The population system in Victoria (with the POPs) seems to resemble that of some of my favorite games from the past such as Colonization, Master of Magic and Master of Orion 2. I do have some questions about this though:

1) How do you get more POPs? Is there a population growth for each province, and once this hits a certain level you get a new POP? Can you see this progress (in other words, can you predict when you will get a new POP)?

2) What decides which type the new POP becomes? Is it 100% random?

3) Can you move the POPs between provinces, like sending them as colonists?

If your population increases and you get another POP, It should not be random. I thnk they type of POP you get should be based on what sort of society you have (industrial/agricultural, etc).

On a related note, the screen shots that I have seen with POP info displayed, in my opinion, seem to be far to evenly spread between the different classes that are available.

Some of them have been like:

Aristocrats (1)
Officers (1)
Capitalists (0)
Clergy (2)
Clerks (2)
Craftsmen (3)
Soldiers (1)
Labourers (0)
Farmers (2)
Slaves (0)

Does'nt this seem sorta evenly spread. I mean wouldnt provinces/states in most countries of this era have large percentages of farmers and the lower classes and only a few of the upper ones? Even in todays world, arent there only a few upper class, medium sized middle class and bigger lower class sections of society?

If there are ten little POP icons and each has a value of 1 does this mean that that province's population is made up evenly of 10% of each class?

Please correct me if I am not reading the information shown correctly or if I have got the whole POP thing wrong.

No. Each POP can have from a few hundred people to 100000... :)

There are more information available in the game than just the number of POPs... You can checkl the province population screen and see e.g. that you have 1113 Aristocrats, that they are politically conservative and how militant/counscious they are. You can see if they get the goods they want, how much money they have and how much faith they have in the current government... and more... ;)

I understand that population moves to "better" places and you should try to encourage them to move to your country.

But can someone confirm how/if population increases will occur in countries due to well....err..you know.....natual means. Plus what factor control this - food supply (drink:) ;) )etc?.

Yes.. I really want to know how to get your POPs to breed like crazy. Do you give them enough food ... do you make them rich? Or is it, if they're rich they have less babies.... ??

Hmmm... My first game I'll probably have to try France and figure out why their POP didn't grow as fast as other nations during the 19th century.
