Hi, I have a problem with VIET Events where it doesn't seem to be enabled in game, even though it is installed. I've noticed it's been like this for a few updates now. I no longer get the event at the beginning that says VIET is enabled. I've tried reinstalling HIP multiple times. Every time I install using the launcher I agree to install VIET Events, along with everything except Immersion.

The event is hidden now, so it does its work in the background now (a number of people got annoyed with it constantly spamming).

How many years in before I should notice something though? It seems like I've been playing forever without a single event. I feel like after a few decades I should have seen something.

There isn't really a set amount of time before VIET's flavor events could fire. Basically they're generally drawn from a pool of possinle events that could fire, which includes vanillas events. In theory it's possible to go through an entire game without experiencing VIET's events, thoughu unlikely at this point given how many flavor events there are.

Anyhow one thing you can test is triggering the events yourself. Lemme see... Type "event VIETmisc.2008" into the console, it should fire an event that shouldn't effect you much (it's just a flavor event that gives 1 piety, hardly game changing). If it fires it means the events' code exists. Granted it doesn't say if the events are being triggered by the game engine, but at least they do exist.

Anyways never underestimate the RNG. I've seen some things with lottery-level chances happen, so you might just be unlucky in that regard.

Good to hear. And as said, never, never underestimate the weird stuff the RNG can do. To give you a very good example, the Events module has an extremely rare event (several times rarer than vanilla's Gates of Hell event) where you get a meteor strike that completely screws over a small portion of the map. When Ordep and I were testing games with it, Ordep got one game where he got four meteor strikes within half a year in various parts of the map. We calculated the chances of getting that were something like 0.0000000000001% (not exact number but something like that - yes, a lot of zeroes!). Ordep then got three meteor strikes (I think) within half a year in the test game he ran after that. Imagine how astronomically low the chances of it would've been to have an astronomically rare situation happen twice in a row. We determined it couldn't have been a bug because in all the other games I ran or Ordep ran the meteor strikes happened rarely if at all, and if it happened it was once.

I have plenty more anecdotes personal and from other people I could share about the RNG, but I think I made my point - PI's RNG can be really crazy sometimes.
