I bought the Paradox value six pack years ago. The first game I installed was Victoria. After frustrating failure after failure I decided the game was above my comprehension and moved on to Europa Universalis. I have been playing Europa Universalis since then (and I even bought the new one). Recently I discovered I could pick up Revolutions for $15. I figured... What the hell... Maybe I'll get a kick out of the Mount Everest learning curve. So I installed the VIP mod and opened up the game and now I have only one thing to say...

Owning this game should be mandatory for all people in the world... Perhaps even those without computers... It is awesome-sauce...

PS - As a side note does the VIP mod work with any graphical mods and the unlimited time mod? I'd love to implement the unlimited time mod but I don't think I'll quite enjoy V:R as much without the VIP mod.

It sure is good! ;) haha! Also, yes those mods should work with VIP.

You are obviously a man of excellent and discriminating taste, distinction and refinement. How could I possibly argue against such infallible logic?

Oh, wait, I do it all the time.

But not today!

As for your questions, I like using Tyrel68's Improved Victoria Interface mod, available where ever RELee's signature is sold. (See my sig, in other words);) I also like modifying the game to load faster, and make the terrain map easier to read in the process, by using the procedures listed in this thread. The link to the already modified colorscales file is broken, but I have a copy of the colorscales.rar you are welcome to download.

I've never used any NTL mod, so I can't help you there. I'm happy with the 100 years provided by the game.

You are absolutely wrong, it is NOT "one of the greatest games ever". It is THE greatest game ever. Especially with the improvements project mod (I haven't played vanilla in ages). It should be used in schools to teach political science.

By the way, question. If you have the no time limit mod, can you actually have events that take place after 1936? If yes, imagine a mod that takes you from 1936 to 2036. Replace the USA tag with some other one to remove the immigration bonus, make all cultures long range (by having fewer types, replacing some of the european cultures), maybe edit the map so Europe is not off-reach to immigrants (is that even possible?), and have no "uncivilized" nations.

All of this is possible, somehow, I believe. Also, the random events will still fire, I believe, as they are randomly triggered by the game engine.

The trouble would be finding someone who could be bothered... It'd be great to expand the games time-frame a bit though. A hundred years isn't a whole lot.

The thing that seems most difficult to me is the map editing (getting Europe to become immigrant friendly). Can anybody direct me to information that might be useful? Knowing nothing about how the actual map is set up, or how the immigration block is programmed, in theory, it would be a simple matter of changing the european provinces from the continent Europe to some other continent. I imagine there must be some sort of tag that could be changed in the map file. Since in such a game it wouldn't really matter in which continent a province was, this would be enough. But then again, the block might be programmed at a deeper level. If I could find a way to deal with this, I might give this a shot.

Trying to sort out the events for the 100 years we have at the moment is hard enough - ask any VIP developer!

Yes this can be done. I can't find the thread right now, but I know V The King did something like this with Switzerland, thus granting it a HUGE immigration and assimilation bonus. Also, the Clio map project aims at getting better borders for a Victorian era scenario, as well as a reasonable map for a more modern day scenario. So there are things in the pipeline.

The trouble is that it's an incredibly hard game to learn. I bought it the other day and despite having played it a few times and read lots of guides; I'm still utterly clueless, helpless and just . . . confused.

I don't know... It is one of the games that won't be easy with you at the start but will reward you once you make at least some progress. I know I feel rewarded right now and I've only managed to make a small bit of progress with Belgium in the grand campaign. And I agree with the original poster. It is a hidden gem!

That's how I felt in mid-december when I bought the game. After puzzling over it for a while (I think slightly more than a week for me) it suddenly made sense.

And yes, I agree with the OP - this is a great game, perhaps the great game.

It's still puzzling, but I had a great game today in the 1881 scenario as the United States. I spent hours puzzling about why I couldn't get enough men to increase my mobilisation pool. Then I realised that letting the AI automate trade is . . . astoundingly silly. After that, I was running up a nice surplus.

I must admit, I did cheat. I nevilled a peace with Spain and France for the Spanish-American war. Considering I'd taken French Guyana, Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Canaries, The Philippines and various other colonies; I thought it was ridiculous that they didn't make peace.

I must say, if I keep up; I'll enjoy this game as much as I do CK.
