When the Messalians first appeared CK2, I asked about them in the "Ask A Theologian" thread over on CivFanatics (a forum I believe you frequent, unless someone's stolen your name...). Plotinus' replay was basically that everything CK2 portrays about them, including the (w)incest, is wrong.
They did, however, apparently believe that going to the toilet expelled sin from their bodies...
I'm sorry, but it's mere coincidence that there's also a Vietnamese guy who likes scarborough fair using the exact same username as me.
But seriously though I do actually remember that post you made for Plotinus. His answer wasn't that surprising, anyways, even the basic stuff on them you find online seems to indicate that everything PI put into them, except the fact they existed, was completely made up.
Oh boy... That's going into our internal immersion content ideas list... I'm so not looking forward to that update:unsure:
I had to suppress a giggle.
Yeah, from my own research as well, I came to the conclusion that Paradox associating Messalians with the divine blood mechanic was pure fanservice, zero history.
Excellent use of fanservice, since this is also in a rather hentai context as well.
I think the included it as both fanservice and because it was something they were accused of by other Christian sects. It was definitely slander/bullcrap but still it makes for a good mechanic to flesh the religion out, I'm assuming that the reason most herasys are so bland is because it's not easy to come up with unique mechanics for some of them that can actually translate into proper game mechanics... they or Paradox just gets lazy
I suppose it's both. For a good number of the heresies there is information out there though it takes a little digging, and I wager PI figures it's not worth it to do all that work for a heresy that might not even pop up or make a big impact on the game or something.
This update sounds just like one of my Japanese Animes!
Much worse, dear friend, much worse.
Or, rather, much better, dear friend, much better.
Those incest-lovers in anime got nothing on the Truth-loving, Lie-hating Ahura Mazda worshippers
(except maybe the Monogatari series, because).
