Does VIET replace vanilla events from firing off? Since I've started using VIET, I've noticed that vanilla events are few and far between. Furthermore, I've found that events don't fire off very often (if at all) with my children, making it difficult to develop their traits - but I'm not sure if that's due to VIET or bad luck. Has anyone had similar issues?

Lately I had a lot less education events as well. Althought it hasn't always been the case with the mod.

Their traits still develop, as well as their fighter/diplomat ability.

Yeah, I did notice that their traits (Martial, Intrigue, etc) do increase normally, as do their fighter/diplomat abilities, but attributes events (where they can get Kind/Wroth/etc) don't seem to trigger nearly as often. Anyone have any input?

cybrxkhan has added events in the 00_on_actions.txt; but he hasn't decreased the chance of the vanilla events firing.
So they would fire percentally less often, with somethimes VIET events taking their place. It's the same as with a new DLC: Those SoA events now fire too, making you experience the base game events slightly less often. And VIET adds a lot of events, so the chance to get a vanilla event are smaller in comparison. I don't mind, because they still fire 50% of the time or so, and I got bored of them anyway.
I don't see a reason why especially education events should be firing less often, so I suspect I either don't know the mod well enough, or it's just your personal feeling, or bad luck.

Do you use any of the other modules. I know that EMF made changes to education that sound like they match what your seeing.

From EMF change log

Children will now have a chance to express some 'nature' (vs. 'nurture') personality traits automatically at a young age.
The trait selection is strongly influenced by both the traits of the father and the mother-- not by the guardian.
Mom's personality traits actually matter to your kids' future now, so marry wisely.
Should see fewer annoying vanilla ward events and a more plausible personality development process rather than the usual vanilla breeding program.

VIET Events does not remove or alter any existing vanilla events. It does indirectly affect vanilla traits by reducing the chances they happen, but only because it adds more events into the mix, and, in the case of childhood events, we haven't really added in that many so the effect should be minimal.

If you're using the full HIP suite, do be aware that EMF changes the way childhood education works, so that might be why things are progressing differently.

Alternatively, RNG being RNG.

Thank you, antidualist and cybrxkhan. I didn't realize that EMF affected childhood development - I did not read the changelogs because I am a scrub. The way the changelog describes it, it seems to be a better handling of the childhood process since the children's traits will more likely develop along that of their parents rather than the guardian. I have just found it a bit more difficult to develop my children's traits since fewer events have fired off and feel like my children are more aloof since fewer events fire off.

As for events - it makes sense that vanilla events are less likely to fire off due to the introduction of several VIET events. I figured percentages were a thing, but saw so few vanilla events that I began to wonder.

With EMF, you get approximately half the vanilla childhood personality trait events per child, because EMF will add up to 3 pseudo-random personality traits (extremely high chances of following the traits of the father or mother, or 49x more likely than not if both parents have the same personality trait, ceteris paribus) as part of the "nature" childhood development process. This is meant to make players less able to game their children into having perfect traits through the usual, tiring vanilla process but still leave about half of the personality traits that they'll gain through education up to their guardian's choices.

Yes, I have found that children tend to just get shared traits without any events firing off at all, with a much smaller number of player choices in education. From the perspective of a strategy game, it's a great feature by preventing players from cheating the system. Although I tend to immerse myself and find the lack of involvement less interesting. My little nitpick aside, EMF is pretty great and I like the "nature" aspect to it. I just wish there was a chance to correct bad behavior that might have been inherited from the parent (e.g., my parents, both of whom smoke, chastising me for smoking) through education events.
