VIP 0.4 sounds awesome!

But it seems as if Ethiopia is now in the same boat as Texas before VIP. Is there an event like San Jacinto for Ethiopia that just did not fire, or will Ethiopia have to fend for itself in Vicky terms, with nothing but three irregular divisions against the great colonial powers?

Looks great

I think this will be a magnificent addition to an already great mod (VIP). Could you post what the final standings were from this game?

One think I noticed that gave me a chuckle was the screeny of Prussia just prior to the Unification... almost all of northern Germany is Prussian blue... except my ancestors stubborn holdout in Lippe-Detmold!

That screenie IIRC is from 1869 - that is after PRU defeats AUS and created the North German Federation. We found there were to many potentials for the existence of NGF among the smaller states to create problems for PRU to win Franco-Prussian war that instead we have melded NGF into Prussia. After all, the NGF was dominated by PRU in any case so not so historically incorrect. That is why there is this big northern blue state for PRU.

At this point ETH is on its own, mainly due to lack of time to prepare something else, but one of my plans for 0.5 will be to do more work with Africa (S Africa got the attention for 0.4) so look for changes in the future.

The America's concerns me. VIP .4 seems to give too much clout to the Indian Nations of the West. I hardly think they should be considered Soverign States with that much control over the West. Im also concerned by the fact that the Western Expansion is now FULLY controlled. The West at this point was still wide open and had a very open future, Im afraid that this new VIP will make the West run too smoothly or always end up with the same results. There is no doubt that the game messed up Western Expansion before, Mexico was too able to hold on to the West, but now it seems the Influence of Mexico, UK, and the US in the early West is strongly diminished and that the actually Weak Indian control is exaggerated.

If you are playing as the USA, not really. There is nothing to stop a USA player from going ahead and seizing full control over the lands of the Cherokee, Sioux or Nez Perce in 1836 via war if that is what they really want to do. A USA player can chose whether to take the slow, gradual route via the treaties we've added in via event, or go for outright conquest early. The Native States do not have any international affairs potential as they are already satellites, at best they have control over internal development in their regions, which in the 1830s I would argue is exactly what the situation on the ground was. What this new mod does prevent is Mexico winning claims in say Idaho as a result of war so that no one can claim the state. It also makes it much more difficult for ahistoric powers such as say France moving in via a colonial war - this scenario guarantees war with whoever is master over the satellite should that happen.

Did you change something with the french population growth rate???
And in the population of 57 millions inhabitants with the empire what is the %tage for the metropolitan France????

All is very good for me except that i see the Indians nations as a bit "abusives".

I don't have the breakdown on FRA pop but we have not done any modding to population growth so not sure what could be the cause.

Could you explain a bit further why you think the Native American nations are "abusive" ??

What is the reason of the huge US population in 1920 ?

Most likely the immigration bug that had been discussed on the main Victoria pages.

How is the 54/40 issue treated in this version of VIP?

I will have to check as that is stuff outside my area of expertise. I do know that aprof (the modder responsible for most of the US things) did rework the whole Oregon Treaty scenario to work with the new Native American states but I am not familiar with the exact details. My guess (and I'll confirm when I get home from work and can look at the files) is that if the USA gets control of the 54 line then all the releveant native claims will now fire for the USA at the appropriate time rather than for the UK/Canada and the reverse if the UK gets the whole of Oregon Country.

I have read quite a lot but not everything (since it is too long and I don't have really much time :( ) but soon I will be home and then I can look at it more carefully but as with my observations: (I know it is just one scenario but...)

I saw that Austria's military strength around 1840s is about 15-20. I have alreday stated it that it makes Austria very weak I know it shouldnt be too strong but with this degree it is not accurate IMO. They are an easily beaten "empire". Austria should have around 25-30 military strength by the time being. Also what about the Austria-Hungary Empire. I have NEVER seen Austria becomin Austria-Hungary in any of my games. Is there any improvement on this?

At the latest stages I saw French and Germans in the Balkans. What is goin on? :) . I hope it is a one-time or hard-to-happen thing. Apart from this by doin all these I think the road to Balkan War is now open. What about it?

Finally Düyun-u Umumiye and all the financial events are in for OE?

Not familiar with AUS at this point but we are noticing some weakness and are working on it.

That FRA-GER-ITA war with TUR was about the weirdest thing I've seen in VIP in a long time, and testing since then has never created a similar situation, so will assume that was just a one-time weirdness.

Yes those Ottoman events are now included for release in 0.4

Yes. We created "duplicate" events for the USA/UK in the event that USA gets 54th parallel or UK gets 42nd.

Duplicates? So you were too lazy to write original events for each nation?

Just kidding. It looks great and I'm really looking forward to downloading it.

I do like all the changes you have done so far, but how far have you come in the balkan wars? It would be exiting to play a mp game with serbia, bulgaria, greece and other minor countries in this period. I KNOW people are writing events about this but how close are you to actually use them in your patch? Maby in 0.5?

The entire Balkan upheavals of 1875-1878 have been redesigned, and while there are potentials for ahistorical results if the AI makes B-choices, in general we are just about to the point where Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, Serbia and Montenegro all appear with historical borders up to 1885 (union of Bulgaria & Eastern Rumelia, though as of yet no SER-BUL war, that will have to await 0.5). Also have reworked Crete events so that it gets into Greek hands by 1912. Not a lot of internal events, but the major international relations have been pretty much worked out. The 1912-1913 Balkan Wars and partition of Macedonia will be something for 0.5, because of problems with ahistorical events in the period between the 1880s and 1910 that can create situations no one expects, and the logistics of land division when you can not predict who will have what provinces in the middle of a war. Overall the Balkan region is moving forward.
