I would make all countries civilized. The political aspects of uncivilized nations do not fit well with how underdeveloped ones are nowadays; for example: annexation of their provinces should give badboy. Furthermore, many underdeveloped nations have an industrial base, like Mexico and Brazil, and I doubt many of them don't have at least one factory working inside their borders.

I agree with this. But number of inventions should definitely be lower than the western countries, and less starting cash and less factories..

As for Slaves: I was thinking about for example Saudi-Arabia, Qatar, United Arab Emirates and others. They use foreign labour, that has no rights.. How about renamings slaves to "Forced Labour" or something?

I wouldn't class Mexico and Brazil as developing nations. It would be reserved for the developing nations in Africa mainly, I would've thought. Those with little infrastructure.

But hey, I was just paraphrasing someone else's suggestion.

For number 2, someone suggestions having civilised countries as 'Developed Nations', and uncivilised countries as 'Developing Nations'.

I think first world and third world work best although you could just keep uncivilised nations as the name.

I disagree. I think the terms of 'developed nation' and 'developing nation' are the more common, 'politically correct' names of differentiating between nations in the modern world.

1st and 3rd world implies the intermediate 2nd world.

Perhaps the independant nations could be second world nations and the great powers could be first world nations.

Regarding the United Arab Emirates, they got their papers confiscated and are buildings skyscrapers. Pretty much forced labour.

1. That was what I meant.. Perhaps they could be called something else than "Forced labour" but what I meant to represent is all the people in the world that live without political rights. Maybe some social and ethnic minorities and so on. The Gulf countries are the best example I can come up with right now. But I guess it could also be used for the real slaves, like in Mauritania and other places in Africa as well.

2. I also have another suggestion for the the use of slave pop in modern world. Seeing that they don't have any political rights, and don't make much trouble, how about having them represent aboriginal peoples, natives or perhaps hunter, gatherers, herders in the world. The Slaves would then be used to represent peoples standing outside the state. I think this would at least look good visually in the game.

Yeah I read it before... just couldn't be bothered going back through the thread to find it. I agree with your suggestion, too.

As for slaves: Not really sure what could be done with them. Slavery was/is practically extinct.

You must remember that you can change their stats to make them more productive to research, etc... Not really sure they are worthwhile including, though, as I cannot think of any major uses of/for them.

Well, the thing with being less productive to research would fit really well with sort of "natives" that don't involve themselves in the modern state. But maybe it's better to just leave them out for now. Could perhaps be used for some events or something.

As for the aristocrats, don't see them being very useful in their current form either. What could they be used for? Real aristocrats and royalty in the modern world are too few..

The problem is that "Developing" isn't accurate at all for a lot of countries. Underdeveloped is much more suitable, as a good bunch of them isn't improving economically at all, much to the contrary. In my opinion, when forced to choose between accuracy and political correctness, accuracy comes first.

You could have them as the G8 :)

I would say change the name/graphic for the slave POP and use them for forced labour representing both actual slavery and more of the simple forced workers popular in a number of dictatorships.

I would also suggest changing the name of the government type "democracy" to republic as that is more accurate (I think VIP did that as well).

As for the aristocrats, don't see them being very useful in their current form either. What could they be used for? Real aristocrats and royalty in the modern world are too few..

The aristocrats POP could be used both for classic nobility/royalty, and for the upper classes in general. Many son's and grandson's of industrialists own few if any factories, and they rarely build any factories but they are still rich.
