I was rather surprised by the announcement of Crusader Kings 3. That series not having the "oldest" game , and up til now I suspected Paradox worked in a sort of cycle between their main Grand Strategy titles, which would have made Victoria 3 next in line.
I love Paradox games to bits, having played their strategy games from way back in the pre-historic Target Games-era. Of all their games, Victoria 2 is my favorite. It therefore pains me to see so little love given to the series. With almost 10 years of experience and technology a new entry could be amazing.
I know Crusader Kings is more popular, and makes more money, and I understand it's financially sensible to dedicate time and resources to the games that make more money. Especially now that the company has gone public. It still doesn't make the situation any nicer.
Remember, the promise was before 2020, and while yeah I understand it was said jokingly, and priorities change, and so on, it makes me legitimately sad that such a great series goes ignored. Of course I've heard the most cited reason being "The one guy who understood the code left", if I'll allow myself to paraphrase, and while it's certainly a good story and a funny reasons, it's not a legitimate reason. We all go "Haha, yeah that sucks lol" and not "OK... then hire a new guy?"
So, are we every going to see Victoria 3? If not, why do you think? If yes, what are your hopes?
