I did not do the integrating of Darkrenown's mod into VIP so I can not answer that - it may be that parts of his mod had to be modified or merged with other parts of VIP to "meld" better into the overall flow of the scenario, but I can not say that is what happened 100%. I do know that a vast proportion of Darkrenown's mod is incorporated into VIP.

Do the VIP team intend to incorporate LM+'s AI assistance mod into VIP in a future release? It would seem to be a good fit, for those players who enjoy the extra challenge of VIP and would like to give the AI some further help. (And since his mod gives you the choice at the start of the game whether to use it or sleep it, it shouldn't put off players who don't want to use it from playing VIP.)

We are just starting the preliminary ideas for 0.5 so it hasn't come up but I did post in reply to LM+ post in the AI thread above and I think there will be some fruitful discussions possible regarding his ideas, though at this point nothing concrete has been formally discussed.

What do you think of the sole idea of includnig "military goods" in pops needs?
A really bad idea...
Even if you put the smaller number, 0.1 (less than that will be useless), you HAVE to remember that these are ALL daily needs (they are bought on a daily basis).
So, after a year, an aristocrat would have bought: 0.1 x 360 = 36 weapons.
After you complete the game, an aristocrat would have bought:
0.1 x 360 x 84 = 3024 weapons.
Something doesn't have sense, right?
;)

You are treating that Aristocrat like a single person. Remember that it can be anywhere from 4000-400000 people (the x4 bug)

It was easier to explain it with an aristocrat of size 1. ;)
You are making a really big mistake with your affirmation.
A size 1 POP means that you have 4 people represented, but that doesn't mean that you have 4 aristocrats. ;)
It means that you have 1 aristocrat, his wife and 2 sons (as an example).
So, if the aristocrat buys weapons, you are telling me that he is buying it for his family too? so his sons and wife can go with him on hunting? :p

THings get really weird if you keep in mind that arming an entire DIVISION costs 10 small arms.... so the basic idea of implementing military goods for daily needs is flawd game-wise (tho there is a small point in it in real life perhaps)

Hi everybody.

I have Victoria for Mac and was wondering where I could get the VIP mod.

Thanks in advance

Currently the VIP mod is only tested on PC, so there is no Mac Version. We did attempt with an earlier version of VIP to do a Mac-downloadable version, but there were many instability problems so we have not tried it since. Not sure what the solution is as none of us, to my knowledge, on the development team have a Mac with Victoria (I have a Mac as well as PC but have always played the game on my PC).

If anyone has any suggestions please feel free to offer them.

Hello,
I would like to know what are the changes in the "world_names" file between "vip 4" and "vip 4b".
Because i made my french worldname file (for vip 4) and it don't work with vip4b.
If there's a little change, i would be happy to know it and not have to retranslate all the file.
Thanks.

yes, according to some of my sources Russia, Prussia and Austria where quite good friends of each other until the Crimean war at least. That still isnt modelled by you :)

Also a mistake from the vannilla game you copied into VIP :) Historically, Both the UK and Prussia signed the Londen treaty to keep France out of Belgium, right-now it seems to be the UK and France to keep Prussia out of Belgium, which historically only happened by the renewel of the treaty in 1871 (not signed by Germany).

And another thing: The Holy Alliance (Russia, Prussia, and Austria) only ended because Austria was threatening-neutral during the Crimean war, therefore Aus should get 4 event choices in the Crim war event: Support our Russian friends with force, give political support to our Russian friends, Warn the Russians (Historical but not very likely!), Declare war upon the Russians. If Austria takes one of the first 2 choices history will take a totally different route. Or Russia will support Austria in the German leadership war, or Russia will take a neutral position in that war, but after the German victory, it will re-ally them, and the conservative (holy) alliance would stay alive... means no socialist victory in Russia, and also a much more dangerous threath for the OE later on!

This info is a small amount of what I read in a book about the start of WWI and its pre-history, written in dec-1914 ...

What about the colonization rush. I hate when our treaties expire and the UK/ France already have all their colonies in africa building.... in one day. With no where to get in on the shore the only way into africa is through some poor unciv nation. I doubt colonization along the african shore happened all in one day like it does... lol I'm like WHAT HAPPENED AHHHH

IIRC all of the major European nations have the same date for the end of the colonization ban, so you just have to pay attention and be the first one in - it's a bit like the 50 yard dash, whoever starts best wins. At this point the way we have it setup is pretty much the best way to ensure that the AI nations colonize historically while the human player has the chance to sneak in if they are not playing a historical colonizer.

I really appreciate all the efforts to simulate historical colonization and to keep it interesting gameplay wise. Though, I think of the col. bans use as a temporary solution, until something less scripted can be modelled.

There was some discussion on having Medicine as a precondition for raising claim buildings, but I can't recall good arguments against it. If that's not enough, a second invention might be thrown in and material costs (as small guns, timber, etc.)

The historical col. could still be implemented by careful events, which check if the respective countries really are in position to col. what they did in RL.

What do you think?

I'm aware that such a path would scrap valuable work already done and I feel for the VIP team. But the sacrifice might be rewarding. :)
