Not only was it my first completed AAR it was also my first completed game! Even though I did get a serious case of war weariness during the 50 years war I'm glad I finished it. I hope those of you who kept prodding me along to finish have enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed playing and writing it.

Now.... for my next trick..... Hmmmm.... maybe Byzantium? :D Oh wait! how about England? There aren't anywhere near enough English AARs... ;)

Thanks, Olaf, for sharing your story with us. It was a true pleasure to read, and i have enourmously enjoyed Vinland's rise to power.

Could you please post one final screenshot as well showing your land. And could you look up how many of your soldiers have died in these wars?

Thanks again. And one just must wonder, where will Olaf and Aud move next?

Ahh the joys of simultameous posting. :D I did take some screenshots on December 1, 1792 which I'll upload to EUArsenal a little later.

...and Olaf, guess who still is waiting for your final screenshot. Come on, don't let your loyal followers down ;)

So I see you finished the techs by 1709! This is just something I don't understand, particularly when others talk about maxing out in the mid 17th century.

So come and tell us how it's done. I was happily cutting through the tech levels until Naval 34 and Land 38ish and then, all of a sudden, they start to cost 40k a time. Now on Naval 37, it's costing me over 100k which seems to me to just to too unreasonable and will take around 7 years to get through. Are they supposed to be so expensive?

Anyway, still nice work. Was the end flourish just a little creative writing on your part (ie just change the monarch files)

On the leader files, does Washington and the like appear for Vinland?

As for the techs the key is an aggressive loan strategy which allows you to make money even with the treasury slider zeroed out. I also aim to max out infrastructure and trade first which I think makes for faster overall tech progression. I don't believe I ever saw the rate get as high as 40k for any one tech though. Hmmm....

The monarch and leader files do in fact give the American leaders. In v2.2 they even use the American shield.

I've actualy just found the tech tables and Naval 37 is the most expensive along with muskets and with the exception of the trade and infrastructures after level 4.

Fortunately, the nice thing is that it's not going to go up much when I annex Poland and China

Anyway, look forward to the screenshots

There was one other 'secret' to my tech succuess. For some reason I had four filthy rich CoTs with a combined face value of at least 4k which the AI made little or no effort to contest. Once I had refineries built and trade maxed out it was a good deal more than 4k. I only had to spend two, maybe three, merchants a year to keep all four completely monopolized with no AI merchants whatsoever. I've never seen the AI play the trade game that badly.

I remember reading this back long ago, before I was a registered user. :)

By the way, a new Vinland AAR has been started by Languish in the EU2 AAR forum. I suggest anyone who likes this classic AAR, to go there. :)
