Can't trigger the ACW and it's already 1873

flg_secede_southcarolina = 68
flg_gone_south = 24

This should trigger this event

#############################################
# ACW - pre-war political event by aprof
event = {
id = 304744
random = no
country = USA

picture = 14207

trigger = { local_flag = { name = flg_secede_southcarolina value = 47 }
local_flag = { name = flg_gop value = 1 }
ruling_party = 14100
NOT = { exists = CSA }
slavery = yes
campaign = no
atwar = no
}

name = "EVT304744N" #South Carolina Secession Convention
desc = "EVT304744D"

style = 0

date = { day = 1 month = january year = 1854 }
offset = 20
deathdate = { day = 30 month = december year = 1880 }

action_a = {
name

command = { type = trigger which = 304999 }
command = { type = sleepevent which = 304746 }
command = { type = sleepevent which = 304747 }
}

But they didn't coz this event didn't fire for whatever reason

#############################################

random = no
country = USA

picture = 14207

trigger = { local_flag = { name = flg_secede_southcarolina value = 46 }
event = 14113
slavery = yes
atwar = no
campaign = yes
NOT = { exists = CSA }
}

name = "EVT304743N" #The Republicans Are Unacceptable
desc = "EVT304743D"
style = 0

date = { day = 1 month = january year = 1854 }
offset = 30
deathdate = { day = 30 month = december year = 1880 }

action_a = {
name = "ACT304743A"
command = { type = local_setflag which = flg_gop value = 1 }

I've got the repbulican party in power ever since they came to existance but I can't seem to find the event which fires the Kansas-Nebraska.

flg_gop = 0

Any help?

Spain chose to propose it to you? and you accepted it? then FRA should have declared war.
What part didn't happened in your game?

Nothing happened, I waited a few months, reloaded and retried a few times, no event poped up playing as Prussia. SO I looked in the event files, found the event number and manually triggered it, and it worked. However, a Spanish event was required to trigger the Prussian event, and so the event must have triggered for Spain.

Not sure what happened, if you could manually trigger it then it should have been triggered by the engine. Only thing that potentially could be an issue is game speed - sometimes at very high speeds the game engine will "miss" events even if all triggers are set. But if you reloaded the game it should not have been an issue. Pity you do not have the savegame file, we could potentially draw more conclusions as to what went wrong.

Oranje Vrijstaat

Hi there,

i'm playing as Oranje Vrijstaat (Vic 1.03c+VIP0.4b); and at some point the following event triggers:

You get to choose a) join the british alliance and become a satellite state. (this will trigger later on an event splittin goranje vrijstaat up with the newly created Transvaal)

or b) not to join and get into a war with the british. Which i always loose badly even if britain is fighting like 10 other wars simultaniously.

I hate this event as it creates a loose-loose situation (although it is prolly historical :p .

Is there any way to avoid this event from happening? (so what triggers it)

So far i have played one GC where it didnt fire and ruled a lot of south africa :)

It fires somewhere in the 1840's (can i find the exact date somewhere, so i can prepare my defenses?; the way it stands now you will have a high probability of being overrun even before you can mobilize the (sometimes) substantial reserve base).

The event you refer to (ORA236001) is triggered by ENG157819 which can be found in the VIP_England.txt file in Victoria\scenarios\VIPscen\events. Basically the only way to avoid it is if England makes the B-choice in 157819.

And yes the lose-lose situation for Oranje is historical - Britain offered the Boers an ultimatum in 1848 - accept british overlordship willingly or face it being imposed. By 1848 the British were very concerned that Boer expansion in the interior could seriously destablize their own eastern borderlands in the Cape, and wanted to "rein in" the Boers if at all possible. Hence the creation of the Oranje River Sovereignty which was generally not liked by the Boers (especially those in the Transvaal) but in the situation could not be rejected. In the end the British would realize trying to control the Boer expansion was more trouble than it was worth, and in 1852 let the Transvaal Boers go free, though hoping for another two years that the Transvaal Boers would screw up and request British protection again, hence why the Oranje region remains under British control until 1854, when the Trans-Oranje Boers are set free again as the Oranje Free State.

So in the end, yeah it's a nasty event for Oranje, but one that is a true representation of what happened to the Boers in the late 1840s.

Hi,
Playing VIP 4.0 as Ottomans didn't see these addressed in the 'b' fixes, so here goes:

1. I have an Ottoman Admiral named "Hobart" with no picture/profile. Looking in the leaders and gfx files, I see there is no 'Hobart.bmp', which is called out in leaders.tur.

2. Same Ottoman game, 1876 comes around and I go to war with Serbia/Montenegro.
I conquer both and get the event "Demand the Ottomans return to the status quo in Serbia Requests Russian Intervention."
I refuse. Russia declares war. I eventually annex Montenegro and Serbia.
In 1877, peace is concluded and I get war indemnities from Russia.
Immediately upon conclusion, Russia declares war again in the event "War Is Our Only Option in Outbreak Of The Russo-Turkish War."
Umm...didn't we just have a "Russo-Turkish War"?
I'm sure Russia got a big Prestige penalty for declaring a war when a peace treaty was in effect.
Perhaps the Russo-Turk war event should be slept when Russia selects the "War Is Our Only Option in Ottomans Response To Our Ultimatum.." option?

3. Noticed this during the game and found it in the history log:

- j
(great mod, btw - I am downloading the 'b' patch now!)

Not sure about 1 - something odd there to be sure. Will have to check that.
On 2, will see what can be reworked for this case where the human TUR player gets war with RUS as a result of the Serbia war and beats RUS. Most of the scripting in this area has been in the historical chain of events, ahistorical results by human players are being worked on for later editions of VIP.
On 3 I think that has been noted already.

Found the problem! I didn't realise that the events were saved in the save game file, so I looked through it, and it seems that Spain chose to offer the throne to an Italian, instead of the Prussian candidate!

I didn't realise Spain actaully had a choice, and in all previous games I had thought that the Franco Prussian war was a "given" as long as I defeated the Austrians and the Danish.

Ah the wonder of the B-choices, always lurking to foil plans for nations far away from where they happen.

Given that Bismarck was looking for an opertunity to defeat the French, and so bring the southern German states under Prussias wing, shouldn't there be another chain of events for a later unification of Germany if Spain makes the B choice?

Hi men,
I was out of Inet a few days, so I do not know, if you have corrected those bugs in last patch, but:

1. I think that trigger "religion = { type = sunni } does not works, I tested it. type = pagans works, event 28005 mahdist in VIP_Province_owner.txt

2. Lot of VIP events (fe. VIP_ENGLAND 157702) have wrong command "add_division.....vhen = <id prov>", it does not work, correct is "add_division........ where = <id prov>", File EventCommands.txt is wrong with this too.

3. This is not bug, bu AI Russia has not chance win an early war with CentrAsia khanates, because has not border with Khiva. could you change ai_chance in events or correct borders? Note: I do not know, what is historically correct.

4. Names of dragoon division in BOH (Czech), are not correct, correct name is "Divize dragounů" (or dragounu). "Dragounská divize" is horrible like my english :).

have a nice day

Ahistorical events/chains have not to this point been the focus of VIP but there will be work to add paths for ahistorical results in things like Italian and German unification as VIP progresses.

It is standalone, though it does incorporate some other mods such as Darkrenown's mod on German Unification. Other mods you can look at event files to see if there will be "dissonance" to bring together, but as VIP overwrites files (at least until mod-dir becomes a reality *fingers crossed*) it would be best to add a mod on top of VIP, not the other way around. But in the end trial and error is the only guide.

Well, i was hoping i would get much help. I don't seem to know if the event fired or not as i don't know how but IIRC, it didn't. Come on VIP people, help me here!!!

Go to \Victoria\scenarios\save games

there you will see .eug files of all games you have saved, including the latest autosave.

If you are still playing this game with the ACW problem, then open up autosave.eug. It is a long file and at the near bottom you will find the event list history in full and then two section below the last even in the history section from just before the autosave.

history = { 194999 213151 216000 217000 259021 ...(goes on for several rows) }

sleepevent = { 282005 132067 304401 157234 157241 ...(goes on for several rows) }

Now check in either the history or the sleepevent section to see if either lists 14113. If in history, then it fired already and that means it is not the cause of your problem. If in sleepevent, that means another event put it to sleep so it did not fire, which might make it the cause of your problem. If it is not in either section, it did not fire and it may be the cause of your problem. But to be honest, there are so many different paths (and potentials to be taken off the path) in the setup for the American Civil War that it could very well be some b-choice made by an AI in the 1830s has created the conditions where you will never have it fire. I will have to defer to aprof as he knows much more about the ACW chains than I can ever hope too. They are very complicated though so it could be any number of things.

Re: oranje

OHgamer: thanks for your swift response!

Can you tell me in short what the chances are for the AI in choosing the "historical" option instead of the above mentioned "b option".
i note in the eventfile option a is labelled "historical" so i guess this it what makes the AI to choose this option more often. Is it a 90-10 % change? or even bigger?

Furthermore with respect to the event itself: do i interpret it right that when i as oranje an at war with one of my neighbours, during feb-dec 1848, the event wont fire?

Thanks in advance!

A few things that have come up

First, the mod is getting better all the time. I really like the dynamic ACW, because it really gives the US (and the CSA) player something to think about.

However, I've noticed a few things. The event that allows to move the CSA capital to move does not fire, and the event "Emancipation in Congress" has fired several times in the 1870-ties even when the CSA is at war with the US.

Also, there seems to be a problem regarding steel: no one produces it which leads to a significant problem regarding railroad construction. I've had games playing US, where even in 1870 steel has been practically impossible to get. Is this intentional?

2. Lot of VIP events (fe. VIP_ENGLAND 157702) have wrong command "add_division.....vhen = <id prov>", it does not work, correct is "add_division........ where = <id prov>", File EventCommands.txt is wrong with this too.
There are a few vanilla events that also use this and Havard's site also shows it incorrectly. The correct parameter name does seem to be "where" from my tests.
