I think the "illegal" Strategy First version comes from the fact that Strategy First filed for bankruptcy, but under some weird American law could still sell their products without paying royalties to game developers.

At least, that's the case with Uplink: Hacker Elite, an excellent game by an indie developer.

For purposes of keeping all of our villains straight, I think Strategy First is a Canadian company. I can't imagine how they avoided being liquidated, but somehow they did and appear to be going strong.

And they can still go on producing the game? I'd imagine not, but it would still be weird if they can continue to sell the units they still have w/o paying royalties. Bankruptcy law is strange like that, so it's no surprise, but if this is what happened to the strategy first version of Vic, it isn't "illegal".

I've got it. can't decide what to do start playing, or do what cheaters do, " read the manual" If i read the manual i'll know what to expect. But then i won't experience the thrill of enlightenment when i after three hours of gameplaying finaly realise how to build factories...

Just had a quick go on gc with Brazil and for the first time since I've played Vicky, I've actually been able to buy Machine Parts off the Market! Something I wasn't able to do in the past even when I had the highest prestige. Splitting works great - managed to use that to help push people around the country through migration. Although i wasn't subtle with that, it worked great!

Can't wait till the weekend when I can devote serious time to it! And to think I was going to play Shogun again soon...

It's a .EXE file in an encrypted format. So, it can only be run through the Gamers Gate app (presumably so it can check that you indeed have rights to the file).

Yes, you can burn it to CD. I haven't tried it, but I would assume that you could then restore the file to app's download directory and it would again be able to detect and run it.

IIRC it's October. There was a post about it the other day
PI need to finalise the CD version I think.

It looks like you can only launch the installer via the GG downloader program and that it probably does a security check with the servers to make sure you may install it so I imagine you do need an internet connection to install the game- but that's only a guess.

You definitely wont need an internet connection to always play the game

I apologize in advance if this is interpreted as advocating piracy:
I succesfully moved Doomsday from one (internet connected) PC to another (not connected) by just burning the whole game folder to disk, then copying.
The same should work for Victoria: R, I should think.

Just bought, installed, played and figured out I need to read Revolutions' manual...

There's an "Export" button on the in-game menu! Like CK.

Sorry, CK is Crusader Kings. One of the earlier Paradox games.

After you export the game (via the menu button or the final standings popup button) you take the exported game & paste it into the HOID savegame folder. When you load HOID, it appears as a save game, but it tells you that it is a conversion from Victoria.

im trying the the ww1 scenario at the moment, and it has been improved nicely, it is much more historical. For example there are events during the great war that ask countries if they want to join the great war on either the allies or central powers, sofar each country has chosen there historical path, like montengro, romania, Japan, Italy, Portagul. And for a change at the start of the scenario the OE arnt at war, an event comes up a few months later asking them, they then decided to join along with bulgaria later on. Now at the start of 1916 were i am now, most of romania has been conquered be austria, and an event fired to romania, asking them to give in to demands in 'the treaty of bucharest.'
So overall i think ww1 has improved and is much more fun, and hopefully it will have a better ending, and not a messed up european map were poland doesnt exist.. cause i'd like it to be right for the interwar peroid.
I think its a very good ajustment to the original, i like the political change youve made, and that you dont need 6 different resorces to make a trade post, i much prefer the new system. thank you Paradox

I've downloaded Revolutions but I can't install it :/
Installer says "Unable to find an installation of Victoria"
I've got polish version of Victoria from CD-Projekt
First I tried installing Revolutions on Victoria patched to 1.04 with english patch (there is no polish 1.04) but it didn't worked so I reinstalled the game and there is still the same message.

It seems like the Polish version makes a registry entry which the Revolutions installer cant recognize, so I think only Paradox can fix this.

I remeber reading somewhere that the WWI was a novice scenario to ease you into the game. Does it have the same economy/political system as the rest of the game? I'm thinking its almost like a battlescenario of HoI2 but more in depth.
