Viewing claims

Well, back to CK after a long hiatus (CK1.05).

A couple of questions:

1. How do I see who has a claim on a province? I've ended up in two wars because a rival Kingdom has a claim on one of my newly acquired provinces (the first by unexpected inheretence and the other through conquest).

2. How did a minor Irish count with only 200 troops at his disposal put over 3,000 troops into the field? He had four regiments all listed as from his one and only province. Is this a bug or were they bought and paid for merceneries? I know there are mercenary events but this count must have struck gold to get 3,000 troops within a day of war starting out. (The war wasn't with me btw it was between two rivals.

1) On the relationship-map. If you click on a province that province will turn green. Provinces on which the ruler of that 'green'-province has claims on will turn orange.

Claims within the same realm will not be visible (they are various shades of green)


2) Through events, mercenaries aren't that expensive. 1,000 men cost 10 gold.

This allows me to see who the ruler of the 'source' province has claims upon. But how do I see who has claims upon the 'source' province? (If you understand my inarticulate attempt of explaining myself o)

Do they have to pay for the upkeep of a mercenary regiment?

1. There is no map mode that allows this. But in the ledger of DV there is a page where you can see who all has claims on your titles

2. Yes, you have to pay for the upkeep of mercenary-regiments. But as the AI can't go into debt this is not a problem for him

What does a Tourney Event gain me (I don't think I've ever had one due to my settings for law)?

What exactly happens if I were to get a usury event and if it is loans, does this come at a price?

If internet is the only thing stopping you from buying DV, you can get Crusader Kings Complete (including Deus Vult) from shops such as Amazon from as little as 6.5£

They can give or take gold and prestige, and possibly wound your marshall OR make him valorous.

What exactly happens if I were to get a usury event and if it is loans, does this come at a price?

You can get in sequence:
-moneylenders building,
-renown merchant houses (merchant princes) advance,
-local merchant houses advance

All give money and cost piety.

If you have the possiblity to install CK on a machine with internet access, you can buy DV and download and install it on top of your CK. Then copy/move the folder to a memory stick or other transportable storage device. Then copy it to your PC when you get home.

And now confession time:

In last night's session I used F12 Byzantine. Shameful I know.

I started out as Duke of Flanders and now I am King of Portugal. This current game (circa 1140's) is descending into chaos. Large swathes of Europe are owned by the muslim princes. France in its entirety is a mass of emirates. The Pope keeps calling for a crusade to capture Jerusalem but nobody answers because they are busy with the emirs who are invading their christian homelands.

Here's my problem: I don't really do warmongering. Controlling a nation at war makes my head explode, but the muslims keep attacking my vassals on my borders (my realm is basically the north west of Iberia). And every tin pot emir who has only <1,000 troops at his diposal can suddenly muster tens of thousands within days of war (presumably merceneries). I am at war constantly and my game is spiralling out of control - to my ever lasting shame, I couldn't deal with it anymore - F12!

Not that the F12 bought me much of a respite - two minutes later the emir of Seville dowed another vassal. Seville is a single demesne creature; leader of about 700 men with no allies. Easy eh? Yeah right. Before my army even reaches Seville he has about 15,000 men in the field and is busy conquering my borders.

I ended my session there.

I think you're going to be glad you did. DV makes CK worlds more interesting, IMHO.
