I thought about having Jane request Mary Queen of Scots head on a silver platter too but decided the episode would border on too long without it anyway. Does the name "Bloody Jane" fit? Actually the reason for the extra two immortals is that I had a death of monarch event with a regency that was almost as good as the original and decided that I needed to keep Jane for the unification process. I also decided she would worhtless as widow. I suppose I'll figure out a name for the intervening monarch in the next episode. As for the time remaining I believe it's 163 years but who's counting?
Actually Vinland does have one weakness which has made me loathe to engage in war. My manpower potential is rock bottom. It was at the minimum to begin with and it seems that as soon as I annex a province its MP drops to zero! It makes waging a long war almost unthinkable.
This one amounts to Mogadiscu, Bombay, Ganges, Santal, Patana, Mekong, and Luzon as well as Table and Australia though you;d never know it given how many countries have the same brownish hue on the map.

I think as Vinland you get extra manpower thanks to the American East Coast provinces from Penobscot down to Tallahassee (plus a few others a bit inland including 2 from the Iroquois). But you need to have full cities there so I expect at the moment you only have TPs and colonies. Anyway the total only amounts to something like 20 or so, at least so long as you don't have recruitment centers.
All that means that if you're planning on war you need to build troops long before so that you have enough reserve for its duration. It can be a pain if you have a BB high enough that you get successive declarations of war against you once you're involved in a first war.
Olaf, thanks for the screenies - looks very impressive and scary in the same time. What is your bb again? You look very vulnerable at this point. What do they call an empire like this? Far-flung?
That sounds about right. I think I've got about 20 MP/year maybe a little more, maybe a little less. Unfortunately I am now at the point in the game where I usually give up. I've now fought the second Spanish American War three times! It's always the same. Declare on Spain and watch her allies desert her, even though I'd also like to carve up France. (No offence ) Resign Mysore to the alliance in time for the DoW from the Mughal Empire. Burn every Spanish TP on the Gulf Coast and Pacific coast. Take Angarabad from the Mughals. Take Dehli. make peace w/ Mughals and keep Angharabad. Take Lima from the Spanish. Take Andalusia from the Spanish. Take Galicia and some provinces in the north. Besiege half of Spain. Finally, in an act of mercy take Castille. Propose peace to Spain which would give me Galicia, Lima and 250d. Stare at desktop. Wonder why I never remember to save during a war. Wonder if it's time to change the wallpaper.

Happened to me to in my Portugal AAR. I saved the game and then tried to change the requirements - when I asked for 2 provinces the game crashed. When 2 provinces and 250 ducats - it goes on. Weird.

I guess that at some point of the game, the AI just turns out to react too predictably for the hardcore grey eminence.
Perhaps it would be more intelligent for the AI to concentrate not on the high rated BB countries to fight against, but rather to build stable and long-term alliances against the real powermongers (like Vinland p.e.). It's very impressing to see them all fall like flees into your reign without a real effort. On the other hand it possibly only sounds that easy because of your excellent narration technique .
Anyway, your course through the centuries is quite excitingly to follow.

Actually the reason the Spanish American War (at least the European part) sounds so easy is that I don't report other wars. In this case a Spanish war made my job much easier. About three years earlier they went to war with France against Burgundy and won Artois in a seperate peace. Guess where Spain has an army of 50k? Guess where they're lucky if they have 5k?
well, if they concentrated on building power and didn't go to war, how would they keep the alliance up? with no DOW it would expire every 10 years.
Spanish... poor folkes. Conquered inkas and aztecs, but poor buggers forgot to build forts (exept in gold-provinces). Imagine how easy is to get 6 stars for them... you just need couple of 1k cavalry units and war is over within 3 month, incl some fire-accidents in their TPs-. And poor buggers put trade embargo on me every 5-6 years. Someone must have hit their grey eminence with rock on his head. Several times.

I may continue. I will probably continue but after an aggravating round of crashes like I had today I find I need to take a break, especially since my last save features the troop-laden ships offshore waiting for my DoW and I have little choice but to do it all again and hope I don't have another crash!
Keep going!!!!!! I just read thru this whole thing, and it's great, and you must keep going. You are a very good writer, and I really enjoyed reading this. Also, it's nice to see my country owning a third of Europe and I want to see it own more

I've had the same experience with fighting the Second Spanish American war only to crash during the peace offering multiple times but I'll try it one more time. this time when i get ready to make the offer I'll save and keep trying like hjarg suggested. (I didn't see it until you bumped the thread up.)

On the 25th day of November in this, the year of Our Lord 1630, the Greater Vinland Union did declare war on the Spanish papists. In the moment that our declaration was issued our brave troops disembarked from the Bremen Fleet to Andalusia. Our troops also began their victorious march into the Spanish held provinces in Mexica and along the Gulf Coast. A fleet is enroute to Spanish held Lima.
In other news the Spanish Crown was deserted by all of its allies, including France, Poland, and the Papal States. King Canute has said, "May God have mercy on Spain for I shall have none!" For more information please stay tuned to the town cryer's report.
(In other words, by saving compulsively I did manage to get through the second Spanish American War. That's the good news. The bad news is that it seems I had hardly finished the war with Spain, the Mughals and Portugal when the Dutch declared war on France, which now promises to become a very wide war indeed since all allies honored the alliance this time around. This one may prove even harder to finish. I'll try to have another installment tomorrow.)
