We a trying to bring the game into a historical scope, and to have fun. If we are adding a SMALL (read SMALL here, cause it is SMALL machine_parts requirement) we are sure that the world won't have a supply defict. We are not that dumb.

Also, this is a beta, for testing, if it doesn't work it will be scraped as a ton of ideas were, DR shouldn't even post a screenie with this in the first place.

So, to the ones that doesn't tried the final product, wait, play THEM complain.

No one's complaining. Commenting on it. And .20 machine parts per province is hardly small until much much later in the game unless you go warmonger and conquer enough areas to get enough coal, iron and steel. I think you just overreacted upon hearing the comments.

That is all.

Ok,

Sorry if our comments on MPs ticked anyone off, but it's a rather touchy subject for some of us. Trust me, we appreciate all the effort you've put in to making the game more historical. :)

Besides, since this thread is openly inviting us to speculate about how the game works without being able to play it, you shouldn't be surprised if we jump to conclusions. Go look at the HoI2 forum. The same thing is happening over there with the screenshots. ;)

You should be reading all the post, cause the supply side of the equations was also worked, so m_p efficiency was also improved. And yet 0.2 is the 1st beta, we can reduce it to 0.1 or increase the efficiency again.

Till we find a balance that pleases us.

Guys, we really should be pleased. I just came from reading the "3rd Screenie Teaser" in the HOI2 forum where everyone is speculating on what the icons mean, and complaining about things like the size of the sprites and how much HOI2 looks and/or plays like VIC (also without ever having played the game). We're getting much the same reaction as Johan.

And now we know why he refuses to say anything about what may or may not be in a game or when a patch will be out. :)

I think that FIRST, you MUST understand that this is a BETA version, so everything is under testing...

I did say this was still a beta version in the first post, and again about the MP parts being subject to balance changes. If people can't stop saying "OMG, this change means I'll never play VIP!" I'm going to have to stop the preview.

At least we are getting feedback :D

Please don't stop the previeew, darkrenown. We're just commenting, that's all. The fact that we're even here means that we're looking more at your preview than at our own suspicions. If you manage to build railroads successfully, then we'd be fine with it. If you can't, and then you tell us that improvements are being made, we'll believe you.

Best of all, anyone who reads this thread and is at all impress will download VIP. I never did before because I was concerned that it would be too much to learn again. This preview will, hopefully, alleviate that fear, and if yu can get me to download VIP, you can get anyone to download VIP.

DR,are you "planning" to lose the war with S-P to let Italy form properly?

Hey,Montenegro is still alive in 1839! :D

Are there any changes to the Austro-Italian setup (specifically thinking of more Austrian influence on Tuscany/Modena,satellites etc.)?

Oh,and just noticed in the 1839 screenie,it seems like Yemen got control over Mecca and Medina. How is this coming?

Ok, this will probably be my last post on this thread.

First of all, I apologize my post ticked some people off. Upon re-reading my post, I realized I forgot to add adopting VIP for MP setting. I did write it is fine for SP.

I like VIP, so are others. There is even talk of starting next MP game with latest VIP. I'm just very concerned that MP requirements to early railroad will do to an multi-player setting game. Multi-player economics can be a fairly different beast than single player. I like to see MP a success for multi-player setting as well.

Anyways, review away, I will still pay attention to this thread but I don't feel I should comment on it anymore. Re-read the 2 posts I have on this thread, I don't think I was overly negative, I even gave some input such as changing requirement for different level (since I did not know it's not possible). I'm sorry if my post angered anyone as it is not my intention.

:D Yes, and I will soon. But I've spent all my Victoria time desperately trying to save myself from the wrath of all my MP partners. They all despise me.

I certainly am pleased by the addition of machine parts to the cost of railroad construction. The argument that railroad construction does not include actual trains is rather silly. The private sector does absolutely nothing in the game, except through exceptionally rare random events, and hence we must assume that the player represents them as well as the government. If the only one building factories is the player, then the player must be the one providing the trains. So there is a realistic basis for the requirement of machine parts.

Secondly, I get very sick and tired of seeing the ahistorically rapid construction of railroads across every country in the world. The reason railroads took so long to build was because of the engineering and technological expertise required to plan, construct, and operate the lines. Nothing represents this better than machine parts.

Hoorah! I say, Hoorah!

Yeah, me too.

I think a slow and steady growth of railroads across the land is one of the things that represent the era. Railroads did NOT appear in every province of a nation within a few years. (Well maybe they DID in Lucca, Luxemburg or Krakow. ) That ease of rail construction is a gamer desire, not a historical desire. VIP is simply introducing a way to slow the kind of rapid rail growth which ends up removing the player from the Victorian-era mindset and plants them back into playing a game.

In 1840, the steam locomotive was the most advanced technological innovation of its time (steam technology having taken over first place by eclipsing the technology of stays, guys, blocks and knots; i.e. the rigging of a sailing ship!). An analogy could be to computers and the internet in 1977 - it was just getting started; it didn't rush to build MMORGs, blogs and so forth in the first month.
