I would like to ask if there is a mod that removes historical events from Victoria? If not, what files should I alter to cleanly get rid of them?

I haven't heard of such a mod. Most people want more historical events with more options.

To achieve the result, I guess you have to delete the country files in Victoria\db\events\, but I'm no modder so take this advice at your own risk. Always make a backup copy of your game files first.

Keep in mind that no historical events will strongly favour the status quo and help the great powers, especially France, UK, Austria and Russia. Germany and Italy will never unify. The US will get much less immigration (because of slavery parties). On the whole the game will be a lot less challenging (unless you play Prussia, the Italians or the USA).

I usually play with weak nations so challenge is not the problem.
As for historical outcomes, one of the reasons why I want to get rid of the events is to take care that world doesn't always look the same. Seeing Germany unify while 90% of it is conquered by France just because of the historical events is something I do not like to see.

There could be dozens of annoying errors when the scenario is loading because the engine won't find files which it is supposed to read, it should be playable though if this would be the case.

1836.eug lists db\events.txt in it's include list. Editing that file would be the cleanest/fastest way.


That would be interesting game and I hope you report how it went. :) It certainly doesn't take events to make an good game, RSG proves that.

I can see one annoyance though, I think AI behaviour is changed through those historical events, so in essence you are stuck with the 1836 AI's (or whatever scenario you edit and start with) unless you want to do more modding.

The AI changes happen in ai_events.txt, so you can just keep that line in your events.txt file.

The lines you probably want to delete are the ones under "# Major Historical Events" and "# Historical Events", and the ones under "# Global Historical Events" except for canals.txt and exploration.txt.
