Victoria II keeps crashing because my army is too large?

I'm playing as China and I control a vast empire. I suffered through 5-6 back-to-back rebellions as a result of my aggressive imperialism and my army was effectively crushed. I began the process of re-militarizing by pausing and building armies using an autoclicker (clever, right?) Eventually, I reached 80,000+ brigades in construction. My game crashed out of the blue and I'm unable to reload any of my saved games after the point I began to rebuild my army. I'm using a mac and I don't have any expansions or mods installed. The only thing I altered was the starting/ending date by editing a .lua file.

Any suggestions on what to do?
