There's a very useful but extremely well hidden menu that shows you the total numbers of each type of equipment you have deployed in the field (you have to click the divisions overview button in the top right hand corner, then click the three bars in the corner of the window - why isn't this made more obvious??), but is there no way of viewing those numbers alongside the numbers you have stockpiled? It's not much use by itself, and it's not that easy to switch back and forth between views quickly.

Otherwise it's very hard to know how your stockpiles actually compare to the number you're likely to need, or if you've got the right proportion between them.

Honestly I'm kind of bewildered in general by the design choices for the various stockpile screens in this game. You've got a bunch of vital and closely interrelated information spread across the Production screen, the Logistics screen, the recruitment screen, the military overview screen, that really needs to be viewed together to make sense of, but it's never all visible at once. And this is despite the fact that none of these screens take up more than like a third of the screen at most.

Would be a very simple thing to add the the total stockpile number to the the equipment in field screen, or the equipment in field number to the logistics screen (although honestly it feels like the whole set-up of those various separate screens needs a rethink).

Am I missing something?

Attrition and production result in per-day adjustment you see in logistic screen.
Yes, I'm aware of that. But the attrition rate varies wildly depending on exactly what's happening in any given moment, so it's of fairly limited use - and it's of no use whatsoever during the build-up before active fighting has broken out. It would be really beneficial to see the total amount of equipment deployed next to the amount stockpiled, so you actually have a clear sense of how big your reserves are in reality compared to your armies.

It gives you the general idea of how long your industry can sustain the current rate of combat, or if you could afford to increase your fighting/recruitment efforts. This is exactly in "what you're likely to need" category.

Reality of build-up phase is: you queue what you have and more (to be filled as you produce stuff) - that way you are not "wasting" training time. This also indicates the exact amount of equipment that you'll have to produce in order to meet the recruitment quotas. Having something along the line of "army templates" (not unlike HOI3 suggestions) - to give you an indication of how much you will need and where - would help, but that's about all I can think of for that phase.

The main use of fielded/stockpiled equipment ratio is to help with figuring out the moment to shift your production over to something else (provided you're satisfied with the size of your army). Figuring out initial production ratios will still have to be done manually because you can't have your "ideal" templates for a while, and equipment reliability rates (thus losses) can differ wildly.

I don't disagree that it would improve logistic screen, though.

Earlier versions of HOI were far better at logging information. I'm not sure why it has had such a backwards step.
