Very nice developer diary, King. I was once a genealogist, so this really thrills me. Will it be possible to export your character's family data into a genealogy program, like the LDS church's Personal Ancestry File? Just an idea. And probably one with some real technical hurdles.

To echo an earlier post, how will culture-equivalent names like Felipe/Philippe/Philip be affected by the regnal numbering? Just curious, because it's something that Doomdark earlier said would ideally be worked out. In any case, great work and looking forward to seeing the final product.

Pretty cool. Hope there is collapse/expand all buttons. :p

Now... Where can I get a Paradox shirt?

Did i die and end up in heaven?

This has just eliminated one of the major immersion breakers I had in CK1 :O

One question though, in the case of for example the Erics of Sweden, will you go by the numbers they actually took, based on semi-historical former monarchs, or are you going to just cut away that aspect, and let them have the numbers that they "should" have based on the kings we know were real?

Will 'major' families like the Hapsburgs, Wittlesbachs, Capets, and Plantgenets have their actual coat of arms?

And I assume it will be easy to customise randomly generated CoAs through eg save game editing?

In this video Wittelsbach obviously have not the right CoA, but its not that easy, because the only actual relict of the original CoA before they basically switched to the latter known as Bavarian colours is one that is monochrome. I hope it will be possible to assign family CoA somewher ein the game files though and not get randomly generated ones.

Apart fromt aht...awesome video, seeing Otto von Wittelsbach actually married to Agnes von Loon and that breathtaking family tree mae my day.

I'm cautiously pleased with this. A cool idea on paper, but in reality I can't help but feel that this is going to be one of those features that causes super performance drops and slow downs in the late game. Don't let it happen, PI! :(

I'd love to hear some clarification on his reference to EU3. It sounds like they're building this with an eye towards being able to keep your regnal numbers going in EU3, which directly implies that they're paying attention to importing save files over. Or am I just getting my hopes up?

Take a look at the discussions in the HOI3 forums. The latest expansion has introduced multi-threading (!) to Paradox games, and HOI3 is running much faster now than it ever has.
Multi-threading will also be carried over to CK2. So rejoice!

Oh, I haven't heard about this. Can you explain it to me? Thanks.

Glad you reminded me of this, because I was also excited and worried at the same time. Thank god!

thats awesome and pretty and looks brilliant! and finally a video diary that can be understood! thanks!
i hope king does all the future ones too

will the family tree cope with inbreeding and with links crossing over, or will the child be listed twice separately or only for one with only show both parents when its selected as the primary character. As most automatic family trees ive seen run into trouble with cousins or siblings start having kids, which is the only really sure way to get mad and degenerate kings.
