When exactly does the Treaty of Tordesillas get violated?
In my game I play as Castile, and I suddenly spotted a -200 modifier with my ally Portugal. It was because I apparently had broken the Treaty of Tordesillas. I hadn't noticed any popup about it happening. Since my strategy was to have a good relationship with Portugal as long it was possible into the game, I probably would have liked to avoid breaking it if I could.
I just wonder what happened?
From EUIV Wiki:
"The first Catholic nation to create a colonial nation in a colonial region while having positive relations with the Papal States will be given a ‘Papal Grant’, which speeds up the growth of settlers for them by +10 in that colonial region and slows down the settler growth of all other Catholic nations there by -20.
A Catholic nation that violates a Papal Grant gets -50 relations with both the nation that has the grant and the Papal States."
In the game, the process of the colonization game was as follows:
1. Portugal starts colonizing in the Caribean.
2. Shortly afterwards, Castile starts colonizing in the Caribean.
3. Portugal gets its first self-sustained colony province, and continues colonizing in the area.
4. Castile gets its first self-sustained colony province and continues colonizing.
5. "The Caribeas" appear as a colonial nation under Portugal, consisting of the Portuguese colonies in the Caribean.
6. Some time afterwards, Castile automatically gets its colonies transformed to a colonial nation in a similar way .
By that time, I noticed the relation penalty and that the Treaty of Tordesillas was broken by me.
A. So, exactly when did it happen?
B. And why did I get a -200 penalty, and not the -50 penalty as the wiki says?
C. Was there a popup (which I missed)?
D. Could I have avoided breaking the treaty in any way?
