From what I gather, this expansion focusses heavily on expanding the colonial mechanics. In relation to this, have there been improvements to pre-colonial africa (it looks a bit empty)? It'd be nice if you could sign "treaties" with native nations much like European powers did in that era.

What do you mean, we already have this through colonizing.

With Treaties:
*makes treaty*
*goes through loopholes and breaks promises to conquer and exploit land*

Without Treaties:
*conquer and exploit land*

No difference really.

to expand on this, I think we set it on 50 now? There are also wargoals like Humiliate that get ticking warscore from winning battles so you dont even need to hold land to enforce it.

Winning or losing wars makes a lot more sense now in general. You no longer need to occupy from Warsaw to Kamchatka to get Russia to release Ukraine.

Yeah, dominions are a good idea, but perhaps the ideas which activate the scramble should boost colonial point generation.

That's an issue that can be balanced post-release though, IMO so long as it's to do with colonial point generation and not some hardcoded AI thing that likes creating dominions.

Colonial points are based on how big your navy is. This also ties into the fact that better navies need better naval bases. I've seen the AI do some intelligent things when they are close to their cap such as actively building more ships, creating dominions to free up some points if there's a nearby region they want, or withdraw like a little girly man. I can say without reservation that the AI isn't dumb about colonies.

Although not the focus of the expansion: is the counter-intuitive "I want social reforms, so I'm gonna be a jerk to my population until their militancy is high enough" strategy now less needed?

Also: are Communist and Fascist countries more likely to happen?

In my experience revolutions happen less frequently but are larger when they do. They are scary now and you might not win against them.

Can't you change somehow the way dominions work so that non-primary or accepted culture majority colonies become uncivilised dominions instead of civilised dominions like Canada or Australia.
It just seems wrong to me that what would normally take you years of colonising proper can just be done here in one click. And that going from a savage area in the middle of Africa without even a state one year later you get a civilised nation...

Also, will we mac users get to see this expansion ?
If yes, as I supposed it'd be handled by VP like AHD, have you any idea on when we can expect a release date ?

Will HoD come with a list of expansion notes (equivalent of patch notes) so we won't get any unpleasant surprises when things don't behave as they used to? I also happen to think bug fixes are a great part of expansions even though they usually don't get much attention.

Pretty much this. I played a game with France once, and made a 30k brigade of only Dragoons to sit in my capital (as I always do in V2) to hunt down rebels. When the Communists finally rose up, I was WOEFULLY unprepared. My Dragoons got absolutely slaughtered. I had to pull my Alsace-Lorraine defense force just to stop them from getting my capital.

My advice to all of you is don't underestimate rebels anymore. They are no longer the pansy 3k units you are used to.

The new crisis system is, IMO, the best feature any expansion has ever gotten. Will expand on this later.

Ticking warscore fits perfectly in the era, good to know that it'll be affecting not just conquered land but also battle warscore.

Otherwise, has been changed land combat finally?

We do them for patches, but for an expansion it would be like 20 pages of text. The manual and dev diaries highlight the most important changes.

I dont have any information to share about a mac version right now. I'll let you guys know when I do. As for dominions, I think the current system works, but I'll be listening to players after release.

Crises is my favorite I think, but I also love looking at my enemies ships burning in naval combat :)

Land combat has been changed a lot. you can read about it in this beta AAR: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum...t-of-Darkness-Beta-AAR-War.-War-never-changes
Is the release time on amazon correct?
As in: If I preordered on amazon, will I be able to download HoD at midnight PST?

I dont know actually. generally releases are in the morning GMT so I would not expect it at midnight.

(diff post for diff question)

I noticed there's a minimum supply payment for naval. Is this because of what was noted above - that naval size is important for colonial whatevers? Are there similar limits to the army or civil things? Are there maximums? do they change based on things (things being: political party, year, technological advancement)
