizers being able to colonize as effectively as many of the historic colonizers and so to ensure the historic colonizers had a clear advantatge, that was done. Note however that the colony bans have been around since 0.3 and with all the changes since then to the mod they may very well need to be looked at again.

In the end though, it's easy to change the date for any nation's colony bans either by going into the .eug file for the scenario at the start of the game or in a saved game file from just before you want the ban to end and editing the dates from 1881 to 1879 (or whenever). Just like any change VIP makes, if the player doesn't like one particular change, they can be changed to something else by the player to suit his or her particular tastes.

Archduchess Sophia and the Counterrevolution

Im not sure about it but in VIP, Austria start as a monarchie and then it seems to change to a Con monarchie when Hungary gains its independence.

And after that you only have to pray for the Archduchess Sophia and the Counterrevolution to failed because if successful it will change back to Monarchie.

I am right about the Hungary independance?

I will have to check to confirm but I believe you are right. Once HUN gains complete independence (that is after defeating AUS in war and having AUS recognized HUN independence) AUS becomes a Con-Mon, with a flag change to the red-white-red with eagle superimposed. If you see AUS with that flag, its government has changed. If not, then it is most likely still a monarchy.

Would a VIP game with no Events be worth playing?

I was wondering what it'd be like to play a VIP game where all the nation-specific events have been commented-out so none of them kick in. This would mean Japan for insatnce won't get the Meiji event, so it'd make playing uncivs like Japan abit of a drag, but what else?

I've mentioned de-eventing VIP before but got carried away emotionaly and started lashing out and muttering unpleasantries about VIP-engineers, which I now accept is wrong and bad because the people behind VIP really put alot of effort into it, and it's not their fault if some people get annoyed by their millions of thousands of bloody Events that are alwasy butting in uninvited all the time and totaly stuffing-up my schemes and reducing my game to a series of A,-B-or-C options that bugger everything up no matter what I choose and turn what was a wonderfullly open-ended game into deterministic plod! It's not that I was saying VIP isn't fun to play, it both beguiles and enfuriates me. Anyway, that thread was deleted, and rightly so, I became quite rude.

But back to topic- what do you think will happen or how do you think an eventless- that is; Country-Specific Eventless VIP might play, if anyone's already tried it I'd like to know. If not- I may well proceed and give it a go.
