Hey, as an Indian person, do you think it's correct to put Dravidians into the same culture union with Indo-Aryans? Should there maybe be a separate formable state for South India?

I honestly think there should be several indian formibles. Rajputana for the rajputs, let Hindustan be a north indian formable. What tag would you make for the dravidans though.

In the end, I did manage to get this achievement by making Ming into a protectorate (in one war) but I was never able to (only) get their capital.
If their capital is not isolated, you cannot take it in one war. You must spend one war to isolate the capital, then you can take it in the next war (even if they don't move it, although they usually do).

Deccan Empire?

The only tag we need in india is some Hindustani tag for Muslim countries, just to get rid of the silly Hindu flag on my Shia Bahmanid Indian Empire.

Formable countries in EU4 aren't as useful as they were in EU3, the ability to create cores almost negates the utility of a formable country (well, except the most obvious cases like Russia, Great Britain, HRE and Commonwealth), expecially in India, where Bahmanis and Vijayanagar are both Deccan Empires, for size and importance in the region.

Well, in the PDM mod for Vicky 2 you can create Dravidistan, Hindustan, Rajputana etc. But you can also create a united India. So as long as that is formable, we can have any sub unions as well.

I'd like confirmation this is true because Hindustan didn't function as a union in previous patches (even though it should have).

I do believe it has always been this way, but it's a little complicated.

India now has 5 culture groups: Hindusthani, Eastern Aryan, Western Aryan, Dravidian, and central Indian. When you form Hindustan as ANY Indian nation, you get Hindusthani as union culture, giving no penalties. This would be in addition to the culture you originally start with.

For eg, Vijayanagar is Kannada (part of Dravidian), so you get:
Primary: Kannada
Same culture group: Rest of Dravidian
Culture Union: Hindusthani

In screenie 1 you can see Hinduthani culture highlighted giving no malus. In second screenie you see Dravidian culture highlighed, where you get reduced malus from same culture group.

So the optimum strategy is to form Hindusthan with a non-Hindusthani culture country to get the least malus on the max number of provinces.

Here's my progress so far: I've conquered everything to the south (Venad is my vassal), and I have 0 unrest due to raising autonomy. But now, the only places I can expand are into Bahmanis and Orissa, both of whom have alliances with more troops than me, and I'm already above my forcelimit and not making much extra money (because I got a pair of events that lowered the autonomy in half my provinces...), so I can't build a much larger army. What should I do next?

Option 1: Get alliances of your own and beat them at their own game. If you can pit Orissa against Bahmanis, that ought to help.

Option 2: Go around them and take Gujarat, Bengal, Sind, or even some of those South East Asian nations. This can be done either via transport ships or via military access.

I decided to just attack Orissa for my cores. The AI was silly and kept suiciding its stacks into my bigger army, so despite me having fewer troops to begin with, I got enough warscore to take my 2 cores. However, in the meantime, a Pretender rose, and I wouldn't mind giving in to them (the ruler is pretty good), but I can't negotiate with them. Furthermore, Bahmanis has seen my weakness and has just DOW'ed me, and right now, it and Malwa have more troops than me, and they haven't even called in Bengal yet.

I have to either kill the rebels or wait until they decide to siege my capital, right? And how can I fight them and the larger Bahmanian armies at the same time? Should I just take out a bunch of loans and spam mercs?

True, local numerical superiority can be much more important than absolute numerical superiority.

Yep, take out those loans and do what you have to do to win and bonus points for reclaiming your cores from Bahmanis and extra bonus points if you can land lock them and get access to Gujarat and that purple OPM at the same time.

Unless the pretender is substantially better than your current ruler, just off him. It'll be faster and unless his stats are really good (or if he has a really cool dynasty name), they might not justify the prestige and legitimacy hit.
