I was just playing the Transvaal (yeah, masochist, I am - but I did bag all the unciviliseds, and Oranje, up as far as the Congo!), and that "Annexation" event that runs when you invade African provinces is a real bummer, as it affects the Transvaal itself.

In other words, my Dutchies were one of these African tribes who started rebelling and giving me trouble. :eek:
Somehow I think this was in error.

Other thing, not VIP related really, but I'm sure you guys would know - the events that fire after you have researched technology. Is their triggering linked to prestige? My technology was vast (Transvaal has one POP of clergymen which is enormous in Pretoria, and their small total population means you get something like 1.3 RPs a month at max education, just with that one POP) but not a single event had fired for anything. It was 1915 when I stopped, I had army 25 by then, and no joke, not a single event beyond the very beginning ones like Jominian attitude.

I went bankrupt right at the beginning and had -300 prestige, which I think might be responsible. But I blew a whole lot of points on culture, got it up to about 15 or so very quickly, expecting some prestige bonuses - and nothing fired. By 1915 -still- nothing had fired, so I figure this wasn't random chance.

That is not true. The reason why I know it is not true is that think of the Zulu. They have avoided going bankrupt and therefore had zero prestige. I played countries with negative prestige and still recieved inventions.

Event 304129 in the ACW file ("The Resolution of Slavery") has a minor typo - options a and c both cost 100,000 pounds but option b costs 10,000 - should be 100,000.

Quick edit: Looking at the logs i see that France got the Conservatie German Empire formed Febuary 27 1851 and December 20 1852.

Edit2: Sorry guys, i was going to copy the file from that computer to this one when i realised that the crossover cable is at my brothers. Il get it back sometime next week, but i can say 100% tough that France got the CGE event both times tough.

Well, the only command that it is available deletes units randomly, you can only tell it to delete naval units, but not which type.
So, when you are near 1900, you could be deleting the most advanced UK stuff and let them with the wooden fleet. ;)

This is still a little extreme but it is a start and seems to be logical. At this point you lose the ability to build ManoWars so this event Mothballs your Clipper Transports and ManoWars and Possibly Commerce Raiders but that is unavoidable. This will definitly trim down the number of Wooden ships kicking around later on.

In regards to the trigger, I avoided players exploting this by making it AI only and to prevent small countries from getting the bonus, I left it to GP's only since they are the naval powers anyway.

This is ineffectual to just disband the starting navies as the starting navies pale in comparison to the later built navies. Therefore it would have little to no effect on most countries.
GREAT!! when i get this event (or invention?) as Switzerland i will get all those ships too?... ;)
i think you are making a big mistake here, you are thinking this event in terms of UK, USA or FRA, but none of the other countries have big navies, so you are giving a lot of ships for free.
Imagine getting this event as: Japan, Persia, Deseret, Paraguay, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, Bavaria, etc... ;)

Countries with negative prestige has a harder time to get inventions, but it is not imposible to get one (but sometimes, it may look like it is ;) )

Your welcome... I played Two Sicilies and found it quite weird that Sardinia-Piedmont didn't join... so I looked over the files and manually triggered the event.

Preventing reannexation of Venice and Lombardia is very hard though... :)

i think you are making a big mistake here, you are thinking this event in terms of UK, USA or FRA, but none of the other countries have big navies, so you are giving a lot of ships for free.
Imagine getting this event as: Japan, Persia, Deseret, Paraguay, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, Bavaria, etc... ;)
Hehe, ya i was just thinking of the biggies...ouch.

Ok, how about a simple solution then. Make this event specifically for a group of countries i.e. FRA ENG to start. I agree the event chain is just for giving ideas and not even close to a finished product

Yes, that's why I think that it's better to delete specific units (which the delete unit command allows you to do by entering their unit id instead of -1/-2/-3). This would of course only allow the removal of ships already in existence at the start of the game (and a separate event would have to be done for every country affected - but this should only affect the top three or four naval powers, specifically UK, US and Russia, and maybe Holland; no point making such events for countries that start with one ship ;)), but in the absence of any ideal alternative solution, this seems like a good start - certainly would help cut down on the UK's wooden fleet by a significant amount.
